She watched her lover join his men, and he too mimicked their position. As one, he and his men bowed their heads and said, “My Queen.” Rafael was the first one to stand then the others followed suit. Kaya was stunned. She couldn’t move nor could she find the words to express the emotions running through her heart. She let the tears falling down her cheeks speak for her.
Rafael held out his hand, and she placed hers in it. The men stood still while they watched their King. He dropped to one knee and held out a black box. “When Gargouille find a mate, it is for life. Since you are human, I want to honor your ways of bonding and ask that you not only be my Queen, but also my wife.”
Kaya stared at the box then at her lover down on one knee. She knew little about his kind but in her heart she felt that he would never bend a knee for anyone unless they were important to him. She was important to him. His Queen. “I would be honored to be your wife, Mr. Stone.” He stood and removed the ring from its case and placed it on her finger. She held her left hand out and admired the antique setting that was filled with smaller stones surrounding one larger one. She placed her hands on either side of his face and pulled him in for a kiss.
When the wolf whistles cut through their moment, he pulled her to his side and turned to the men. Frey held out a glass for both of them then picked up his own. “A toast if you will. Now that the bonding has been made official, I speak for the Clan when I say we are honored for you to be Rafael’s mate, as well as our Queen. May your days be filled with love and your nights filled with the tranquility of the stars above. And soon, may your home be filled with the sound of little feet running amok.” The men chuckled and raised their glasses. “Here, here!”
Kaya looked up at Rafael and smiled. He bent his head and kissed her softy before touching his glass to hers. “Honored indeed, Miss Kane.”
Epilogue
Kaya stood at the kitchen table scooping seeds out of the pumpkin she was going to carve. A dark haired little boy with eyes the color of pitch stood in the chair watching intently. The back door opened and the little boy jumped down and ran, strewing pumpkin seeds all over the kitchen floor. “Bas, come back here. Sebastian!”
“Papa, look! Momma’s making us a punkin.” Rafael laughed, picking his son up, throwing him in the air, causing the child to laugh and seeds to go flying. With his child once again safe in his arms, he leaned over and kissed Kaya on the cheek. She smiled at her son then looked up at the man holding him. “Hello, Papa.”
“Hello, my love. How are my two favorite people in the world?”
“Better now that you’re here. Always better.” Kaya couldn’t have imagined the love she felt for Rafael in the beginning of their relationship would get any stronger. She was wrong. When they found out she was pregnant, she was scared. They both were. Not knowing how her body would react or if she would be able to carry their baby to term was terrifying. Soon after she found out, the last journal was located. It was with great relief they read that Caroline Montagnon had carried and delivered seventeen healthy babies to term.
The Di Pietro line would continue and one day their son, Sebastian, would become King. But for now, he was enjoying being a happy, mischievous little boy who had plenty of uncles to spoil him.
The ever rambunctious child began wiggling, and his Papa sat him down. Bas walked over to his mother and wrapped his little arms around her legs and began whispering. “What was that, Bas?” she asked the littlest love of her life.
His sweet face turned up to hers and he said, “I was telling Seven that Papa is home.”
Kaya looked at Rafael who was frowning at their son. When Bas was born they finally told each other about their dreams of him and his coming to Rafe during his meditation. “Sebastian, who is Seven?” Rafael asked his son.
“My baby sister in Momma’s tummy,” he said as he flung more pumpkin seeds off his sticky hands.
Stefania Seven Di Pietro was born nine months later on July 7th.
