After going to the doctor’s office so that Robyn could take a blood test to verify her suspicions, she and Noah went to a local outlet mall so that he could pick up the last few things he needed for his tour.

The trip was a real eye-opener for Robyn. Up until then, they had been fortunate enough that Noah had not been recognized while they were out in public together. But now, as they took a break from shopping and stopped to get ice cream, Robyn was forced to see the reality of his fame for what it was.

While they were sitting on a bench enjoying their treats, Noah and Robyn were startled by a loud scream.

Noah looked around and instantly spotted a group of women standing a few feet away from them, all of them staring at him. Sighing, he whispered in Robyn’s ear, “just let me take a few minutes to sign some autographs. Hopefully they’ll leave us alone after that.”

Robyn nodded and watched Noah as he told the young women, who looked about college age, to come on over. She felt her heart warm as she studied him. Noah was very light-hearted with the women and signed some autographs while one of them took his picture.

Robyn braced herself when one of the women looked over at her and asked, “are you Noah’s girlfriend?” She simply looked at Noah, pleading with him to answer the question for her.

  “Yes,” Noah confirmed. “She is.”

Robyn let out a sigh of relief as the same girl that asked the question looked at Noah and said, “She’s very pretty.”

The women took a few more pictures, then the three of them thanked Noah and Robyn for their time and left. Once were gone, Noah put his arm around Robyn’s shoulder and asked, “you feeling okay?”

Robyn nodded. “Yeah, that was definitely an experience, but it's not like I didn't expect it sooner or later.”

“Yes, but are you okay with it?” Noah asked again.

Again, Robyn nodded. “I was kind of nervous at first, but you impressed me when you told them we were together,” she told him. “I fully expected you to say I was just a friend.”

Noah frowned. “Why would I do that?”

“I don't know... doesn't your management tell you to keep those kinds of things quiet?” Robyn inquired.

“Nah, that used to be a controversial topic, but one of my requirements for my new team was that they treat me like a human being when it comes to personal matters.”

“That's good,” Robyn said, feeling relieved that she wouldn't be his dirty little secret. “Anyway, what do you say we finish up this shopping and head home?”

“Sounds good to me,” Noah said as they got up off the bench and he took her hand in his own.

It took another hour or so for them to find everything that he needed, and he tried to convince Robyn to go into a few stores and pick out some things for herself, but she wouldn’t have anything to do with it. According to her, it would be pointless to buy new clothing if she was with child. Thus, he decided to come back on Monday or Tuesday to pick up a gift for her before he left.

They stopped off at their local Redbox and rented a few movies on the way home, then they ordered a pizza as soon as they got to Noah’s place. They got comfortable on the couch together and didn’t move for the rest of the night.

Around one in the morning, Noah carried Robyn up to bed and snuggled up beside her as he thought about how much he was going to miss her. He had a feeling he was going to be spending a lot of time on the phone with her while he was gone. Settling in, he reached across her to turn off the light and gently took her in his arms, letting himself drift off to sleep.

The following morning, Robyn stirred in bed and couldn’t figure out why she was still wearing her clothes from the day before. The last thing she remembered was watching a movie with Noah. She finally came to the conclusion that she must have fallen asleep and gently worked her way out of his arms, tiptoeing into the the bathroom.

Robyn wanted to treat Noah by making him breakfast in bed. She knew he was a sound sleeper and she figured she had plenty of time to make him a killer meal. It would also take her mind off the glaring elephant in the room, which was that she still hadn't gotten her period or heard back from her doctor.

Robyn changed out of her clothes from the day before and quietly went back into Noah’s room, fishing through his dresser and removing a pair of boxers and a t-shirt to wear. She then made her way back into the hall and quietly headed downstairs to the kitchen. Her favorite thing for breakfast was waffles, but she had to settle for pancakes instead since Noah didn’t have a waffle iron.

Robyn found all the ingredients to make blueberry pancakes and a fresh fruit salad. Forty-five minutes later, she put everything on a tray and took it upstairs. She couldn’t find anything else in the house, so she had to settle for just the pancakes and fruit. She put the tray down on the floor and quietly opened up Noah’s bedroom door, laughing to herself when she saw that he hadn’t moved at all since she had left him.

Robyn carried the tray into the room and placed it on the floor on her side of the bed. She sat down on top of the covers and perched herself up on her elbow as she took in how handsome he looked as he slept. Finally, she lowered her lips down onto his and lightly kissed him. At first it didn’t seem like it was going to work, but after applying a little more pressure Noah slowly put his arms around her and began responding to the gesture.

Robyn pulled away from him and whispered, “good morning” as he slowly opened his eyes and looked up at her.

“Good morning yourself,” Noah said, his voice still deep and husky from sleeping. “Any word from your doctor yet?”

Robyn shook her head. “Not yet,” she told him. “But I do have a little surprise for you.”

“Oh?” Noah put a hand behind Robyn’s head and drew her in closer to him so that he could kiss her again. He let his other hand drift down to her breast, and he teased her nipple until it was erect.

Letting out an airy sigh, Robyn pulled away from him and said, “that's not what I had in mind. We can save that part for later. As for right now, how does breakfast in bed sound?”

Noah smiled as he watched her reached for the tray. “You’re perfect, you know that?” he said, moving so that she had room to set it down.

“Oh, I think you’ll find out my faults soon enough,” Robyn said as she sat beside him with her legs crossed.

Noah put two pancakes on a plate and watched as Robyn filled a bowl with fruit. “Are you seriously not going to have any of these delicious looking pancakes with me?” he asked her, poking into one with his fork. He then waved a small portion of it in front of her face as if to entice her.

“Nah, I'm feeling a bit nauseous,” Robyn replied. “I think I'll just stick to the fruit.”

Noah nodded in understanding, bringing the fork up to his mouth. “Where did you learn to make these?” he asked between bites. “They're incredible.”

“My mom used to make them for us every Saturday when I was growing up,” Robyn explained. “It took me a while to get the recipe just right, but the key is to be generous with the milk.”

“Well you've certainly been holding out on me,” Noah joked, taking another bite. “You must be some master chef on the side, huh?”

“Nah, what you see is what you get,” Robyn responded. “Aside from a few other family recipes, I'm pretty much useless in front of a stove.”

Noah laughed and cut some more pancake up, bringing the fork up to Robyn’s mouth. “Come on,” he urged her. “You have to share these with me.”

Robyn held her breath at first, fearing that she’d throw up, but she quickly found that she wasn't quite as nauseous as she had thought. Between the two of them, she and Noah managed to finish off the five pancakes with ease. Noah then placed the tray back on the floor and set the bowl of fruit between them on the bed, slowly dragging a strawberry through a puddle of whipped cream and bringing it up to Robyn’s mouth.

Robyn bit into the berry as seductively as she could, laughing to hersel
f as Noah placed the bowl back on the floor and took her in his arms. Not wasting any time, he removed her clothing and made slow and passionate love to her for the better part of the morning.

By noon, Noah and Robyn decided to get dressed and spend the afternoon horseback riding. An hour later, the two of them were on their way to Sutter’s ranch. Noah had decided to keep his horses there during the tour, and he made a note-to-self to ask Sutter if Robyn could have access to them while he was away.

They pulled into the driveway and found Sutter walking out of one of the barns.

“Hey brother,” Noah called out to him. “How you doin’?”

“Not too bad,” Sutter responded as he approached, slapping Noah on the back and flashing Robyn a friendly smile. “I'm guessing you two wanna go for a ride today?”

Robyn and Noah nodded at the same time.

“Yeah, I wanted to take some time to come see them before I head out of the country,” Noah explained. He turned to Robyn and added, “you remember where the horses are, don't you? Could you maybe go get them ready? I want to talk to Sutter real quick.”

“Sure,” Robyn said, giving him a quick peck on the cheek. “Take your time.”

“Thanks,” Noah called after her as she walked away.

Sutter watched her go and cleared his throat. “Looks like things are getting pretty serious,” he observed.

Noah nodded. “Yeah, you could say that. I'm going to miss her like crazy while I’m on tour, but at least she's going to come visit for a few weeks.”

“Well I’m glad to see that you’re finally settling down,” Sutter responded, still feeling guilty for the way he had treated his friend the last time he was out at the ranch.

“Yeah, I don't want to jinx anything, but Robyn’s special,” Noah told him. He then went on to tell Sutter that he was going to keep the horses there for a few more months, and he asked if it would be alright if Robyn had access to them.

Sutter assured Noah that that would be fine, and he promised to introduce Robyn to the rest of the staff at the ranch so that they wouldn’t question who she was if she decided to drop by. Noah thanked his friend, then he went to join Robyn in the stables.

Robyn already had one horse prepared, but Noah could see that she was having trouble getting the saddle onto the larger of the two creatures. “Do you need a hand there?” he asked as he made his presence known.

Robyn nodded, grateful for the help. “He’s just too damn tall for me,” she said as she gave up her fight.

Ten minutes later, they were both seated on their horses and on their way. This time they slowly rode side-by-side and talked about a variety of things. One thing that had been on Noah’s mind for the past while, aside from his potential jump into fatherhood, was what the guy Robyn had almost married was like. It was a subject he wasn't sure how to breach with her, so finally he decided to just come right out with it.

“So... hey,” Noah spoke up, clearing his throat. “You told me once that you were almost married. Mind if I ask what he was like?”

Robyn hesitated, taking a moment to digest the inquiry. “He was my first real boyfriend,” she explained as her horse continue trotting along the trail beside Noah’s. “We met while we were in college and we dated for approximately three years before we broke up. The first two were pretty good. I was happy, and I thought he was the person I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. It wasn't until we both graduated and started our careers that things started to go down hill. He just… he couldn’t stand the fact that there were other things in my life that I considered high-priority.”

Robyn was quiet for a moment before continuing.

“He asked me several times to make a choice between him and my career, and I realized then that I was the only person growing in the relationship. I was no longer happy, so when the day came that he asked me to choose again…I did.”

“Wow,” Noah said after a moment. “Sounds like a tough decision to make.”

“Oh, it was, but in a strange way… it was also like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders,” Robyn told him. Then she smiled. “Besides, I think I'm pretty happy with the way my life has turned out.”

Noah returned her smile with one of his own and hesitated for a moment, taking a second to gather his thoughts before asking the one question that had really been eating away at him. “If you don’t mind me asking, what are your thoughts on marriage now?” he probed, knowing it was something he wanted for himself sooner rather than later. His only hope was that she felt the same.

“Oh, it's definitely something I’m interested in,” Robyn responded. “It's different now that I finally have my career established.”

Robyn didn’t mention that she could picture Noah being her husband and having children with him. She wasn’t sure their relationship was ready for that kind of discussion yet, especially when she had yet to hear back from her doctor about the results of her blood work.

“But when I do get married, it’ll be till death do us part,” Robyn felt the need to add, thinking of her own parents untimely split. “I don’t want to become another statistic of divorce.”

“Well we both share that desire,” Noah responded, feeling relieved that she seemed to share his views.

They dropped the subject then, both pleased about what they had learned from the conversation. Noah desperately wanted to talk more about it, but he knew he needed to give it more time. They continued riding and making small talk for several hours, then they decided to head back and grab something to eat.

A half hour later, they were back in Noah’s truck and on their way back to his place. Noah had mentioned to Robyn that he felt like making her his famous chili for dinner, and he was just about to reveal the secret ingredient when her phone vibrated.

Sure enough, it was her doctor.

  Chapter 18

Robyn reluctantly went into work the next morning. She didn’t want the weekend to end, but she knew she had to come to terms with two realities: the fact that she was pregnant, and the fact that her time with Noah was nearly up.

Regardless, Robyn was determined to be strong – if not for herself, then for her unborn child. After work that day, she let herself into Noah’s place and found him in his office. He was on the phone with someone, but he signaled for her to come in and she came over to rest against his desk.

A few minutes later, Noah wrapped up the call and hung up the phone. Robyn was just about to ask him who it was when he got up from his chair and came around to her side of the desk, pinning her against it. He had been hot for her ever since he found out that she was carrying his child, but having her standing in front of him wearing her sexy business attire pushed him over the edge. He put his mouth up to her ear and whispered, “I want you – right here, right now.”

Robyn shivered as Noah pushed up her tight pencil skirt and yanked down her panties, tossing them aside. While he was doing that, she went to work undoing his pants and pushed them down along with his briefs. Then she sat back down on the edge of the desk and took his throbbing member in her hand, giving it a few good strokes as he tensed.

The touch was not enough this time. Instead Noah brought Robyn’s bottom forward just a little to allow himself better access to her opening. Without wasting any time, he quickly thrust deep within her and remained still for several seconds before beginning to fill her more deeply. Meanwhile, Robyn wrapped her legs around him and held on for the ride. His need for a release was obviously urgent, because she had never known him to be quite this rough before.

Noah continued to hold Robyn tight, and with one final thrust, he groaned her name and reached his climax. “I've needed that all day,” he whispered as he struggled to catch his breath, spreading light butterfly kisses across her neck.

Robyn smiled and stroked his hair. “What makes today so different than any other day?” she asked.

“Oh, I think you know,” Noah responded, bringing a hand down to rest on her
abdomen. “Plus, I won't be seeing you for a while. I wanted to take advantage of the moment.”

Robyn watched as Noah put himself back together, then she stood up and did the same.

“Are you going to spend the night?” Noah asked her.

“Of course,” Robyn told him, frowning a little. “Why wouldn't I?”

Noah shrugged. “I don't know. I just didn't want to make the assumption without asking you first.”

“Well I am,” Robyn said. “Which reminds me… do you need any help packing? Because I'm kind of a master at it.”

“Nah, I think I have everything under control,” Noah responded, coming over to give her a peck on the cheek. “But ask me again tomorrow night.”

“Well what did you want to do tonight, then?” Robyn asked.

“How about dinner and a movie?” Noah suggested.
