  “Nothing that you have to worry about.” That was all he would say. I grimaced. He was always so cool, never giving anyone any information. He patted my hand, got up and grabbed his dry cleaning.

  “I can’t just brush it off, Sean, because I like you too and …”

  “You like me?”

  “But, I would like to know what I’m getting into. I have to know or …” I shook my head. There I was ready to give him the what he desperately sought – if he’d just be truthful – I was insane to think he would break first. “I don’t know what I was thinking.” I sighed. “Sean – I.”

  “Wait, are you trying to dump me?” He chuckled. My outburst seemed to tickle him.

  ‘No. You moron. I going to tell you where McClure is if you’d just listen one damn minute’ I yelled internally.

  He took a small step to my side of the table, bent down and kissed my cheek, but I pulled away, causing him to kiss nothing but air. His expression changed to one of stone, showing no sorrow or rage. “Well, I guess there’s really nothing to end, considering we never really started.”

  No one’s words had ever made me feel so horrible, but I held it together until the moment he turned his back, causing me to sob more severely than I had since my parent’s death. It shattered my heart into just as many pieces. Unable to run after him and unable to handle him walking out of my life, I was left where it had all begun, biting my hand to keep from screaming out my devastated lover’s agony.
