A Rambling Wreck: Book 2 of The Hidden Truth Page 33

by Hans G. Schantz

I very much enjoy the Girl Genius web comic as well as Jim Butcher’s The Cinder Spires: The Aeronaut’s Windlass. Now, there’s a new steampunk contender, Jon Del Arroz’s For Steam and Country. Speaking of webcomics, Big Head Press hosts a number of great titles. I enjoyed Roswell, Texas, and Scott Beiser’s current strip, Quantum Vibe is excellent as well. Declan Finn’s A Pius Man: A Holy Thriller is the kind of historically-illuminated thriller I enjoy. Francis Porretto is the author of the Spooner Federation trilogy. I appreciated his poignant Love in the Time of Cinema. Richard Paolinelli’s Escaping Infinity offers a creepy yet strangely satisfying tale that reads like something out of The Twilight Zone. JP Mac makes the Lovecraft mythos accessible to non-fans like me in Hallow Mass. A college student must rise to the occasion when an unspeakable evil threatens, not just her campus, but also all of existence in this brilliant, clever mix of horror, ironic humor, and modern-day campus political correctness. Atlas Shrugged meets Invasion of the Body Snatchers in Justin Robinson’s The Good Fight.

Daniel Humphreys examines what happens after the zombie outbreak, when the greatest enemy the survivors face is themselves in A Place Outside the Wild. Kurt Schlichter has written some excellent dystopic military thrillers set in a future in which the U.S. has split into two countries. Check out People’s Republic, and Indian Country. Finally, a reviewer of The Hidden Truth pointed out that Michael Flynn’s In the Country of the Blind adopts a similar trope of a shadowy conspiracy in control of history with a bit of a steampunk twist. I had trouble following all the characters, but my readers might find it of interest.

Where do I find all these wonderful books? The Conservative Libertarian Fiction Alliance on Facebook is a great place for readers and authors to mingle and learn about the latest great releases. The Ace of Spades HQ Moron Horde Sunday Morning Book Thread is full of good suggestions, as is the Book Horde blog at http://www.bookhorde.org.

Thanks again for your interest in A Rambling Wreck.
