“Please, oh God, I need to feel your tongue on me...”
He decided to put her out of misery with a quick swipe of his tongue across her clit.
She screamed and tried to grind her pussy into his face, but the handcuffs restrained her. “More, goddammmit, I need more.”
He loved making her so hot for him. He knew it was nights that like this that she needed to be fucked with wild abandon, and he was just the man to give her what she needed. He spread her pussy lips wide and watched the juice seep down between her ass cheeks. One long swipe of his tongue caught the trickle before it disappeared. He licked his lips, loving the taste and erotic scent of her pussy when she was turned on. He thrust his tongue inside of her, desperate to taste more. He swirled his tongue, in and out, around her pussy lips, over her clit, and back inside her cunt.
“Oh God, oh God, oh God,” she cried, thrashing against the mattress as she pulled against the handcuffs.
He held his lips against her clit. “Mmmm.” He felt the vibration and knew it went straight to her core. “Mmmm. You taste so fuckin’ sweet. I love the taste of your come on my lips.”
She continued to thrash, screaming and crying out his name.
“What do you want me to do, baby?” he asked, knowing exactly what she needed. “Is this what you want?” He sucked her clit into his mouth. “Yeah?” He flicked his tongue across her clit, fast and furious. “Or how about that?”
“Yes, more, oh God, I need to come.”
He didn’t just want to make her come. He wanted to make her explode. He pried her apart again, exposing the tiny bundle of nerves that was going to send her spiralling over the edge. He worked her clit with his tongue, licking, kissing, sucking, blowing on it, until she finally erupted, spewing sweet, hot come over his tongue. He held the inside of her thighs, continuing to work her over until the trembling subsided and she was pleading for mercy.
He wasn’t feeling merciful. He’d just gotten started making up for lost time.
“My turn,” she said, her eyes drifting closed as she licked her lips. “I want to suck your cock.”
He thought he’d never hear her say those words again. Just the promise of her mouth on him was enough to make him want to shoot his hot come down her throat. But he wasn’t ready to come, not yet. When he did, he wanted to be seated deep inside of her, with her hips tilted up to capture his seed.
“Soon, baby,” he whispered, easing his body over hers. “Let me give these gorgeous tits some attention first.” He knew from experience that her nipples were ultrasensitive. In the past, he had licked and sucked on her nipples until she was on the verge of an orgasm, dripping wet and begging for him. He couldn’t wait to make her beg for him again.
He rolled his tongue around her taut nipple, sucking it into his mouth.
He loved her body. But he knew he wasn’t the only one. Men routinely stopped to gawk at her in the street, driving him insane with jealousy. Especially when she had the audacity to smile and wink at them as though he wasn’t even there. He knew any man would kill to be in his position right now, with her in his bed, at his mercy. He’d be a fool not to make the most of the opportunity to give her the baby she so desperately wanted. This past year, he’d realized she wasn’t the only one who wanted a family. He did too, more than anything.
“I need to feel you inside me, Chase.”
“I want that too, sweetheart,” he whispered. He slid his finger inside her to make sure she was ready before sliding his cock into her tight opening.
She looked up at him, stunned. “Wait, we need a condom.”
He took her mouth as he pumped into her steadily, creating just enough friction against her clit make her come again.
“Oh God, wait,” she cried, when she finally tore her mouth away from his. “The condom.”
“No.” He leaned over her, his hands bracketing her face. “I want you to have my baby, Taylor.”
Her eyes widened in shock. “What? What are you talking about? We’ve been separated for almost a year.”
He didn’t respond, just continued to drive into her until her eyes drifted closed. “That’s it, sweetheart, just let go.” He could tell her mind was resisting, even though her body wanted to give into his demands. “Come for me again.”
“We have to stop.” Her face contorted in ecstasy as he reached between them to rub her clit with his finger. “We need to talk about this. My cycle, this is the right time for me to get pregnant. I can’t risk it.”
He hated that she thought getting pregnant was too risky now, when for years she’d begged him to have a baby. He always told her the timing was wrong, maybe once he retired from hockey he’d consider it. He’d clearly waited too long. “I want this, Taylor. Come on, honey, let’s do this now. Let’s make a baby.”
He felt his balls tightening, the pressure mounting. He knew in a few seconds it would be beyond their control. Maybe that was for the best, if she got pregnant... He lowered his head. “Goddammit, I’m so close.”
“Pull out, now.”
He opened his eyes to look at her, trying to fight his internal battle. “Sweetheart, please, let’s do this.” He panted, trying to catch his breath. “I’ve thought about it a lot. This is what I want.”
A tear slipped down her cheek. “I filed for divorce, Chase.”
He felt like someone hit him from behind, hammering him into the boards, knocking the wind out of him. For a second, he was too stunned to move until his body spurred him into action. He pulled his cock out, letting his hot come spill all over her tight abdomen.
“I’m sorry,” she whispered, crying. “I didn’t intend to tell you like this.”
His mind was reeling. She was divorcing him. He’d really lost her.
“Chase, take these off,” she said, rattling the handcuffs against the bedpost.
He looked at her and realized this was the last time she would ever be in his bed, the last time they would ever make love. She had been his whole world for the better part of a decade. His life didn’t make sense without her. He’d spent the last year fixating on how he was going to get her back.
He freed her from the handcuffs without saying a word.
She sat up, pulling the sheet over her. “Chase, this can’t come as a surprise to you. We’ve been apart for a while.”
He reached behind the bathroom door and tossed a towel at her before walking into the closet to retrieve the items he needed. “Get dressed. I’ll take you back to your car.”
“I want you to know I’ll honour the terms of the pre-nup. I don’t want your money,” she said quietly.
He threw the running shoes he’d been carrying against the mirror, one after the other. “You think I give a fuck about the money?” he shouted. “Take it all; take every goddamn dime I ever made. I don’t give a shit. It doesn’t matter. Nothing matters anymore.”
He stalked into the bathroom and let his clothes fall in a heap on the floor. He leaned over the mirror, his trembling hands braced on the granite countertop. He tried to suck air into his lungs, but his chest hurt too much to draw breath. “What the hell am I gonna do now?” he asked, looking at his reflection in the mirror.
Taylor quickly ran around the apartment, retrieving her clothes. She couldn’t ask him to drive her back to the wedding in his condition. She would get a taxi, but she couldn’t leave without saying good-bye. She wondered if this would be their final good-bye, not that she blamed him for being furious with her. She shouldn’t have given into the temptation to sleep with him again. It was wrong to lead him on, to give him false hope.
She tapped her knuckles against the bathroom door. “Chase, I’m leaving now. I’ll call a cab and wait downstairs, okay?” She waited for him to respond, but he said nothing. “Are you all right?”
He opened the door, dressed in jeans and a team sweatshirt. “I’ll take you back to the wedding.”
She grabbed his arm. “I’m sorry, this should never have happened.”
He looked at
the rumpled bed before looking down at her. “I’m glad it did. I just wish I’d have known it was gonna be our last time together.”
She reached up to stroke his face, but he grabbed her wrist.
“Don’t,” he hissed. “Don’t touch me.”
She pulled her hand back quickly. “I’m sorry, I just wanted...”
“I know what you wanted, Taylor. You wanted to comfort me; you wanted to make me feel better. Well guess what, you can’t.” His eyes shone with un-shed tears. “This is killing me and nothing you say or do is gonna make it any better.”
She grabbed his bicep when he tried to walk past her. “Look, you were my husband for a long time. I hope we can still be...”
He smirked, getting in her face. “You hope we can be friends? I don’t want to be your friend unless I can be husband, your lover, your every-fucking-thing.” He shrugged. “You know me; I’m an all or nothing kind of guy.”
“I’m sorry,” she whispered, knowing the words wouldn’t give either of them the closure they needed.
“So am I. I’m sorry for whatever the hell I did to make you stop loving me.” He shook her off before she could respond.
She watched him sit on the bench at the foot of his bed and lace his shoes. He looked like the professional athlete he was, big, strong, and powerful. Only now his broad shoulders were slumped and she knew, thanks to her, he must feel like he was carrying an unbearable burden. She knew it was never easy to contemplate the end of a marriage, especially for a man like Chase, for whom failure was never an option.
“My timing really sucks, I’m sorry,” she said, walking towards him, hoping he would be ready to accept her comfort. More than anything, she wanted to hold him, to feel his arms around her again. The thought that he may never touch her again scared the hell out of her. She thought she had come to terms with the divorce. But just one night in his arms made her wonder whether she would ever be able to find someone who made her feel the way he did.
“You mean telling me you were divorcing me while I was trying to get you pregnant?” He shook his head, looking disgusted. “Yeah, you could have timed that a little better.” He fisted his keys in his hand. “Come on, I need to get the hell outta here. This room smells like sex. The last thing I need is another reminder.”
“Are you sorry we made love?” she asked, following him to the living room.
He turned around to face her. “We didn’t make love; we had sex. You don’t love me anymore. If you did, you wouldn’t even consider ending our marriage without trying to make it work.”
She grabbed his arm when he reached for the door handle. “How dare you blame this all on me? I wanted this marriage to work; you were the one holding back.”
He rolled his eyes. “That’s bullshit. I gave you everything.”
“What did you give me? A big, fancy house, luxury car, designer clothes, jewellery...”
He smirked. “Yeah, what an asshole I was.”
“You tried to buy my happiness.” He never understood that it wasn’t the material things that made her happy. She would have loved him if he didn’t have a dime to his name. “I didn’t want those things. What I wanted was more time with you.”
“I did the best I could,” he muttered, refusing to look her in the eye.
“No, we both know you didn’t. You were on the road the better part of the year, and when you were home, you were in the gym or watching sports or hanging out with the guys. The only time I could get your interest was when I stripped naked in front of you.” It still hurt to know she hadn’t been enough to capture his interest without having to use her body as a lure.
“We did things together.”
“Like what? Watching the game, ordering pizza on a Saturday night, playing video games? I wanted do things with you, go places...”
“Honey, you know what that was like. We’d go into a restaurant, and I’d spend half the night signing autographs before we could finally sneak out.”
She crossed her arms, convinced he hadn’t changed at all in the last year. They had this argument dozens of time over the course of their marriage, and he was still giving her the same tired excuses. “But I suppose going to a bar with half a dozen teammates didn’t draw attention, did it?”
He sighed. “Do we have to do this again?”
She shook her head, refusing to give in to the tears. “No, that’s the beauty of divorce. We don’t ever have to do this again, Chase.”
Chapter Four
The drive back to the wedding reception was tense. He needed to let loose on his heavy bag, and she knew him well enough to know it was only a matter of time before his fist connected with a target. He pulled into the parking lot, and the first thing he saw was his wife’s boyfriend walking out to the parking lot with a big bull’s eye painted on his forehead.
He screeched to a stop, parking on an angle as he jumped out of the truck.
“Ohmigod, Chase, no,” Taylor shouted, getting out of the truck. “Don’t, please don’t hurt him.”
She ran up, positioning her body between the two men.
Even in the dark, Chase had the satisfaction of knowing the other man was turning a ghastly shade of pale. He grabbed Taylor by the shoulders. “Get out of the way,” he said quietly. “This is between me and your boyfriend.”
She tried, unsuccessfully, to push him back. “No, I’m not gonna let you do this. I won’t let you hurt him.”
Her need to protect him enraged Chase even more. “Get out of my way, now.”
She folded her arms across her chest, glaring at him. “No, you can’t beat up every man who shows an interest in me.”
He knew she was right. As much as he hated to admit it, he had no choice but to let her go. “Fine, you want him, you can have him. It’s over, Taylor; I hope you have a nice life.” He pounded the pavement, anxious to put some distance between them, but she was on his heels.
“Chase, wait. I don’t want it to end like this.” She reached for his hand.
He shook his head, stunned by her audacity. “You said you wanted me out of your life. Congratulations, you’re getting what you wanted.” He reached for the door handle and clenched his teeth when her hand covered his.
“About tonight...”
He turned to face her. “Tonight was...” He wanted to be cruel, to hurt her the way she’d hurt him, but he couldn’t. He still loved her too much. “Amazing.”
She reached up to hug him, and he couldn’t resist the urge to pull her into his arms. “I love you, baby. I always will, just remember that,” he whispered, burying his face in her neck. “I gotta get the hell outta here before I do something I’m gonna regret.”
She shook her head and pulled back slowly. “Good luck tomorrow night. You have a playoff game in Boston, right?”
A few hours ago, he would have been encouraged by the fact that she still cared enough to watch his games. Now, it didn’t seem to matter. Their marriage was over and there was no going back. “Thanks. I guess I’ll be hearing from your lawyer, huh?” He looked over at James. “Please tell me it’s not that guy.”
She smiled. “No, he’s not a divorce lawyer.”
“I guess I should be thankful for small favours.” He climbed up into his truck and started the engine. He hesitated before pushing the button to roll the window down. “Good-bye, beautiful. Be happy, okay?”
She bit her bottom lip and nodded as the tears streaked her cheeks. “You too, Chase.”
Taylor turned toward James, steeling herself for the painful conversation ahead. “James, we need to talk.”
He held his hands up to silence her. “If this is about what happened between you and your ex-husband tonight, you don’t owe me an explanation.”
“He’s not my ex-husband; not yet anyway.” She didn’t know what prompted her to make the distinction, but after what happened in his bedroom, Chase still made her feel like his wife, in every way.
He frowned, looking puzzled. “You’re arguing semantics with me?
Judging by his reaction, I assume you told him it’s over, and that’s all that matters.” He glanced at her left hand. “And I see you took that gaudy wedding ring off.” He shook his head, seemingly disgusted. “I could never understand why men like that feel they have to over-compensate with big diamond rings. It’s as though he was trying to advertise to the world that you were his personal property.”
She thought to defend Chase, but she knew it was a moot point. James believed he was always right, which left little room for another person’s opinions. “We need to talk about us,” she said quietly.
“I have a room at the hotel next door. Why don’t we head over and have a nightcap?” Without waiting for her consent, he began to walk toward the adjoining building.
“I should probably say good-night to the bride and groom,” she said, watching the familiar faces trickling out of the banquet hall. “Not to mention my parents.”
“The bride and groom left hours ago.” He took her hand in his as they walked. “Honestly, I think it was kind of rude. It’s not like they won’t have the rest of their lives to... well, you know.”
She looked up at him, struck by the differences between James and her husband. James was conservative and reserved, while Chase was outgoing, fun, and sexy. Chase loved talking about sex almost as much as the act itself, whereas James seemed to believe sex and any mention of it should be relegated to the bedroom.
After one more night with Chase, she realized she’d been pretending she could be content with vanilla sex instead of admitting she needed Chase’s high-handed brand of loving to be truly satisfied. If she ever hoped to find happiness with another person, she had to learn how to love herself, and she couldn’t do that until she came to terms with her past.
She allowed James to lead her to his suite, knowing they would need the benefit of privacy. Once they were settled in his suite and she declined his offer of a drink, she took his hand in hers.
