  Missed Chance

  Coming Next.

The Armour of God Adventure Thriller Series:

  The Tyndale Code

The Tyndale Code is non-stop adventure thriller intertwined with mystery, intrigue, and a conspiracy that stretches back to the time of King Henry VIII.

  The Codex

Plunged together into an icy world of death and darkness, Zack and Sydney make a discovery that will rock the biblical and archaeological community. But will they make it out alive to share their discovery?

  Stand Alone Novels:

  The Devil’s Game

One part thriller, one part suspense, The Devil’s Game is the story of a young pastor whose work takes an unexpected turn when a man shows up claiming to be the devil himself.

  Author’s Note

Another Chance is a work of fiction. Anyone familiar with the city of Gainesville, Florida (Go Gators!) will recognize many of the street names and some of the landmarks. They will also recognize the literary liberties I’ve taken with the surrounding geography. Please do not use this novel as a road map, you will get lost! The town of Franklin is invented and the fictional Franklin River is not the imaginary line that separated the two cities. Certain long-standing institutions, agencies, and public offices are mentioned, but they are used fictitiously.

One of the challenges with writing a story is coming up with names for the secondary and supporting characters. Each one needs to be unique (of course) and it needs to fit the character.

For Another Chance I wanted to do something different. I didn’t want to use random names. I wanted it to be more personal than that. I wanted involve the readers.

Although the characters themselves are figments of my imagination and have no real life counterparts and any resemblance to real people is purely coincidental, twenty-two of my readers graciously allowed me to use their names. You may recognize many of them from the story . . .

  Cast of Supporting Characters

  (In order of appearance)

  Kevin Scott — Robber

Pam Gonsalves — Superior Court Judge

  Teresa Behrmann — Psychologist

Sandy Scott — Grace Memorial Hospital ER Nurse

Dave Sayre — Grace Memorial Hospital Security Guard

JR Bray — Grace Memorial Hospital Doctor

  Edward Ballard — Gainesville Detective

Sylvia Brown — Grace Memorial Hospital Nurse

Tina Shifflett — Grace Memorial Hospital Medical Receptionist

Deborah Thompson — Grace Memorial Hospital Pharmacist

Belinda Crowe — Franklin Clinic Office Manager

LeeAnna Coffey — The Coffey Shop Co-Owner

Travis Coffey — The Coffey Shop Co-Owner

Catherine McPhie — Gainesville Police Officer

Judy Preston — Franklin Police Dispatcher

Caleb Meeks — Gainesville Police Officer

Gail Watson — Gainesville Police Officer

Hadley Jackson Rye — Trevor Foster’s friend

Tracie Rye — Hadley Jackson Rye’s mother

Christene Gamble — Spanky’s Grill Waitress

Let me state, for the record, that nothing in this story is intended to reflect reality. The characters physical description, age, occupation, beliefs, and actions (good guy/gal or bad guy/gal), etc. are purely fictional and not based on the reader for which they are named.

A great big thank you supporting cast of Another Chance for allowing me to have some fun naming my characters.

  Acknowledgements

First and foremost, I am so thankful for you, dear reader. I know there are a hundred and one other books you could have bought, and I sincerely hope you enjoyed reading Penelope’s story as much as I enjoyed writing it.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank my behind-the-scenes heroes, who worked tirelessly to make sure Another Chance was the best that it could be.

To my brainstorming/plotting partner, inconsistency finder, proofreader, cheerleader, and dear friend, Dina, thank you for supporting me at every stage of the process. I owe you a debt of gratitude. Without your help and endless encouragement, this book never would have reached fruition. P.S. Penelope thanks you for assisting with the wedding planning parts.

To the talented, Crystal McLaren, thank you for helping me tell Penelope’s story. I still miss our monthly coffee sessions.

To veteran police investigator Lee Lofland, former NYPD Detective Sergeant Joseph Giacalone, and D. P. Lyle, M. D. Your combined experience and knowledge of police procedure, criminal investigation, and forensic science helped me add a layer of authenticity and believability, and I thank you. Any process or procedures I didn’t get right fall on my shoulders.

To my extraordinary developmental editor, Linda Hull, who has worked with me on all my books, thank you for ripping the story apart and helping me put the pieces back together, for adding your unique sense of humor, for your last minute additions, and for providing the polish to my sometimes rough prose.

To my amazing “Team Chance” beta readers, Laurie Cook, Barbara Carter, JR Bray, Jackie Whipple, Sylvia Brown, Pam Gonsalves, Becky Kossa, Mary Ann Schreck, Susan Wachtel, Bev Smith, Judy Harrell Umphress, Tina Shifflett, Tanya Abbott Cloer, Jill Jones, and Shelley Makohon, thank you for your invaluable contributions. Large chunks of the story were reworked based on your feedback and suggestions, (part four was completely rewritten) and it made all the difference. I am genuinely grateful.

To my delightful copyeditor, Quata Merit, thank you for making the editing process a pleasure.

To my meticulous proofreader, Belinda Crowe and my eagle-eyed “Oops Detectives,” Kathy Hernandez, Lisa Dill, and Suzanne Mathewson, thank you for finding those pesky gremlins that slipped through the cracks. Your hard work is the icing on the cake!

To my mother, father, and sister, thank you for supporting and believing in me. I love you so much and couldn’t do it without you.

To Meeghn and Michael, thank you for your love, support, and friendship. Words cannot express how gratefully I am (but I’ll try) . . . the 75,699 words of Another Chance are dedicated to you.

To my good friend David, thank you for listening to me moan and groan during our weekly lunches (and then telling me to get back to work).

A special shout out to Matt, Gary, and Shannon. Thank you for your friendship and support over the years.

Of course, I can’t go without acknowledging my posse of friends that meet with me for coffee, lunch, and dinner: Sue, Ziad, Naomi, Peter, and Allan. Thank you for keeping me on track.

And most of all to my Heavenly Father, thank you for bringing these amazing people into my life and for choosing m
e for this incredible journey.
