Then someone sat on the arm of the chair and took her hand. “Anita.” It was Jason.
A half-smile played on her lips as she took long, steadying breaths. She hoped they could all be discrete, move on, and let the experience linger in their minds. Deciding the game was over, she opened her eyes. Against her will, heat rose to her face. She peeked around the room. Armando stood by the door while Paul sat on the couch. Both were fully dressed.
“Ready to head out? Paul wants to call it a night,” Jason said.
Back to business as usual, Anita thought, as she rose from the chair. “Sure.” Refusing to abuse her feet after the gift Jason had given her, she knelt down and picked up the stilettos.
She and Jason walked to the door where Armando waited. Although she had a hard time meeting Paul’s and Armando’s gazes, she bid them good night.
In the hallway, Armando went the opposite direction while Anita walked with Jason toward the elevators. After they’d stepped inside and had chosen their floors, Jason asked, “So what were you dreaming about?”
“Dreaming?”
“Yeah. It must have been good.” Jason gazed down at her with a grin. “You didn’t stop smiling the entire time.”
