  ‘Sorry!’ Keeper shouted, as she slid down from the Garden roof. ‘Sorry! Sorry! Oh, FUDDLESTICKS, are you hurt?’

  She clambered over the old mining vehicles, heaving bits of rusted metal out of the way.

  And there she found a boy.

  His clothes were torn, his body bruised, his hands still gripped tightly around the handle of a wide, heavy sword. He slowly lifted his head, and stared at Keeper through a tangle of floppy, purple hair.

  ‘My name is Santoro Everdew.’ He coughed. ‘I’m looking for my brother.’
