Kai shivered, the only indication that Brock's tone affected him. That, and the tent that had erected in his boxer briefs. He set the file down on the mattress and rotated so that he sat on the side of the bed directly in front of Brock with his legs nestled between Brock's. Kai placed a palm on each of Brock's thighs and looked up.
Whenever Kai looked up at him like that, with wide, dark brown eyes that seemed to innocently beg him for more, Brock was the one who felt like a God.
Kai pushed away gently but not enough to make Brock actually move back. "I'm busy, lover, maybe come back when you aren't so excitable?"
"Pull me out," Brock said, barely moving his lips. "Kiss my cock."
Kai leaned forward and nuzzled his crotch. He exhaled, warming up the cotton of Brock's boxers. Kai mouthed his clothed erection and then pulled back, most likely noticing the wet spot where his pre-cum had saturated the cloth. "She definitely has you frazzled," Kai said appreciatively, palming his own penis over his briefs. "But do you really think she is our one? You said she's a human. Can she handle all your lion and all my wolf?"
Brock thrust forward. His hips had a mind of their own as they sought after more of that warm feeling. "She can handle us," he muttered.
He didn't need Kai to remind him of how unusual their situation was and how unlikely it was that they had found a third. Shifters almost always stayed with their own kind or mated with humans. With Kai being a wolf shifter and Brock a lion, that was already unusual enough on its own. Then there was the fact that they were both alphas. Alphas mated to each other was almost unheard of. Usually, alphas couldn't even exist in the same dwelling together. Indeed, there were many times when Brock didn't know if he wanted to bend Kai over the nearest surface and bury his cock in his ass or if he wanted to punch whatever smug, adorable face he was making.
But their love was unquestionable to the two of them and they had been together for long enough to know they were as mated as two alphas could be.
They weren't complete, however. At first, neither of them had wanted to mention the feeling, for fear of hurting the other. Eventually, they talked it over and discovered that what the two of them had been feeling on their own was their desire for a third.
Brock knew without a doubt that Francesca was that third. Once Kai met her, he would know, too. But for now, Brock needed his cock sucked before he got the worst case of blue balls since Kai had gone on that week-long business trip.
"Stop teasing me, wolf," Brock rumbled. He was moments away from ripping his own underwear off and Kai knew it. They were constantly playing with the power dynamics in their relationship. Sometimes Kai even got him to beg. Not this time. "I'm in no mood for games."
"Well, lucky for you, I actually am busy, but now you've got me horny, too. No way I can concentrate on the case like this," Kai said as if that was the only reason he pulled the front of Brock's boxers down. His fingernails scratched through Brock's trim hair as he pulled down, letting his large cock spring free. Kai cupped his balls and kissed the tip, causing Brock to hiss.
"Put me in your mouth."
When Kai finally parted his lips, and slid his mouth all the way down Brock's dick, Brock knew he was lucky. Not only was Kai one of the only people he'd met who could swallow a cock as large as his but if he'd made him wait one more second, Brock would have started begging.
He grabbed a handful of Kai's hair, holding him on his cock. Kai licked the underside of his penis and Brock moaned, shooting a little pre-cum down his throat. Brock began thrusting as Kai bobbed. Like always, they found their rhythm and Brock slid down his throat repeatedly.
"Yes, Kai, like that. Good little wolf," Brock said, earning him a light scraping against Kai's teeth. "Fuck, you know how I like that," he hissed, staring up at the ceiling. Twenty seconds in and he was embarrassingly close to coming. He closed his eyes and Francesca immediately popped up in his mind. He saw not just her, but her on her knees beside Kai as they both took turns sucking his dick. Both of them looking up at him with two sets of dark eyes that were so similar in the way that they worshipped him.
"Are you thinking of her?" Kai asked, not with jealousy, but curiosity in his tone.
"Yes," Brock admitted. "Her and you, both sucking my cock."
Desire flared in Kai's eyes. "Maybe it will be you and her, on your knees in front of me?" he asked.
Made no difference to Brock. He didn't care if it was Kai and him diving into what would be the sweetest pussy he'd ever tasted. He looked down at Kai and swore he was thinking the same thing.
"I'll meet her," he said, trying to sound begrudging but his voice was colored with too much desire.
"Yes, you will," Brock replied like an asshole. He smiled to lessen the sting. He held himself at the base and wiped the tip of his leaking penis over Kai's lips. His tongue peeked out, sampling him and Kai's eyelids fluttered as his lips opened to let him in. Once again, Brock was buried in his second favorite place in the world. He closed his eyes again, enjoying the warm heat of Kai's mouth as well as his expert cock-sucking skills. When the head of his dick bottomed out down Kai's throat he finally lost it. He groaned through his orgasm, kneading Kai's head much like a cat would, a habit that Kai liked to make fun of him for at every turn. "Fuck," Brock grunted when he was able to speak. He adjusted his boxers. "Well," he said cheerily. "Thanks for that." He spotted Kai's outraged face before turning from him.
Kai moved as fast as a cat and was on his feet, in front of Brock. He pushed his huge frame to the bed. "I don't think so, buddy. Mind the paperwork," he said, shoving his briefs down as he hopped on top of Brock's chest. Holding Brock's head down he guided his cock into Brock's mouth and proceeded to fuck his face.
Brock moaned, low in his throat. His hands rubbed up and down Kai's thighs and back to his butt.
"We'll meet her, but if I don't like her, then we're done talking about it," he said with his own growl. "You're still taking me out tonight, though. We can meet her tomorrow."
Brock relaxed his throat muscles so Kai could go further down. It didn't take long for Kai's growls to turn into whimpers as he shot his load down into Brock's belly.
Kai pulled out and helped Brock up. "Did you hear me?"
Brock nodded. He was absolutely fine with Kai's terms because he knew when Kai saw Francesca, he would be just as sure as he was that she was their mate.
Chapter Five
Frannie
Frannie took her shoes off just outside her front door and held them in her hand. She opened the door in slow motion. Shutting it at the same speed, she made sure to turn the handle so that the latch made no noise as she slowly slid it back in place. There were no sounds behind her from the rest of the house so she could only hope that Luke and Daryl had gone to work at the auto shop and that Finn was asleep with Serena Ann. She tiptoed out of the entryway, through the living room, and into the kitchen where she headed past the kitchen island straight for the coffee maker on the counter. The sun spilled in from the window and sliding glass door, lighting up the room naturally.
"Felix called," Luke said from behind her so loudly she jumped.
Luckily, she was turned away from him so he couldn't see her face as she worried about what Felix might have said. "Oh really?"
"He said that while he didn't want to invade your privacy that there might be something you need to discuss with me?"
Frannie schooled her face into an expression of carefree happiness. She turned to Luke with a smile. "No idea. I just came back from visiting Pippen."
Luke didn't miss a beat. "Then why did you sneak back in the house?"
"So dramatic. I didn't sneak. You forget, I am a woman and naturally more graceful and quiet than you."
"Is that why you shut the door like you were going to rob me? And why you are still holding your shoes?"
Frannie dropped her shoes down on the hardwood floor. They landed loudly and clattered against her foot. She held her head high and her chin jutted out just a little. Even with her I-
mean-business posture, she only came up to Luke's chest. "The only one of us being robbed is me, of my time. Do you have a point to all of these questions?"
Luke evaluated her, most likely looking for signs of whether her not talking was of a dangerous nature or of a personal one. Until recently, his pack members had a habit of shouldering burdens on their own. Eventually, he shrugged. "Not really. I had to ask though, in case Felix brought it up again. I can't have any tension between him and me, not now that Finn is pregnant."
"Yeah, yeah, don't want to get on the bad side of my big bad—what?" Frannie did a double take, waiting for Luke to say he was just joking, but all he gave her was a disgustingly cheesy grin. "You're serious?" She dropped her purse and hugged him, reaching her arms as much as possible around him. "I'm going to be an aunt!" she squealed into his neck. "For like the..." she pulled back adding them up, "eighth time!" When she saw that Finn, her older brother, had joined them, she wasn't embarrassed to pull him in a hug as well while tears gathered in her eyes.
"I take it you told her?" Finn said over her head.
Frannie stepped back to the kitchen island and propped her elbow up on the granite top, leaning her weight against it. Luke took the spot she'd been in, reaching a carefree arm around his mate and true love. The two of them looked back at her and Frannie found that her eyes had grown so filled with tears that when she blinked through them, they spilled down her cheeks. She swallowed the sob that threatened to escape.
"Sheesh, Fran, it's just another baby. We have them coming out of our ears around here," Finn said.
"That isn't where they come from," Luke murmured.
She couldn't help it, they looked so happy and absolutely content around each other. Frannie still remembered Finn as he had been for most of her life, the shy, awkward guy always sitting alone on the couch at social gatherings or standing against the wall. He'd been painfully awkward and Frannie had spent more than one family reunion and school function simply making sure no one tried to approach him.
Then he had met Luke, in this very kitchen to be exact, and the two of them had discovered how perfectly they completed each other.
Frannie was over the moon that Finn had found love. He'd done more than that though. Luke's shifter genes had altered Finn, changed his body so that he could also sustain life. Now Finn had it all, the adoring husband and the child. Felix, her older brother, came along a few months later and had done the same thing with another pack member, Sorell.
She wasn't jealous of their love, because there was no way to be jealous of something that was so beautiful and pure. But, it wasn't easy being the odd lovebird out. Thank God for Farley, her third brother and eternal Mom's basement dweller. If it weren't for him, she would be the only unloved Feller sibling. There had been a time in Frannie's life when she thought she'd found her true love. Frannie's stomach spasmed in pain from the memory. She bit the insides of her cheeks so hard she could taste blood.
"Must be that time of the month," she lied, turning from them both. She tried to discreetly wipe her nose and blink the tears away. She got a glass of water as a cover and when she turned back to them she had the brightest, fakest smile plastered on her face. "I'll make us something special."
Luke and Finn frowned at the same time.
"I'll order us something special," she amended.
"Perfect!" Finn said, not even looking at her anymore. He leaned into Luke's body as Luke kissed him.
"Ugh, get a room," Frannie said halfheartedly. "Actually, I'll get mine. I'll let you know when the food gets here."
Frannie closed her door behind her. At least now she wasn't crazy horny like she'd been the second Brock had touched her wrist—probably before that, if she was being honest.
If it hadn't been clear before, it was painfully clear now, she didn't have time for a guy who got her hormones all up in a twist like Brock did, without even trying. Imagine if he had been trying. Frannie bit her lip. Maybe she would be better off not imagining.
She sat at her desk and within a couple of clicks, she pulled up the order form to her favorite delivery service that would go to local restaurants and deliver customers' to-go orders for them. She ordered a variety, knowing that dinner for Luke and Finn could easily turn into dinner for more. Felix was pack master for the pack at The Den, but he and Sorell lived across the street and despite having a culinary genius for a best friend, Sorell was not the greatest cook and Felix had never had a skill for cooking.
She winced at the bill. She wasn't poor by any means, but with the news of Finn having another child, her financial worries came back into the spotlight. Book sales were steady, but what if they became not enough? What if she didn't make enough to contribute and Finn and Luke moved away, taking Daryl and Serena Ann with them? Then she'd be alone. Again.
With that thought, Frannie logged into her online dating profile. She looked down the short list of her matches, noting a newer one from a few days ago.
Her eyes fell on one toward the bottom, Victor. She'd actually exchanged a few messages outside of the dating app with him. All she could remember about him was that he owned a local bookstore and loved wine. He had seemed nice if not a tad pretentious. But what did she expect from a local small business owner? Small business was hard, he should be proud.
On a sigh, she opened the thread of their messages. They'd gotten through the usual, what are you here for's, what are you looking for's, and then he'd asked if she would like to go to a wine tasting with him and she had declined. Now, she couldn't remember why.
She typed out a message and pushed send before she could second-guess herself. Like a loser, she stared at the screen and fretted.
Frannie: Hey Victor. This is Francesca, I don't know if you remember me but I was wondering if that offer for wine is still good?
She set the phone down and opened her latest work in progress, staring at the blinking cursor until it blurred. Her phone barked.
Victor: Of course I remember you. You are so funny. This is kismet. There is a wine tasting tonight at Vine and Dine, you in?
Frannie looked at her pile of dirty laundry, her empty closet just behind the hamper. Then, for some weird reason she thought of Brock, his chiseled jaw and steel-gray eyes. She started typing out saying that she couldn't make it after all but then, she thought of Finn and how blissfully happy he was. She thought of Felix, Sorell, Pippen, and Conner—all men in her life who had found their soul mates. She deleted her first reply.
Frannie: Kismet indeed. I'll be there.
Chapter Six
Frannie
Later that evening, Frannie parked her car directly under a light in the spot nearest the exit to the stairs in the parking garage. Vine and Dine, one of the many casual wine bars that had popped up in the city, was located one floor up. If her Google-fu was what it once was, then the bar should be trendy without being pompous with plenty of locally sourced options. It was also described in one review as, "Swanky with a hint of old Hollywood." That little tidbit had thrown her in an absolute frenzy as there was nothing in her wardrobe, clean or dirty, that could be described as swanky. She wasn't even sure she could describe what "old Hollywood" was to a stranger, but Frannie was nothing if not resourceful and with the help of the internet she managed to mix and match her closet into an outfit that might not make her look like the perma-yoga pant wearer she really was.
Getting out of the house without a thousand questions, that was a different thing altogether. Daryl had gone as far as to sit in the back seat of her car and refuse to move until she told him exactly where she was going. After she finally did he imposed a curfew like she was some rebellious teen-age daughter. Then, Luke had checked her tire pressure, headlights, and her cell phone to make sure the battery was full. Finally, Finn had slipped his pepper spray in her purse.
She'd felt loved for sure, but their actions had also highlighted how odd it was that Frannie was actually going out alone. The last time she'd seriously dated was... Frannie shook those memori
es out of her head before they could lodge themselves in her brain. Not tonight, horrible memories.
Tonight was about wine and Victor and hopefully discovering that she liked Victor as much as she already knew she liked wine. Frannie locked her car and walked toward the elevators. The light overhead flickered and she reached in her purse for the pepper spray. Her fingers tightened around it and then she made herself loosen the death grip she had on the plastic cylinder. She was safe. She was fine.
Safe and fine. Safe and fine.
There had been a time when she hadn't been safe and she had been anything but fine.
This is not that time.
Still, it was hard to feel as safe as she had before she'd been kidnapped, and moments like this one—alone in an unfamiliar place—were especially hard on her nerves. She took a deep breath and ignored the elevator, choosing the stairs instead. She wasn't claustrophobic, but didn't enjoy the idea of being trapped in an enclosed space. Not again.
Luckily, Vine and Dine was on the very next level. She didn't have long to huff before stepping out into the entrance area. A cool burst of wind blew up from behind her, wreaking havoc on her hair and brushing against her upper thigh, highlighting just how short her skirt was compared to what she normally wore. She paused just before going in to pull her skirt back down, wipe the sweat off her forehead, and reapply her lip gloss.
She tugged at the bottom of her black jean skirt. Artfully torn, with red and blue plaid accents, she paired it with a black spaghetti-strapped tank top and a black cardigan. She hoped it said funky and cute but worried right now that it said sweaty and scared.
You can do this, Francesca. You already know how to drink, you've been charming once or twice in your life, just do both at once. C'mon girl. Your brother is about to have another child. I know it isn't fair. That's one of those things you grow up counting on not happening but it has and you need to deal with it and shine.
