  “Graham—”

“It would be vastly more romantic if I wasn’t getting...” He winced, dancing out of the way of one of the fowls. “...For the love of God...” Rowena’s lips twitched. “Pecked to death by angry swans, who should really quite figure that the water is right over there, and a good deal more—”

“Graham,” she cried, cupping her hands around her mouth and bringing an immediate cessation to his words. “Yes,” she said softly.

He tossed his hands up. “What?” And then his arms fell to his sides.

Rowena nodded. “Yes,” she repeated. She walked quickly, her legs eating away the distance as she cut a swath toward him, scattering the swans. She stood before him and angled her head back to meet his gaze.

  “Yes?” His throat bobbed.

“Yes, I will marry you. I love you, Graham Linford with so many names, and I never stopped. I never can stop. I—”

“For goodness sake, Hampstead. Kiss the lady already,” Ainsley wailed.

To the shocked gasps and romantic sighing, he claimed Rowena’s lips. Her eyes slid closed as heat burned through her like the high sun. He drew back and her lashes fluttered open. “It is fortunate I am a duke and not a shepherd, or we would be penniless.”

Several swans flapped their broad wings in apparent fowl-agreement.

Rowena’s lips twitched, and as she leaned up on tiptoe so their noses brushed, she said, “Ah, but that is where you are wrong. You may not move a muted swan about with much success, but my heart will go wherever your heart is.”

Graham stroked her lower lip with his thumb. “My heart is wherever you are. Let us find that home, together.”

He kissed her, once more, in a kiss that promised forever.
