Jenna squeezed Kris's hand and smirked. “God, I love it when you talk nerdy to me.”
“Yes, I know,” Kris said with a mischievous grin and a wink. “So, Dr. Harper, will you help me brush off my calculator and improve my arithmetic skills?”
Jenna giggled. “Please tell me that wasn’t your attempt at a proposal?”
“No. I need some tutoring first.” Kris batted her eyelashes.
Jenna ran her hand up Kris's thigh. “Well, in that case. I’m your gal. I know all the right buttons to push and a few shortcuts to get you to your goal faster. I’m sure we can work out a payment plan that will benefit us both.” She leaned in for a more passionate kiss. “I’ll give you more ‘multiples’ than you can handle.”
Jenna’s phone interrupted their kiss. They both looked down at the text, “tick-tock, tick-tock, doc.”

On the way to the grocery store, Jenna noticed Kris rubbing her temples. “What’s wrong, hun?”
Kris closed her eyes. “I have a headache. Do you mind if I stay in the car while you run in?”
Jenna placed her hand on top of Kris's. “Yes, I mind. I’m taking you home.”
“No, I’ll be fine. There’s no need to drive all the way across town to take me home,” Kris protested. She realized she had lost the battle when Jenna made a U-turn. She closed her eyes and settled for defeat.
When they arrived home, Jenna led Kris straight upstairs. She closed all the blinds in their bedroom and pulled the curtains closed over top of them blocking out the harsh sunlight.
Kris sat down on the edge of the bed and slipped her shoes off. She hoped this wouldn’t turn into one of her full-blown migraines.
Jenna returned from the bathroom and extended her hand out for Kris to take the pills from her. Kris shook her head. “It’s not a migraine yet. I hate taking those pills unless I have to. They make me groggy and I don’t want to ruin our plans tonight.” Jenna put her hands on her hips and gave Kris a stern look. Kris knew that look all too well.
“These will help prevent you from developing a migraine. Neither one of us will enjoy this evening if you’re in pain.” She offered the pills to Kris again followed by a glass of water, which Kris swallowed down. “Good. Now, lie down and close your eyes. I’ll take care of everything and be back as fast as I can. I hope they will have my laptop fixed this time. If not, they better be prepared for a fight.” She bent down and kissed Kris's forehead. “Your job is to stay here and relax, doctor’s orders.” Jenna made her way to the door and glanced back at Kris before shutting it. It was too dark to see if Kris had her eyes open or not. “I love you,” she whispered before closing the door behind her.
If Jenna hadn’t been in such a rush to get everything taken care of so she could get back to Kris, she might have noticed the taxi making its way down the street towards her house.
Kim waved from the taxi window, but Jenna didn’t see her as she sped past her towards town. Kim stepped out onto the curb in front of the house. After the driver retrieved her luggage from the trunk, she paid him using the cash she had taken from Kris's nightstand. She wheeled her suitcase inside and left it at the bottom of the stairs. The house was quiet, but Kris hadn’t been in the car with Jenna.
Kim had made up a family emergency excuse to the airline and caught an earlier flight home. She had felt smothered by her parents and couldn’t take another day of it. She didn’t tell Jenna she was coming home early because she didn’t want Kris to convince Jenna into making her stick it out another day. She had a suspicion Kris was the reason behind the trip in the first place.
Kim checked the kitchen and the rest of the downstairs before peaking out the window to check the pool. Thinking that Kris had taken Jax for a walk, she grabbed her suitcase and carried it upstairs to her room. She threw the suitcase on top of her bed. She didn’t get a lot of sleep while she was gone, and she wanted to take a nap. After sleeping for an hour, she rolled over causing a pillow to fall sideways knocking over the picture frame Jenna had given her. It was a picture of the two of them dressed alike for their first day of school. Kim reached down to pick it up.
“Jenna?” she heard coming from across the hall.
Kim froze. The sound of Kris's voice caught her off guard. She didn’t feel like dealing with Kris right now.
“Did they fix your laptop this time?” Kris asked.
Kim picked up the frame and placed it back on her nightstand.
“Come here. I’ve missed you,” Kris called out.
Kim sighed and made her way towards Kris's room. She cracked open the door. It was dark and it took a while for her eyes to adjust. “Kris? I, uh, I just got back.”
Kris sat up in bed. “That was quick.”
It wasn’t quick enough, Kim thought as images of her parents flashed in her head.
Kris shielded her eyes from the piercing light sneaking through the cracked door. “Shut the door and get over here. I’m still a little groggy, but my headache is gone.”
Kim had no idea what Kris was talking about, but she shut the door and took cautious steps towards Kris. She had snuck into the room before when Jenna and Kris were out, but she was never in the dark while doing it. She was unfamiliar with the layout. She tripped on the edge of the throw rug beside the bed and fell forward landing with her arms outstretched facedown on the bed beside Kris.
Kris scooted towards her. “Looks like I’m not the only one loopy. Are you okay?”
Kim flipped over and prepared to sit back up when she felt Kris's hand slide underneath her shirt. “What are you doing?” she muttered.
Kris tugged at Kim’s bra before throwing her leg over top and straddling her. “What am I doing? You know those pills make me frisky after my headache goes away.” Kris bent down and kissed Kim’s neck. “I think that’s why you wanted me to take them.” Kris lowered herself more and kissed the top of Kim’s chest. “I think you wanted to have sex again before Kim gets back. When she comes back, I’m going to miss doing you here, and the kitchen, and the office, and living room, and the dining room table.”
Kim had waited for an opportunity to interrupt Kris and explain to her she had mistaken her for Jenna, but now that she knew for sure how Kris felt about her, she didn’t care what happened. She was no stranger to having a woman on top of her or beneath her, but those were her experimental years. She didn’t consider herself gay or even bisexual. She flirted with anyone and everyone after she broke free from Paul and his sexual abuse. Besides, Kris deserved punishment for trying to push her away from Jenna.
Kim closed her eyes. It had been a long time since someone touched her like this. She felt Kris grinding against her and she placed her hands on Kris's waist pulling her harder into her. She opened her eyes to see Kris, but she could only make out the silhouette of Kris who was now taking off her shirt. Then, she felt Kris pushing her shirt and bra up beneath her neck followed by Kris's bare breasts tickling her tummy. She moaned as Kris's mouth found her nipples. She wrapped her legs around Kris and began rubbing her pelvis against Kris's thigh.
Kris sat back up pulling her up with her. “Too many clothes,” Kris breathed heavy in her ear. Kim lifted her arms and allowed Kris to undress her. She stretched her legs out and Kris sat on her lap straddling her again. “Much better,” Kris purred in her ear.
Kim wrapped her arms around her and pulled her close. She felt Kris's heart pound hard against her chest. She felt Kris's supple lips against hers before Kris shoved her eager tongue past her lips. She was surprised by how forceful Kris was in the bedroom, but that got her off even more. She pushed any thoughts she had of how she was going to explain this to Jenna out of her mind.
Kris caressed Kim’s back. She ran her hands up and down the smooth skin while she kissed Kim. Her tongue found Kim’s just as her fingers ran over the spot where Jenna’s tattoo was; only she felt a raised surface instead. Kris tried to trace it with her fingertips during their kiss. There was no tattoo. It was a birthmark. “What t
he hell?”
Kris jumped up and switched on the lights. She tried to cover herself while she reached for her shirt on the floor. She spun around and slid her shirt over her head self-consciously tugging it back down over her shoulders. She rubbed her eyes and turned back around hoping she was wrong.
Kim was sitting on the bed with her shirt on, albeit backwards, holding her bra in her hand. “What?” she asked pulling at the collar of her shirt realizing she had it backwards.
Kris ran her fingers through her hair trying to push it back into place. “What the hell just happened, Kim? Why are you in my bedroom? First of all, you aren’t supposed to be back until tomorrow morning.”
Kim stood up. “Surprise, I’m home early.”
“Regardless of that, why are you in my bedroom?”
Kim shrugged her shoulders and moved towards Kris. “Because you called me in here, and then you seduced me.”
“I didn’t. I thought Jenna had returned. I called Jenna in here and….” Kris backed away as Kim continued to advance towards her.
“But you heard my voice. Jenna and I sound different. I think you knew exactly what you were doing and then you chickened out on me.”
Kris shook her head and clutched her stomach. She felt like she was going to be sick. “I had a headache, and I took my medication. It makes my brain foggy and it was dark so I couldn’t see you, and I definitely wasn’t expecting you to be back yet.”
Kim smiled. “Yeah, you mentioned that already. You also said it makes you horny, but I must confess I was a bit shocked how dominant you are in bed. I’m surprised Jenna allows….” A car door shutting immediately followed by Jax barking outside interrupted Kim.
Kris put her hand to her mouth. “Jenna is back. Get out of here. Get out now.”
“What? Are you afraid I will tell my sister how her lesbian lover seduced me while she was out running errands like a little housewife?”
Kris opened the door and shoved Kim into the hallway. “Get out now.”
She heard Kim’s door shut a few seconds before the front door opened. She heard Jax run up the stairs and stop in front of Kim’s door. He began barking loudly, and Kris sank back down to the bed.
Jenna tried to quiet Jax to spare Kris. She bent down and took his head into her hands kissing the bridge of his nose. “What is it? You have to be quiet while Mommy is sleeping.” He looked up at her and whimpered.
Kim’s door opened and she stepped out into the hallway, this time with her shirt turned around the right way. She had also thrown her hair into a loose ponytail. “Surprise,” she said wrapping her arms around Jenna.
“Why didn’t you tell me you were coming home early? Wait, why did you come back early?”
Kim rolled her eyes and sighed. “You know Mom and Dad. Do you really need to ask?”
Jenna laughed, “Yes, but you’re their favorite. They ignore me.”
“Trust me, you have nothing to be jealous of. I’d prefer to trade places with you any day,” Kim said with a sly grin looking towards Kris's closed door.
Jenna put her finger to her lips, “Shh. We have to keep it down. Kris has a headache, and she’s trying to sleep.”
They both turned their heads when Kris opened the door and stepped into the hallway. Jenna put her arm around Kris's waist. “Look honey, Kim came back early.”
Kris let her eyes look up from the floor towards Kim. She swallowed hard when she found Kim was staring back at her. She could see the evil behind her eyes. It had always been there, but it was more clear to her now. Kris forced a smile for Jenna’s sake. “A day early? What a surprise.”
Kim reached over and hugged Kris. She nuzzled her nose against Kris's ear and let her hands slide down Kris's back as she released her. “What can I say? I much prefer the company here.” She winked at Kris before turning back to face Jenna. “Oh, I hope I didn’t ruin any plans for the two of you. Go ahead with whatever you had planned. Just pretend I’m not here.”
Kris hooked her arm around Jenna’s and pulled her in close. “Bless your little heart. We could never do that.” Kris had heard the saying before and had thought it was a sweet term of endearment the first time she heard it. Later on, someone told her it could have a negative connotation depending on who was saying it and what the circumstance was.
Jenna gave Kris a peculiar look. “I haven’t heard you say that one before.”
Kris shrugged her shoulders. “Hey, did you get your laptop back? You weren’t gone that long.”
Jenna shook her head. “No, but I didn’t feel like arguing with them. I wanted to get back as soon as I could to check on you.”
“That’s so sweet,” Kim said interrupting their conversation.
Kris ran her fingers over her forehead. “Why don’t the two of you go out to dinner and catch up? I think my headache just returned.”
Jenna kissed the spot on Kris's forehead that Kris had been rubbing. “I’m sorry, honey. The medicine didn’t work this time?”
Kim choked back a laugh, and Kris shot her a glance. “Maybe you should take some more medicine,” Kim offered.
“Don’t worry about me. Jax will keep me company,” Kris said turning back towards the door.
Jenna grabbed her arm. “I hope you feel better soon.” She leaned in to kiss Kris on the lips.
Kris turned her head forcing Jenna to kiss her cheek instead. She felt disgusted by what had happened with Kim. She wanted to brush her teeth and take a hot shower. She wanted to scrub any remnants of Kim off of her.
Chapter Twelve
Kris had lunch that Saturday with Allie, Danni, Erin, and Liz. Erin and Liz had invited everyone to their house for lunch, but of course Jenna and Kim had other plans. Kris had to tell somebody what had happened. She was still horrified. It had been a few days since the incident with Kim. Kris's suspicions were true. Kim wasn’t as innocent as she made Jenna believe. She hadn’t told Jenna about what happened yet. She didn’t know how Jenna would react or what kind of spin Kim would put on it.
Kris walked up the street and stopped in front of her old house that she had lived in last year when she first met Jenna. Someone else rented it now. Kris stared at the front porch where she had sprained her ankle and Jenna took care of her. She had fond memories of Jenna there. Kim had been in their lives so long, it was hard to remember a time without her being around.
Kris walked up the cobblestone sidewalk that she had helped Erin and Liz build when they first moved in. She knocked on the door and tried to mask the turmoil she was feeling. Liz answered the door and gave her a hug. “Hi, Kris. Come on in. We miss having you next door. We have to get together more often.”
Kris managed to smile. “I miss you guys too.” She followed Liz into the dining room where Allie and Danni were already sitting at the table nursing a beer.
Allie looked up. “Are you okay, sweetie?” Allie could always tell when something was wrong with Kris.
Kris took a seat at the table across from Allie and took a sip from the water bottle Erin gave her. “I’m fine, just tired. It is so good to see all the girls together again. Jenna wishes she could’ve been here too, but Kim needed help with something.” Allie detected the sarcasm in Kris's statement.
After lunch, everyone gathered in the backyard underneath the shade of a large maple tree to get relief from the afternoon sun. Kris tried to enjoy the company of her friends as best as she could, but her mind was still on what had happened with Kim. Finally, Allie couldn’t ignore the situation any longer. “What’s wrong Kris? Don’t say everything is fine. We all know better.”
Kris looked around her circle of friends. She knew she could trust them, but she wasn’t sure it would help any by telling them. However, she felt like she was going to explode if she didn’t get it out. Kris picked at the label on her water bottle. She felt ashamed even though it wasn’t her fault. “I cheated on Jenna,” she mumbled.
“What?” everyone shouted almost in unison. “With who?” Allie demanded. “Was it that s
lut real estate agent again? I told you to stay away from her.”
“What real estate agent? What happened?” Liz asked.
Allie waved her hand in the air, “Some woman tried to corner Kris up and seduce her, but that was all. Nothing happened, right?” Allie asked Kris with a worried expression.
Kris began to sob. The pressure of everyone staring at her was too much. “No it wasn’t her,” she whimpered like a kid confessing a crime before receiving their punishment. “It was Kim.”
Allie stood up and threw her hands in the air. “What the hell, Kris? How could you? Dammit Kris.”
Danni pulled Allie’s hand and tried to make her sit down, but Allie yanked free from her grasp. She kneeled down in front of Kris and put her hands on Kris's knees, who still hadn’t answered her. “Kris, look at me. What happened?”
Kris took a deep breath and wiped her eyes. “A few days ago, the day we all got together for lunch, I had a headache afterwards. Jenna took me back home to relax while she finished the errands. I took my migraine medicine, which always makes me out of it for a while. I fell asleep, but I heard a noise outside the bedroom door.” She shook her head like she was trying to clear her mind. “Well, I thought Jenna had come back, but it was Kim.”
Everyone was in shock and didn’t know what to say, but Allie couldn’t keep quiet. “I know they’re identical, but can’t you tell them apart after living with Kim for six months?”
Kris shot Allie a cold blank stare. “Do you think I wanted this? Do you think I want to sleep with Kim?” She felt anger rising up within her.
“No, Kris. I’m sorry. You took it the wrong way.”
Kris felt her muscles relax a little as she became less defensive. “Yes, I can tell them apart, but it was dark in the room. Jenna closed the blinds and curtains before she left, and she shut the door. Anyway, I had no reason to believe it wasn’t Jenna. I thought Kim was visiting her parents still. Plus, I was drowsy from the medicine.”
