The hawk met Kalla's eyes and twitched a brief smile. “Thank you for helping Vander, Lady Kalla. He is resting better now. I can sense that.”
“I'm glad I was able to get him to let go. After we finish in Argoth I am taking him to visit Araun and Kartoff. He can at least get that closure.”
Kasai grimaced, remembering the journey to the Hounds.
“Don't worry. You don't have to make that trip if you'd rather not,” Kalla said. “Xibalba is safe enough for me now.”
“I would not be doing my job if I let him go alone, however much I may dislike journeying.”
“Traveling to Xibalba won't quite be like the trip to visit the Hounds. It won't just be the mind and essence that travel, but the body as well.”
“Oh, good. I can hardly wait,” the hawk replied in a dry tone.
The refueling done, they took to the sky again. Kalla and Aleister spent the time making plans for the trip across the ocean. Vander slept the entire time, waking only when they finally landed at the Zinlin paddocks.
