“Good.”
“Will Ryder be ok?”
“He’ll be fine; he can take care of himself just like we all can.”
“You’re right. I just worry.”
“About Ryder?”
“About you all. Working here, I see the cases, most are easy surveillance cases but I have a feeling they are only the ones you let me see. The dangerous ones you keep to yourselves, you do the paperwork yourselves, don’t you?”
“Most of them have no paperwork baby.”
“Oh.” I didn’t ask why they didn’t. He wouldn’t answer me and I wasn’t even sure I wanted to know.
“I have some calls to make. Do you want to wait for me? I can take you home and come back if not.”
“What would you rather I do?”
“Stay here. I won’t be long and then we can go for lunch somewhere.”
“That sounds good.”
“Great. Stay in here. Do not touch the intercom. I’ll know if you do and your punishment won’t be pretty.”
I nearly said that he hadn’t noticed last time, but I didn’t want to poke the bear. “I promise I won’t touch it.” I said solemnly.
“That’s my girl.” He kissed the side of my head and made his way back to his office closing the door behind him. I pressed the intercom button turning the light red. I settled in to my chair and prepared for a long wait, and then I remembered I had a paperback in my drawer. Pulling it out, I lifted my feet to rest on the edge of my desk and got comfortable. Reading was my favourite thing, no matter what was going on in my life I could always lose myself in a good book. Opening the first page, I started to read.
Chapter Nine
David
I opened my door finally finished with my phone calls only to halt in surprise at the sight of Chloe. She looked adorable reading her book with her feet on the desk and her bottom lip caught between her teeth. There was a frown on her face and I wanted to smooth it out with my thumb.
“Good book?” I asked quietly chuckling as she jumped in fright. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you.”
“Next time could you knock please?” She said primly.
“Sure, I’ll knock on my own door before I open it.” I said lightly still getting the death glare. “Are you ready to go?”
“Nearly, I just need to finish this page.”
“The page or the chapter?”
“The chapter,”
“Can’t you finish it in the car?”
“I guess but you distract me.”
A smug smile appeared on my lips and she glared like she wished she hadn’t spoken.
“You have such a big head.”
“Only with you sweetness,” I teased.
There was her blush again. I wasn’t being rude, she did give me a big head. Her reaction to me when I was close, when I kissed her, or even when I was just talking to her were fucking amazing. I felt like a god, I knew I would do whatever it took to have her look at me like that for the rest of my life. I never wanted to see fear in her eyes and I’d do everything in my power to make sure she didn’t feel that way. I waited for her to put the book in her handbag then held my hand out. She placed her hand in mine, and I led her out of the offices. I didn’t bother turning the lights off because Ryder and Caleb would be here somewhere still. I’d done all I could for now. My contact would get in touch when he had something. There was no point hanging around here and besides I had better things to do like taking Chloe to lunch and then taking her to my house. I’ve dreamed many times of her being in my bed so it was about time I made it a reality. She also needed to get used to being there because it was going to become our home unless she hated it, that is. If she decided that she wanted to move we could do that, anything to keep her happy. We walked hand in hand out of the front door and it locked behind us. Anyone wanting to get in would need a code and key unless they smashed the windows and considering they were bulletproof, it wouldn’t be an easy task.
“Where are we going?” Chloe asked.
“I’m taking you to lunch then we’re going to my house.”
“How come you’ve never invited me over before?”
“To my house?”
She nodded.
“I haven’t wanted you there because I knew I wouldn’t want you to leave.”
“Oh.” She squeezed my hand, “I’m glad I get to see it now.”
“Me too,”
When we got to the car, I unlocked it and helped her in, leaning over to buckle her up my hand brushed against her breast and her reaction was a quick intake of breath. I grinned. The effect I had on her was seriously fucking hot. I could see her nipples poking through the material of her shirt. I walked round to my side and sat down putting the key in the ignition, but I didn’t start it, instead I turned to face her and gripped her hand gently. “I’m sorry I got angry with you earlier it’s just that I worry about my team being in danger, I don’t want to have you added to my worries more than you already are. That’s why I didn’t want you to know anything.”
“You worry about your team of bad asses?”
I raised my eyes brows. “Team of bad asses?”
She blushed at my amusement. “Well, yeah.”
“Oh, baby you’re just too cute.”
“I’m not cute.”
“I beg to differ.”
“No woman likes being called cute.”
“How about adorable?”
“That’s even worse. Now I sound like a puppy.”
“Chloe, there is no way you could be mistaken for a puppy.”
“I should hope not considering I don’t have four legs or fur.”
“No, you have a sexy body, a beautiful smile and eyes that can turn me on with just a look.” There was the blush again. “How hungry are you?”
“Not very, why?”
“Let’s go back to mine then, I’ll take you out for tea instead.”
She looked confused for a second then she giggled. “Ok” she said shyly, her eyes not quite meeting mine.
“Good.” I started the car having let go of her hand to do it. I wasn’t prepared for her fingers to go to my thigh. She moved them up and down caressing me until she was nearly brushing my cock. It made me instantly hard. “There is no way I will be able to go slow if you keep doing that.” I warned her.
“I don’t want you to go slow David; I just want you to be you.”
Fuck. “It’s like you’re waving a red flag for a bull, baby.”
“You’d never hurt me, I know that. I don’t want you to hold back, thinking you might scare me if you don’t.”
Could she be any more perfect for me? I didn’t think so. “I’m struggling to remember that you were a virgin before last night.”
“I’m not sore and you didn’t hurt me.”
“You promise?”
“I promise.”
I pulled into my drive, thanking god I hadn’t lost control of the car before now. I undid my belt and climbed out, she’d already opened her door by the time I got there. She held her hand out for me and I gripped it tightly and almost dragged her to my front door. Unlocking it, deactivating the alarm and locking the door behind us felt like it took an eternity, but finally we were alone. I scooped her up in my arms heading for the stairs. She squeaked at the suddenness of the move but she didn’t speak, neither did I. I wasn’t sure I could, I was so aroused I could have come on the spot. I kicked my bedroom door open and set her down on my bed. She looked nervous sat there biting her bottom lip but her eyes were on me. I started to undo my shirt, one button at a time and she watched with eyes full of heat. I shrugged off my shirt, my hands going to my jeans, but I only undid the button. There was no way I could be naked because one touch from her and it would be all over. I’d never been so turned on in my life.
“Your turn,” I ground out.
She jumped up and shred her clothing but she left her knickers on looking unsure. I went to her and dragged them down her legs. “Lie down on the bed, baby.” I ordered.r />
She did as I asked and finally I took my jeans off, my cock sprang out and her eyes widened. I knew I was larger than average, but right this minute I felt bigger. I watched her expressions flicker as I climbed over her slowly, my fingers stroked down her stomach to her pussy and I tested her readiness pleased to find her wet. Gripping both her hands and linking them with mine, I lined my body up with hers and entered her in one thrust. Her body arched into mine, her eyes closed in pleasure. I waited a beat to let her get accustomed to me, and then I moved. A groan tore from my throat. She was so tight, so wet and warm that I didn’t think I would be able to last long. I licked my thumb and reached between us rubbing her clit, she tightened even more. She moaned softly and I grit my teeth. Pleasure was coursing through my body making me move faster, thrust harder, my thumb still rubbing her. Her legs wrapped around me tightly before she screamed. Her climax set off mine, and I gripped her hips hard moving at a maddening pace until I groaned her name loudly emptying myself into her. I was exhausted, my body felt weightless. I stopped myself from squashing her by rolling on to my back taking her with me. As her face fell into my neck, I felt wetness.
“Baby,” I whispered stunned. “Did I hurt you?”
She shook her head.
“Look at me.” I ordered. Her face lifted. “Why are you crying?”
“I love you.” She whispered.
She couldn’t have stunned me any more if she’d tried. “I love you too.” I whispered.
I felt her breath leave her in a little puff of air. “Good.”
“Not that I’m complaining but why are you telling me this now?”
“Because what we just did was perfect and I’ve decided I’d be crazy to fight you when I want everything that you do.”
“So that means you’re happy to move at my pace?”
“I think so.”
“We’ll find out.” Pulling out of her gently, as no matter what she said she must be sore, I got up and walked over to my drawers, pulling out a box from the top one.
She gasped as I walked back to her and opened it up. Inside was a ring, a pink rose surrounded by tiny diamonds. “What are you…” she trailed off when I took the ring out of the box.
“Chloe, will you marry me? Will you be my wife and let me make you happy for the rest of our lives?”
“Oh gosh David,” She started crying.
“Is that a yes?”
“Yes, it’s a yes.” She cried holding her left hand out.
I slid the ring onto her finger kissing her knuckles.
“It’s beautiful. I love it.”
“I knew you would.”
“When did you buy it?”
“I had it made for you on the third week of you working for me.”
She gasped. “We’d never even had a proper conversation. I’d been too nervous to speak to you.”
“I know but I knew even then that you’d become mine.”
“Wow, it’s just so perfect.”
“Just like you.”
She shook her head. “I’m not perfect.”
“You are to me.”
“You say all the right things.”
“That’s because I’m perfect for you.” I grinned.
“You are. How about we celebrate?”
“How about we do it in the shower?”
She blushed.
“You’re so pretty when you blush, I wonder if you’ll ever stop.”
“I probably won’t. Sometimes you say the most shocking things.”
“You’ll get used to them.” I grinned. “Come on, the sooner we shower the sooner we can go out for tea. I’ve definitely worked up an appetite.” Her tummy rumbled. “It seems you have too.” I laughed.
Chapter Ten
Chloe
Telling David I loved him had been one of the most nerve-racking things I’ve ever done. I was glad I did it though. Oh, gosh just looking at the beautiful ring had me nearly hyperventilating. I agreed to go at his pace but I figured it would mean me moving into his house. I never imagined I’d have his ring on my finger already. I had a feeling his wedding ring would be on my finger very soon as well.
“Are you ready?” David asked me making me jump.
I quickly looked in the mirror. My hair was still damp, but I’d left it down because David liked it that way and to be honest I would do anything to please him. “Yes, I’m ready.”
“You were in a world of your own. Are you ok?”
“I’m more than ok.”
“I want you to be happy.”
“I am, believe me.” I smiled.
“Good, now come on. I’m starving.”
I slipped my hand into his. “Where are we going?”
“It’s a surprise.”
“Another one?”
“You liked the first one didn’t you?” He grinned and brushed his fingers over my ring.
“Of course I did, I love it.”
“Well, you’ll like this one too.”
“Ok.” If I kept badgering him, he wouldn’t give me any details, so I didn’t bother.
He helped me into his car, buckled me in, and walked to his side. Sliding in the car, he started it and turned to me with a huge grin. “I’m so fucking lucky to have you.”
I smiled. “It goes both ways.”
My heart was melting. The simplest words yet he’d said them with such venom I had no doubt he thought it was true. He was quiet on the drive; he only spoke once we’d parked on a side street. “We’re here.”
“Where are we?” I asked confused. I could see no restaurant.
He didn’t answer, only grinned at me. After helping me out of the car, he took my hand and led me to a small stairwell and a door. I didn’t recognise it at all. My curiosity was nearly killing me. I opened my mouth to ask him more, but he shushed me before I could. When he opened the door, I saw red wallpaper and two closed doors, he led me to the one in the front of us and pushed it open.
“Surprise baby,” He whispered as we entered.
“Oh, David,” I exclaimed. The room was beautiful. Pink roses in vases were on each table. I could see champagne in ice buckets on one side of the room but the biggest wow was Lea, Ryder and Caleb standing there all grinning. I turned to David to ask him how on earth he’d managed to plan this so fast when someone else caught my eye. Tears sprang to my eyes, and I swallowed hard. “Dad, Mum, but how…” I trailed off. I almost ran to them so excited to see them after so long. I hugged them both tightly.
“David called us and told us what was happening.” My mum explained.
I felt David come up beside me. “I told them we were getting married.”
“But you’ve been on the road, how did you get here so fast?”
“David sent us his jet after calling us two days ago.”
I turned to David with wide eyes. “You only asked me two hours ago.” I said in shock.
“I know but I knew I was going to ask you and I wanted your parents here, I knew you would want that.”
“Oh gosh,” I managed before I burst into tears.
“Now, now, none of that sweetheart, let’s have a look at your ring.” My mum ordered.
I held out my hand.
“It’s beautiful, he definitely knows you.” She said with satisfaction.
I dabbed my eyes with the tissue my dad had pressed into my hand. “Yeah, he does.” I agreed.
David squeezed my shoulders gently before he moved away. He came back a second later with a glass of champagne. “To us,” He said and everyone raised a glass.
My tummy rumbled loudly, and he grinned. “I think you need to eat baby.”
Lea grabbed my hand and pulled me away from David before studying my ring. “Holy crap Chloe, it’s amazing.”
“I know.”
“I’m so jealous.” She admitted.
“I’m sure Caleb will ask you one day.” I whispered. The look in his eyes told me it would be soon.
“I think he will too. Are you happy?”<
br />
“Oh yes, I’m so happy I could burst.”
“You don’t feel rushed?”
“A little.” I admitted.
“Don’t let him boss you around too much, he’ll get used to it.”
“I think he already has.” I grinned. I didn’t mind, I liked that he bossed me around, he only did what he thought was best for me. It was nice to be looked after.
“Shall we eat, baby? You’re tummy is so loud it sounds like an earthquake.” David said into my ear making me shiver.
“Yes, I’m starting to feel a little faint.” I joked.
David chuckled. “I don’t think it’s lack of food making you feel that way.”
“There you go again letting yourself get a big head.” I poked his chest playfully. He enclosed my hand in his bringing it to his mouth he kissed my open palm. The feel of his lips brushing against my skin made my body tighten with need. One touch and I was all his. He knew it too but there was no smugness just pleasure radiating from him.
“Come on you two, I’m starving and they made me wait until you got here to eat.” This came from Ryder and for once, my eyes didn’t wander over him and his sex god body, they stayed firmly on David and his beautiful face. No one held a candle to him anyway but tonight with the carefree, happy attitude beaming from him the whole world could melt away and I wouldn’t notice. So, so quickly he has become my world. There should be a part of me that feared the pace of our relationship but there wasn’t. All I felt right now was anticipation and love. I wanted to strip him naked and take my fill of him until we were both exhausted but I really did need food and I couldn’t leave my mum and dad after not seeing them for so long just so I could make love to my fiancé. I followed David to the table and waited while he pulled my chair out like the gentleman he was. He’d always done this, and I hadn’t paid much attention to it before but it was another way he showed me he cared. He sat beside me and took my hand in his. Once everyone was seated, he kissed my cheek and stood up.
“Thank you all for coming, I know it’s a bit of a shock.”
Ryder laughed loudly.
“What’s so funny?” David asked him.
“It’s not a shock to any of us. We all knew it would happen,”
“I didn’t.” I disagreed.
