  By Cliff Deane

This book is dedicated to the memory of my Aunt Gloria Deane, a Domestic Engineer, and my Uncle Herman Deane, a WW II Sailor and Inventor. Their passing has left the Earth just one shade darker.

May God Bless you both for the wonderful people you were, and the Angels you are.

  Chapter 1

  Muslim Holocaust? No!

  20 May 1600 hours

  1600 Penn. Ave.

  DC

General Levi Levins, Commanding General of the Armed Forces of The Republic of America (ROA) sat in the Oval Office of the old United States White House. Sitting there, at the desk of the U.S. President he pondered the fate of any new nation that found itself confronted by an Islamic Caliphate Army; an Army that could conceivably field as many as two-hundred thousand fighters. The total forces of the ROA consisted of slightly more than one thousand five hundred.

Levi’s adopted daughter, Katie, lay sleeping on the office couch. Seeing her lost in dreams drew his thoughts to her future. Right now it certainly did not look like her adult life would consist of a cottage with a white picket fence and family. No, it looked like her life would continue to revolve around what Levi thought could be a long, long war.

Levi would like to send her back to Defiance, only he knew she wouldn’t go, and if he forced her, she would come right back at her first opportunity. Katie had sworn not to leave Levi’s side until she was ready to face this new world; still, six weeks from her fourteenth birthday and she was already the best Sniper Levi had ever seen.

How had she progressed so rapidly in the skills of a warrior? Had these things come about because of the new normal, or could it be because she would never again allow the horrible things she had been forced to endure in the first four months following the collapse? Yes, it’s something I think she and I need to talk about, thought Levi.

Kate didn’t look fourteen, and certainly no longer acted like a petulant teenager. As she had become accustomed to a life without the brutal assaults of evil men, her demeanor had begun to rapidly develop into something greater than her individual parts. She had come into Levi’s life as a frightened, distrustful and angry fighter. Yet, she and Levi had bonded as father and daughter within the first few hours of her rescue.

She had gained weight and filled out in all the right places over the last year, and now, she no longer had even a meager appearance of that scrappy girl.

As Levi thought about her transition, he realized that it was not only her appearance and demeanor, but her language, attitude, and above all, her maturity, coupled with the ability to learn to the nth degree whatever was presented; yes, Kate had grown; exponentially. She was no longer that angry little girl; she was now, without question, a very capable young woman.

Kate’s love and loyalty to Levi knew no bounds, and though her boundaries were rapidly expanding, in his eyes she would always be her Daddy’s girl.

  Beheadings

  20 May 1800 hours

  1600 Penn. Ave.

  DC

Levi directed his best friend and XO, Colonel Gus Murtaugh to send out a mission to capture the Supreme Leader of the DC Caliphate Forces. He, and an unknown number of his staff had escaped in the final moments of the battle for DC. Those soldiers of the Caliphate that he had deserted now lay dead; to the last man.

While inspecting the White House grounds, an underground parking garage was discovered that held the bones of several thousand beheaded Christians and Jews. Clothing scraps showed Priests, Nuns, Pastors, and Clergy, all appearing to be Christians or Jews. The severed heads were placed in a separate pile on the northern side of the garage.

Levi turned to Gus with a look of horror and disgust, saying, “No! This must end. I cannot bring myself to believe that only the Radical Wing of Islam would condone this murderous behavior. No normal Human Being could approve of something like this.

Gus, we must put an end to those who could do this, anyone, anywhere, and of any faith.

I know, I know, sometimes I speak resulting from my raw emotion, and I am in this instance, but this time raw emotion speaks an unalterable truth. Radical Islam and its adherents must die!”

“Levi,” said a somber, Gus, “we must fight, and win, this war.”

Initially, Levi had decided to allow this Ruhollah Majid to escape to tell his superiors of the huge army that had destroyed all of the eight-hundred Soldier’s of Islam in DC. Levi had hoped this tactic might instill fear into the ranks of the Caliphate fighters, but after finding the crucified bodies of Pastors outside of the burned down remains of their Churches, coupled with the bones of so many thousands of Christians and Jews, he had ordered Gus to find and capture this Majid. This Majid, who would pay for hi
s crimes against humanity.

  21 May 0400

  I-395

  DC

SSgt. Pete Woolery had been charged with the apprehension of this Caliphate Bigwig. A twelve man posse accompanied Woolery. Each man had seen the ossuary (bone repository) holding the remains of thousands of fellow Americans, Clergy who refused to convert or submit, to Islam.

Woolery had released one of the Wasp drones in search of any moving vehicles heading out of DC. It hadn’t taken long for the Wasp to find its prey, only two miles ahead and moving very slowly.

He estimated that since his Horse Cavalry could better negotiate the highways, the posse would close with these cowards in less than an hour. It took only forty minutes to identify the black 1949 Ford pickup, weaving among the graveyard of dead cars.

Using the wooded areas on each side of the road as cover, the posse was able to get just ahead of the pickup to prepare an ambush. Troopers of the ROA’s 1st Cavalry Regiment concealed themselves among the dead vehicles on either side of the highway.

The Caliphate truck could only travel between the ROA Troopers. Once the vehicle reached a position allowing the attack, one trooper fired a shot into the right front tire of the lead vehicle which forced both cars to stop. Orders were then shouted, demanding the personnel in the vehicles to surrender. At this point, each man of the ROA fired one round into the air to indicate the overwhelming firepower of the ROA Force.

Immediately the vehicle’s right window was rolled down, and a voice from within agreed to a surrender.

After replacing the flat tire, the occupants of the truck were secured, and a trooper drove the vehicle, escorted by the ROA posse back to DC, and to Levi.

  A Military Tribunal

  21 May 0700

  Oval Office, WH

  DC

Ruhollah Abdul Majid was ushered into the Oval Office in chains, binding his hands and feet closely together. The Oval Office, where Levi sat, and had prayed that this Majid character would not escape justice, became a courtroom.

Majid was terrified, but tried to look dignified and terribly put upon. “How dare you treat the Messenger of Allah, may his name be praised, in such a shameful manner. Release me at once and then bow down and accept the faith and love of Islam, the religion of peace, Allahu Akbar.

Levi slowly raised his head and looked Majid in the eye before saying, “Majid, you are an animal, and at the very least a mass murderer. You are not here to preach to me or anyone else. You are on trial for the murder of thousands of Christians and Jews. How do you plead?”

“How do I plead?” shouted Majid, “You have no authority over me or any member of the Caliphate. We are subject only to Sharia Law; now release me, immediately.”

Levi’s eyes, which now became cold, gray, steel caused sweat to trickle down Majid’s spine. Levi said, “Since you have no defense to put forth for the consideration by this Military Tribunal, I, General Levi Levins, Colonel Augustus Murtaugh, Lt. Colonel Leon Pickett, Captain Neal Page, and Sgt. Major Bradley Cobb will indicate their vote.”

Levi asked each member of the Tribunal to declare their finding of guilt or innocence. Each member reported a verdict of guilty upon the defendant Abdul Majid.

General Levins then said to the defendant, “Majid, the voting members of this court have recommended that I pronounce a judgment of guilty in this case. As I am in complete agreement, I do hereby add my finding of guilty to the other members of this Tribunal and sentence you to death for the crime of the murder of thousands of fellow human beings.

Majid, you will be taken to an overpass of the I-395 north of DC, and there you will be hanged by the neck until you are dead. My only regret is that I cannot have you hanged once for each of the persons you murdered.”

Majid began to beg, “But, but, I did not murder anyone. I was completely unaware of any such crime.”

Majid, will you become a convert to the Jewish Faith, if it would save your miserable life, and will you renounce Islam by destroying your Quran?”

Majid began frantically nodding his head and dropping to his knees; he said, “I have never believed in Islam or the Quran. I was forced by my family to become a Cleric. I spit on the Quran and eagerly will become a Zionist. Please, I humbly beg you to spare my life; I do not deserve to die.”

Well, Majid, I would guess Allah is none too happy with you right now, but you will be able to make your case to him for forgiveness very soon.

“SSgt. Simms, gag the prisoner and place him, under guard in the center of the skulls which have been unceremoniously thrown into the parking garage. He is to remain there, under guard to consider his sins, until dawn, tomorrow. At that time, the sentence is to be carried out.”

As Majid was now gagged, he could only offer muffled pleas for mercy; pleas that would fall upon deaf ears.

“General, we have two more prisoners for the Tribunal’s consideration; a General Al-Rahman, and a Private Sayed. Would you like to reconvene for their trials or wait until after lunch?” asked Colonel Murtaugh.

Levi received nods from the other members of the Court before saying, “Bring them both in and let’s get this over with.”

“Yes, sir; Sergeant Grant, bring in Al Rahman.”

The finding for Al-Rahman was a duplicate of Majid’s, guilty with a sentence of death. He was placed in the center of the bones of the bodies of murdered Christians and Jews.

The young Private, however, could not be tied to any specific crime, causing the Court to refrain from prosecuting him. The young man said he was eighteen years of age and had been drafted into the Army of the Caliphate.

Levi asked him about his allegiance to Islam, and the man told them that he and his friends had secretly asked, “If Allah was truly God, why did his Islamic Armies keep losing wars to non-Muslims?” He also said that there were many thousands of draftees who, like himself, had only followed Islam because of their father’s insistence.

“Sayed,” asked Gus, “where were you born?”

“I was born in Cleveland, sir.”

  “What is your first name?”

  “Ali.”

“Tell me, Ali, how do we know that you are not lying to us to save your life?”

Ali had already accepted the fact that he would soon be executed and said, “You don’t; the Quran even tells us that lying to the Infidel is acceptable to Allah.”

“Tell me, Ali,” asked Levi; what do you think will happen to you now?”

Ali looked at the ground and said, “Sir, I expect to be executed, and, if I may, I would prefer taking a bullet to the back of the head rather than being hung.

Sir, I have seen the horrors committed upon the Christians and Jews but did nothing to try to prevent them, though I do not have a clue what I could have done beyond being murdered myself.

Please, I beg you to get it over with. I am becoming very afraid and nervous.”

Sergeant Grant was ordered to take the prisoner into the corridor and wait there.

Levi looked around to each face and finally said, “I know, I may be a fool, but I believe him, and if he is telling the truth he could provide us with a wealth of invaluable information about this Caliphate; opinions, please.”

Gus agreed with Levi, as did everyone in the room, including the Sgt. Major. The consensus was to gather what information he had, and either let him go or enlist him as an interpreter.

Gus opened the door and directed the prisoner be brought back into the courtroom.

When the guard had returned to his post, Levi looked at Sayed and said, “Son, are you willing to share what you know about the Caliphate in return for your life?”

“Yes, of course; I have no love for those religious fanatics. Sir, I must also remind you that I have confessed my crime of not trying to help all those people who were so horribly murdered. I would like to make this deal; not for my life, but I will agree to assist you in any way I can, and I will accept your judgment after I have told you all that I know. I make
no demands for my continued existence.”

Gus said, “Son, that’s pretty fatalistic for someone who is only eighteen; are you trying to con us?”

Ali continued in the same monotonic voice saying, “Of course I am frightened, but I no longer care about my life. You do not have to ask me to denounce Islam; I did that in my heart long ago. So, what do you want to know?”

“Ali, I thank you for your openness and your willingness to help defeat the Caliphate, but you should know that it is our goal to eradicate this religious cult from the American continent. Are you still willing to help?”

“Yes,” said Ali in a flat and simple voice.

Levi said, “All right, then we will provide quarters for you for tonight, and Colonel Murtaugh will begin your debriefing this afternoon.”

Sergeant Grant, who had heard all of the exchange offered to provide space for Ali in his tent, and together they were dismissed, only after Sergeant Grant was ordered to ensure that Ali was to be secured by a short chain stretching from his ankle to a tent pole.

“Whoa,” said Levi, “either we have found a golden nugget or one of the best liars I have ever heard. For now, I’m going with the golden nugget. If we find him to be truthful, we may have found our way around killing them all, and that pleases me. I know, earlier I said I would consider committing genocide, but that was just raw emotion talking. If we can rescue, or liberate the non-combatants, and allow them to convert to anything other than Islam, then we may accomplish our goals and avoid going down in history for causing a holocaust.”
