by Betsy Haynes
I couldn't help feeling a little smug about that, but at the same time I was feeling guilty again. I knew Randy must be thinking that I was just about the worst person he had ever met.
"And, Jana," he said kind of softly, "I'm sorry I yelled at you. What you did to Taffy was mean, but the more I think about it, the more I really admire you for trying to save her life even though you two aren't friends. Besides, sometimes I can understand why you don't like her. Anyway, I told Taffy what you did. I think that's what changed her mind about going back to school. And one more thing . . . I was wondering if you'd like to watch me in the football game Saturday afternoon, and then go for pizza with me afterward?"
At first I couldn't believe what he was saying. My heart started pounding like crazy. Randy was finally telling me what he thinks of me. He was saying that he does think I'm kind and sensitive and that he's a little bit crazy about me. I remembered what Mom had said about soap operas being intriguing and exciting. Well, this was certainly more intriguing and exciting than any soap opera. I could hardly wait to tell my friends.
"I'd love to go to your game and then out for pizza with you," I said.
After we hung up, I hugged myself. I was so happy I thought I'd die. This was just the beginning for Randy and me. We would be together forever. I closed my eyes. I could see it all.
