6. and 7.—Claire Bayford and Peter Joliffe Hargreaves.—There is little to report concerning Mrs Bayford and Hargreaves. One month after the inquest they were married—at the church of St. Giles-in-the-Wold, near Bitterhaven. The marriage was kept extremely secret and was, in fact, only generally known about at the commencement of this month.
8. Adrian Brunton.—From almost immediately after the time of the inquest until a fortnight ago, Mr Adrian Brunton continued to reside at 44 Rajah Gardens. He lived there alone except for two servants—Mrs Brunton (q.v.) having gone away upon account of illness.
Mr Adrian Brunton interested himself in the affairs in which his father’s very considerable fortune had been invested. The opinion of the City in regard to Mr Adrian Brunton has undergone a great change. At the beginning he was, it is understood, regarded without any seriousness: now the general trend of opinion is to the reverse.
A fortnight ago Mr Brunton announced, via the daily press, his forthcoming marriage to Miss Susan Fanthorpe, the daughter of Mr Herbert Fanthorpe, the well-known stockbreeder.
The marriage was solemnised at the church of St. Mary’s, Burton Hampstead. Mr Brunton and his wife are at present on the Continent. Mr Brunton has announced that on his return to England, he and Mrs Brunton are taking up their residence near Burton Hampstead. He will not continue in the City.
9. Mrs Enid Brunton.—After the conclusion of the inquest Mrs Enid Brunton returned to 44 Rajah Gardens. For six days she went about her house and affairs as if nothing had happened. Upon the seventh day she collapsed.
She was removed to the Dorset Nursing Home in Manchester Square where she lay, for over ten days, in an extremely critical condition. She made a slow recovery. Approximately about a month ago, however, she returned to London from Italy and bought the lease of a small house near Regent’s Park.
She is understood to be interesting herself (to the exclusion of all else) in the foundation of a new charitable organisation to be known as the Middle Class Protection Society.
