The Scars I Bare Page 25

by J. L. Berg

There, he can lick his wounds and plan his future. That or drink himself into the next decade. Whichever comes first.

Millie McIntyre’s life was going places. With a successful career in one of the top fashion houses in the world, she was headed straight to the top. That is until it all came crashing down around her in a single career ending email.

Hoping to disappear, she heads home under the ruse of an extended vacation to help run the family inn while her sister is out on maternity leave. After all, what is family for?

There she finds herself playing hostess to Aiden—a rude, overbearing sort of man who makes her question everything, including the burning desire she feels whenever he is near. Neither has plans for love in their life, but it happens just the same. But can love alone be enough? When the lies they’ve told are finally exposed, will it bring them closer or tear them apart?

Number fourteen! I am always amazed whenever I get to this part of the book writing process. The part where I thank all the people who make this whole journey even possible—who have made fourteen books possible!

  So, here we go!

As always, I must first thank my soulmate, my best friend and the best damn beta reader out there—my husband, Chris. Without him, I wouldn’t know what a true hero was, nor how to write one. Thank you babe.

A big thanks goes out to my girls for being extremely patient this time around. After numerous illnesses, I had a tight deadline to get this book finished and they were very understanding when Mom locked herself in her office for days on end.

This book would not be complete without the talent and help of my incredible team which includes Jill Sava, my personal assistant who always keeps me on task and Nina Grinstead, my publicist who makes sure everyone actually hears about the books I write. Jovana Shirley and Ami Waters—I couldn’t ask for two better people to work with. Thank you for making me better and keeping all my terrible habits a secret! To my beta and review team—you guys are awesome! Thank you for supporting my words! I couldn’t do this without you!

Also helping me out with this book was Sarah Hansen who created this gorgeous cover and Wander Aguiar and David Wills who provided the photography and modeling. Stacey Blake from Champagne book designs, thank you for making the inside of my books as gorgeous as the outside. A special thanks also goes out to Ben Braun, who helped me make sure my fishing jargon was legit.

To my readers group—Berg’s Bibliophiles! I love you! And I hope you guys are ready for more Ocracoke drama because Millie is coming! And to the rest of my readers, thank you for reading my words and trusting me to give you yet another happily ever after. Here’s to fourteen more!
