The Dragon Camp (Stonefire Dragons Short Book 2) Page 3

by Jessie Donovan

His dragon spoke up. He is clan leader. He probably knows everything.

But it also means we have to follow the rules for a little while.

  Just a little while?

Well, I'm sure if we have another event, with all the parents and teachers, then we might be able to sneak away for a bit. It'll be on Stonefire, and we won't leave the clan's lands. That should still be safe.

Hmm. Maybe. We'll have to plan carefully and think of a better strategy. More than this time, for sure.

Daisy poked his side and whispered, "He's waiting."

Sure enough, Bram was staring at him. Freddie made his voice work. "Of course, sir."

Bram nodded. "Good. Now, listen to your teachers and the camp staff. Whether we hold another camp or not depends on if this one is successful. So let's make this one fantastic, aye?"

As Bram left, Freddie resisted swallowing. Bram knew what they'd done and was warning them not to make a mess of the remaining days.

They'd just have to be good and really careful not to break any more rules.

At least they had their next idea to work on.

His dragon grunted. And lots of fun things at the camp. Maybe we can find another friend to play with Emily. Then we can spend more time with Daisy.

Good idea. Hmm, I'll have to be careful, though. I don't want anyone being mean to Emily.

As he tried to think of who would be a good friend for the other human, the entire class got up and left the room in an orderly fashion, as the teachers called it.

They'd have to find another time to talk with Mr. MacLeod about their party idea. Freddie was just happy he had four more days to try. Because that also meant he could see Daisy more. And even without sneaking away, they'd have fun.

Wanting to hurry up and get out of the hall, he grabbed Daisy's hand. And with her holding Emily's, the three of them made it to the front of the line and to their usual seats at the back of the bus in no time.

And even as the bus drove away and Daisy let go of Emily's hand, he kept Daisy's in his. She was his friend, maybe soon his best friend, and he hated thinking of her going away again. So he'd make every second he had left count.

  Epilogue

  A few months later

Daisy exited the car and raced around to the driver's side. As soon as her mum opened the door, Daisy grabbed her mother's hand and tugged. "Come on, Mum. I don't want to be late."

Her mum smiled. "Daisy, dear, we're one of the first ones here. We have plenty of time."

She shook her head. "Not really. I have to practice my lines, change into my costume, and even let the teacher put on some makeup." She tugged her mother's hand harder. "And I want you to meet some of the dragon-shifters, too. And not just Freddie's parents, either. You volunteered to help with the lighting and stuff for our play. But to do that means you need to meet Mr. Whitby and learn what to do."

Mr. Whitby—Freddie had told her his first name was Blake—was very, very shy. He didn't speak much, except to children. He liked helping them, especially with all the special things she and Freddie wanted in their play. Mr. Whitby was a genius, or something, with inventing stuff.

And he'd even invented a few special things to help make their play amazing.

Her mum tucked some of Daisy's hair behind her ear. "Don't get too excited, love. You forget your lines when you do."

"That's why we need to hurry, so I have more time to practice. Come on, Mum. Let's go. I see Miss Nikki. She's a dragon Protector. A female one! And she'll take us where we need to go."

Her mother finally started walking, and Daisy tried her best to hurry her along. There was so much to do tonight, and the play was only part of it.

Maybe if she were lucky, Freddie's plan would work.

And remembering their plan, she walked even faster.

  *~*~*

I hope you enjoyed the continuation of Freddie and Daisy's story! Readers loved the first story, and so I wrote this one and have at least one more planned. (Yes, it will be about the play and the shenanigans Freddie and Daisy have in store for Daisy's mother!) Eagle-eyed readers will catch the name Blake Whitby and connect him back to Craved by the Dragon (Stonefire Dragons #11). You don't need to know that, but as all my dragon books do, they connect in some way.
