Heart of a Stripper Page 17

“So by the looks of things, we’re all good in here?” Adam asked.

“If Nevaeh says yes, then we will be.” Mitchell insisted.

“Yes to what?” Adam asked nervously.

He sure as hell hoped that Mitchell wasn’t trying to rush into another marriage. For Christ sakes, he had just walked out on one.

“For her to move in with me, don’t worry Adam I’m not asking her to marry me or anything.” Mitchell replied, putting his best friend at ease.

“So, am I going to be an uncle or what?” Adam smiled brightly.

“My answer is yes, to both of you.” Nevaeh responded.

Mitchell glared at the sky, and watched the stars twinkle. For the first time in his life he was actually content. The cool air felt good against his skin, as he stood there. He suddenly felt a hand on his shoulder, and spun around.

“She’s waiting for you.” Adam smiled.

“Alright.” Mitchell replied, following him over to the pink and white table full of gifts.

Nevaeh was sitting in a big wicker chair, beside the table. She was wearing a beautiful white gown and a crown that read, “Mommy to be”. Her stomach was huge, and there was no doubt she was ready to have the baby. Walking over to her, Mitchell knelt and kissed her before rubbing her ever growing belly gently. It had been six and a half months since they’d heard the good news about her pregnancy.

“I think we should cut the cake now.” She smiled.

“Anything you want sweetie. I think you should start opening the gifts now too.” He smiled back.

They were having the baby shower, and both of their friends, and a few of his family members were there. He had everything set up properly, on the beach behind his house. Nevaeh had already graduated early, and she was going to be starting her semester in culinary school after the baby was born. Chef Goutier had already been teaching her the things she needed to know. He had no doubt she would be a head chef in no time, in fact he had a space for her at his restaurant.

Mitchell kissed Nevaeh again, before telling the waiters to start serving the cake. Since finding out Nevaeh was still pregnant, things had completely changed. She’d moved in permanently as she promised to, and he didn’t let anyone come between them. She and the baby meant the world to him, and he had done everything to ensure they were safe. Nevaeh didn’t want for anything, and Mitchell made it to every doctor’s appointment she had. When they had the sonogram to find out what they were having, he was over the moon happy with joy.

As far as it came to their relationship, they’d taken their time, but gravitated towards each other. There was no logical reason for them to be apart, and both of them knew that. So, with nothing else standing in their way, they fell even deeper in love. Grabbing a present from the table, Adam handed it to Nevaeh, and she gladly tore it open as everyone watched in suspense.

Mitchell watched, as her face lit up at seeing the present. He smiled, as his cell phone buzzed. Taking it out of his pocket, he saw that he had a text message. Reading it, he went flush before shoving the phone back in his pocket. Gritting his teeth, he knelt over to Nevaeh.

“I need to go get something.” He whispered in her ear, as Adam handed her another gift.

“Hurry back, please.” She insisted, kissing him again.

“Will do.” He answered, before disappearing into the house.

Walking passed the living room and kitchen; he ended up at his front door. Opening the door, he saw his father standing there. Glaring up at him, he couldn’t believe the nerve he had to show up to his house unannounced.

“What are you doing here?” he asked through gritted teeth.

“I wanted to see my son, and—”

“I told you, I never wanted to see you again.” Mitchell barked.

“Yeah, I’m hoping you’d change your mind about that.”

“There’s not a chance in hell.” Mitchell answered.

“Look, you’re a better man than I ever was or will be, and you know that’s hard for me to admit. Don’t let what I did change you.” Bruce acknowledged.

“I have no intention of letting it.” He grumbled.

“Good, I’m hoping one day, you could do what I struggled to do, and forgive me. I have a present for Nevaeh.” He insisted pulling out an envelope.

“You’re not seeing her. You can’t just drop by, I told you—”

“I sent you a text message.” he said jokingly, but Mitchell didn’t smile. “Fine, here.” Bruce said handing the envelope to him.

  “What is it?” Mitchell asked.

“Put it in a safe place. It’s a trust fund I started for my granddaughter. When she’s born, there will be a million dollars added. Ever year that she gets older, it’ll go up. One million when she’s one, two million when she’s two…you get the gest.” Bruce answered.

Mitchell stood speechless, as he stared at his father. That was the last thing he’d expected from him. He had been trying to reach out to him for the past few months, but Mitchell ignored him. This just wasn’t what he expected for their reunion.

  “Thanks.” Mitchell muttered, flabbergasted.

“Don’t thank me, it’s something I should’ve been doing all my life. Hopefully one day, I can meet her when you’re ready. Bruce said optimistic. “I guess this is bye. You know how to find me when you’re ready.” Bruce said walking off.

Closing the door, Mitchell sucked in a breath as he gathered himself. A moment later, he felt a hand slip into his. Spinning around, he saw Nevaeh standing there.

“What’s taking you so long?” she asked, looking up into his eyes.

“I’m sorry sweetheart, I didn’t mean to keep you waiting.” He said, helping her walk back through the house and outside. Sitting her back in the chair, he stared at the few gifts that she’d opened. He saw diapers, clothes, a bassinet and a baby bath.

“These are all great. I can’t imagine what else is left.” Mitchell said, looking at the still full table.

“If you don’t mind, I’d like to give you my gift now.” He said, as everyone watched.

“You didn’t have to get me anything. She giggled.

“I did because I knew everyone else would be bringing stuff for the baby. I didn’t want you to feel left out. You are after all the person carrying her.” He smiled, and all the girls melted over his comment.

“Aww, baby.” She replied looking at him in the moonlight.

Mitchell dug into his pocket, and pulled out a navy blue velvet box. Getting down on one knee, Nevaeh’s breath got in her throat. As he opened the box, he looked up to her as she saw the huge pink diamond encrusted ring. The platinum gold glimmered in the moonlight. Taking in a breath, Mitchell asked the ultimate question.

“Nevaeh Sky, I love you with all my heart and there will never be another to take your place. You’ve already blessed me with a family that I’ve always dreamed of. Will you do me the greatest honor, and be my wife?” he inquired.

“Yes!” she screamed. “Of course I will.”

Letting out a sigh of relief, he placed the heavy ring on her ring finger, before hugging her. Being engaged to her, meant everything, it was his totally commitment. Of course he was planning to wait until she finished culinary school for the wedding, but he just couldn’t wait to ask for her hand.

“I love you.” They said in unison before he kissed her and he giggled. “You are my eternity.”

Rubbing her belly, he knew they had a lifetime of love ahead of them. He had won her heart, and there was no doubt that she had undoubtedly won his.
