An Unspeakable Mission (Olympia Brown Mysteries) Page 21

by Judith Campbell

My condition will not be evident until the fall, and even then I think I have a plan that might conceal it longer. I will say to anyone who asks, assuming she agrees, that I plan to stay in Cambridge with my Aunt Louisa for the Christmas holidays. I will not add, until my child is born.

After that, we shall both, mother and child, come home to Brookfield. And how shall I explain this to the townsfolk? Surely I will have an answer by then, but now I must tend to my garden. I find it helpful to keep myself busy just now.
