“Besides, us undead have to stick together, right?”

For a treacherously long moment an awkward silence stood between them, and then Logan began to laugh. It was the genuine laughter of a guy Azoth had been friends with since high school, the kind of laugh that infected everyone around. Azoth joined in, and in moments the two were incapacitated by giggles.

When the joyous insanity had passed the two men looked at each other. They had a decision to make.

Logan nodded, then with a sly smile added.

“If she kills me I am gonna haunt your ass”

“Like a fart?” Azoth grinned, clapping his old friend on the shoulder.

  Logan groaned.

“I’m the dad here, I thought I was meant to make the bad jokes?”

Laughing, the pair started towards the staircase and their new companions. Dawn light was filtering through the opening, casting long shadows on the stairs behind them.

It was a new day, and a damn good time for a new plan.
