Prey to the Heart (Wolves of Wild Junction Book 1) Page 24

“I’m so glad I know you,” Antonio chuckled back at her.

“You can keep her,” her ex snarled at Thomas. “She’s just a fucking doe and she was always pretty boring in bed.”

“At least I don’t use my position to get laid,” she snapped, feeling indignant. Her temper flared back and so did her courage. Screw this wolf. He was the real dog in the room. “The only reason those bitches fucked you was your pretty face and your power as Alpha. I can’t believe I wasted so many years believing your lies, falling for that pretty face. You don’t give a damn about anyone but yourself, Gavin. I’m thankful Heather has put a fucking leash on you.”

“And now look at you,” Gavin sneered. “Obviously just another Pack slut.”

A crack made Abigail jump back. A body crumpled to the floor. James had laid Gavin out.

“Get out, Heather,” Thomas growled. No one moved. “I’ll stay out of your way, and you’ll stay out of mine. We don’t want trouble from you - and take that childish piece of shit with you. You knew I always fucking hated him.”

“I’m sorry for his behavior,” Heather replied honestly. She seemed tired to Abigail as she looked over to her. Abigail swallowed as Heather bowed her head slightly. “I should have warned you when we met years ago. I never disliked you. Now I wish I had gotten to know you better. You would have been a strong asset to my Pack.”

“I have a Pack now,” she told Heather. Abigail had never felt surer about anything she’d ever felt. This was her place. “Here.”

“Gavin will never understand what he threw away,” Heather sighed. “I’ll make sure he doesn’t cause you any trouble.” She looked back to Thomas and shrugged. “I made my play.”

“It was very feline of you, Heather,” Thomas chuckled. “I spend too much time around the Kingson Pride to fall for it now. Don’t try it again.”

“I won’t,” she promised. Then she got quieter, and Abigail wasn’t sure what the rest meant. “Have a good life. Honor them.”

“We do,” Thomas whispered. He looked over to Abigail and smiled gently at her. “We do.”

Abigail’s heart gave several rapid thumps in her chest. Heather snapped her fingers and an enforcer helped Gavin up and nearly dragged him out of the house. After everyone was gone, Abigail began to shake, and Antonio wrapped his arms around her.

  “You okay?” he asked softly.

“I could have started a war,” she gasped. “I slapped an Alpha. They could have killed you guys for that.”

Thomas snorted, and James chuckled, covering his face. She could feel Antonio’s attempt at silent laughter in his chest.

“You defended us,” James growled, grinning at her. She didn’t have a chance to stop him as he pulled her out of Antonio’s arms and kissed her deeply. His tongue dove into her mouth and she moaned as his hands roamed on her. When it broke off, he was just smiling at her, his chocolate eyes dancing. “Thank you.”

“I know what it means to call a wolf a dog,” she whispered. “I wasn’t going to let him do that to you guys.”

“Thank you,” James repeated himself, nuzzling his check to hers. It was such a wolf thing to do, something done to a loved one.

“You defended my honor too,” she laughed, pushing him away softly.

A silence fell but Abigail was feeling too excited. Adrenaline at what she had just walked in on was making her jumpy and ready to run.

Thomas must have noticed, since he walked over and threw an arm over her shoulder. “Do you want to go out for a run? Work off the excess energy?” He asked it as an Alpha looking to care for a Packmate, but Abigail had other ideas. She kicked off her shoes, thankful she was wearing flats and no socks. Socks would have ruined this.

Jump in with both feet, Riley had said. Abigail jumped.

“Do you mean a chase?” she asked, pulling away with a smile. She watched heat flare in his eyes, but it was James who gave a pleased growl.

  “He does now,” James answered.

Abigail began to walk down the hallway. Antonio let her pass, watching her like he was ready to pounce. It sent a bolt of heat to her center.

“And what will happen if you catch me?” she continued, pulling off her shirt and dropping it on the floor.

“We’re going to eat you,” Antonio growled, turning to follow her.

She undid her pants and kicked them off before she went out the back door. The bra flew off as she ran. Her underwear was last, and she left the scrap of cloth on the lawn as she shifted. She was in the trees when the first howl echoed.

She ran, knowing they would catch her. They knew these woods better than her, and she just ran, not even at top speed. It was the thrill of it, being chased and knowing they were chasing because they wanted her. And she wanted to be caught.

She skidded to a stop as Antonio pulled in front of her. She shifted to human form, but the wolf just stalked closer, making her heart race even faster. She tried to catch her breath as another wolf snuck up on her while she was focused on Antonio. A rough hand, Thomas’ hand, wrapped around her and pulled her back roughly into his chest. She could feel his cock, hard against her ass. Antonio shifted and prowled up to her. He wrapped a hand around the back of her neck.

“I hope you remember how this goes,” Thomas growled in her ear and Antonio kissed her. Her lips, her chin, her jaw. He kissed down her neck as James reclaimed her mouth and Thomas just held her in place for them. She was panting as James broke off the kiss. Antonio kissed lower, moving down to her breasts, and lavished one of her nipples with his tongue. James reclaimed her mouth before she could moan.

She wasn’t focused on anything when Antonio’s mouth latched onto her pussy and he licked through her folds with a growl. He pushed her legs apart wider and her knees buckled when he slid two fingers deep inside her with a snarl.

“How long has it been?” Thomas asked in her ear. James went down and took one of her nipples in his mouth with a pleased groan, nipping it gently.

“Years,” she answered him, barely able to focus. Years with another person, not something with batteries.

“Then we’ll need to make this good,” he chuckled. Antonio continued to thrust his fingers in her as Thomas backed off. She felt his hands squeeze her ass. “Mm. Yeah. We’ll need to make this very good.”

Antonio slid his fingers out before she finished, pulling a whimper from her lips. James moved to the side and Thomas gently pushed her to bend over. She bent at the waist, while James guided her arms to wrap around his waist, moving to stand at her head. Antonio sat on the grass near them, leaning back to enjoy the show.

Thomas positioned himself and thrust in, seating himself in her with that one solid move. She screamed his name as he gripped her hips.

“Abigail,” Thomas growled like a prayer. Between him and James, who supported her by letting her head rest on his abdomen, Abigail was lost to the feeling of Thomas fucking her from behind. He was relentless as she moaned into James, who ran his hand through her hair. She could feel every withdrawal and entry like it was the only thing that mattered.

Her eyes met Antonio’s, and she saw him rubbing himself to the same pace that Thomas was going. It was erotic and the sight of him only drove her further up. She was trapped in green eyes, caught in the arms of wolves as they took her body. She was their prey and her heart fell, tumbling down as her orgasm shattered her.

Thomas’s satisfied snarl rocked her to her core as he buried deep in her and came. She felt his forehead on her back as he finished, then pulled out of her. He kept a firm grip on her hips and James let her go so Thomas could pull her back up. She leaned on his chest, weak.

“We’re not done yet,” Thomas growled softly. She just moaned as James lifted her by her thighs and thrust her into Thomas. She wrapped her legs around James’ waist and her arms went around his neck as he pounded into her. Thomas stayed at her back, letting her lean on him as James drove into her, holding her ass in a tight grip.

He pushed her over the edge
faster than Thomas, panting over her as he followed. He pulled her closer and went to his knees. He laid her down gently on the grass, as they stared into each other’s eyes. He broke the contact as Antonio moved to kiss her. She was lost in them, lost in the pleasure they were giving her and the feelings that filled her heart. She knew Antonio was next and didn’t resist as James pulled out of her and Antonio took his place quickly.

There in the grass, Antonio took her slowly, just staring down at her, braced on his elbows as he worked his hips to push into her. She held on to him, calling out his name. She moved her hips up to accept more of him, but he kept the pace slower.

“Abby,” he crooned, nuzzling her neck as he continued to thrust. “Oh, pretty doe.”

She couldn’t find words. She just gave in completely, letting him shatter her heart and body one last time. He didn’t move after he came with her, just stayed over her, his body warm against hers.

Her eyelids drooped, and he chuckled.

“I think we need to get her back inside,” Antonio whispered to the others. She tried to look over to Thomas or James but didn’t see them. She was too exhausted to try harder.

“I think we should,” Thomas agreed. She felt Antonio leave her and someone picked her up. She took a deep inhale and realized it was James.

“So,” he murmured to her as they walked through the woods. “What does this make us?”

“I don’t know,” she answered, looking up at his face. “But…”

“But?” Thomas looked over to her. He was walking next to James, and Antonio was on Thomas’ other side.

“I want to try this,” she whispered. “For as long as I’m in Wild Junction, I want to try this.”

“Have we caught our prey?” James growled down at her softly. “Have we?”

“You have,” she answered, reaching up to touch his face. “You most definitely have.”

They caught her, and she was happy about it. She was tired of running from her heart. It was time she finally let it win again. She didn’t know if this was forever, but she was going to take it while she had the chance.

  Dear Reader,

Thank you for reading Prey to the Heart!

These characters and their story was something new for me. I was coming off a roller coaster of darkness in terms of writing. I needed something that was just about love. Bruised hearts, trying something new, finding your place type love.

So Abigail and her wolves, from the pages of the Kingson Pride Trilogy, called me back to Wild Junction to try and write something new. Just love.

I love them for that, the simplicity of them, the sweetness. They have been a warm, bright spot in my writing this year that I desperately needed. It was something different for me and that made it exciting as well.

Whether you loved or hated the book, please consider leaving a review. Every review, even just a few words, is appreciated.

PS. There’s two books for this cast. Abigail and her wolves will be back for more heartwarming love.

She curses like a sailor (though, she used to be one, so she uses that as an excuse) and finds that many people don’t know how to handle that. She loves to read, and before finally sitting to try her hand at writing, she had your normal kind of work history. From tattoo parlors, to the U.S. Navy, and freelance illustration, she’s stumbled through her adult years and somehow, is still kicking.

She loves to read books that make people cry. She likes to write books that make people cry (and she wants to hear about it). She’s a firm believer that nothing and no one in this world is perfect, and she enjoys exploring those imperfections—trying to make the characters seem real on the page and not just in her head.

She might be crazy, though. Her characters think so, but this can’t be confirmed.
