We both stared down at the baby and I couldn't take my eyes from him. That was my son. We'd created him together. I never thought I would get to see that, not in the way we were able to do it. Together. Just the two of us.
"Are we keeping the names we picked out?" Jacob asked as he finally glanced up at me and smiled.
"Riley for a boy," I nodded. "I've always loved that name."
"I love it too." Jacob smiled down at our son. "Welcome home, little Riley. Ah, you're so beautiful." Jacob yawned softly and his eyelids fluttered. "I'm so sleepy."
"That's okay," Elenore whispered. "Let us finish up and get him cleaned and you can rest."
"Thank you. Both of you." I took Riley and stared down at him for a while, before I turned and reluctantly handed him over. I waited nervously and bounced my knee up and down as I held Jacob's hand. Elias finished up quickly and passed Riley back to me. I held him in my arms, and he calmed down immediately. "There you are. I'm always going to protect you, little one."
Elias smiled at me. "We'll leave you guys alone. If you need anything just call us and we'll be right here."
"Thank you." I grinned at Elias and his mother. "I just want to sit here for a while."
They nodded and headed out while I smiled down at Riley. His fingers waved and flexed as he gurgled, and his eyes moved around. He was beautiful. That dark-blond hair and stunning brown eyes were so much like Jacob’s. I could stare at him forever and be perfectly content.
I glanced up at Jacob's soft snoring. Poor baby. He was so exhausted, and I couldn't blame him. After an event like that I would have been worn out too.
"Good job, baby. I love you." I climbed into bed beside him and rocked and cooed at Riley happily.
I picked Riley up out of his bassinet and he cooed at me. He was such a good baby, barely even crying most times, unless he was hungry. Right now, he was happy. Jacob had already fed him, and it was my turn to change and dress him for the day.
"I'm starving." Jacob walked over and handed me a bright yellow onesie and some socks to match. "This little one is sapping all of my energy. Little vampire."
I laughed and then paused. "Wait? Vampires? Are they real?"
Jacob burst into laughter. "No way! That's just a myth.”
"You said the same about werewolves and look at us now," I slipped the onesie onto Riley and admired how good I was getting at dressing a tiny, wiggling babe. "Someone's already cooking. I can smell it."
Jacob kissed my arm. "I think you're enjoying those shifter senses."
"They definitely come in handy." I pulled Jacob close and kissed him before I quickly went back to Riley. I pulled on his socks and finally picked him up. "There you go, all better."
"He's so perfect!" Jacob cooed at the boy and stroked his back and arms. "How did we make something so perfect?"
"That's all you." I leaned down and captured Jacob's lips. We stayed there, lingering until Riley began to squirm. "Okay, okay, we'll stop," I laughed.
Knock. Knock.
I glanced up. "Come in."
Dom popped his head into the room. "If you don't mind, I need to borrow Jacob. Immediately."
I frowned. "What about?"
"It's… uh," he pressed his lips together and shook his head. "It's just better if I show you. Come on, Jacob."
I followed behind them worried. Why would Dom be pulling Jacob away from me without giving an explanation? Of course, I trusted him, but I was still curious and worried. Jacob was my mate after all. Since he didn't say not to tag along, I followed behind them, down the stairs and into a living room.
A young man stood up from the couch. His belly was round and stretched the t-shirt that he wore. It wasn't huge, but it was clear that he was pregnant. Even without seeing his belly it was clear he was pregnant just by his smell. He held the hand of a small boy who couldn't be more than three or four.
I glanced at Dom. "What's going on?"
"Rory." I glanced at Jacob. He stared at the man with watering eyes. "Rory," Jacob repeated and closed the space between them quickly before he wrapped his arms around him.
My wolf bristled, but I told him to relax. "What's going on?" I asked again, this time to Jacob. "Who is this?"
"It's my brother." His voice was muffled as he held onto his sibling.
A brother. I hadn't even known he had any. When Jacob stepped back, he swiped at his eyes and wiped away some of his tears. He held his brother's free hand, but the man didn't move or speak.
"Why didn't you tell me you had a brother?" I asked softly.
Jacob shook his head. "I couldn't. Every time I tried to talk about Rory, I was so close to falling apart that I just couldn't do it." He turned to his brother and smiled, his eyes brimming with tears. "How are you here?"
"I left," Rory finally muttered. "When Allister came back he got really drunk and passed out. Everyone else was recovering from their fight and I took Joseph and ran. I followed your scent back here."
Jacob wrapped his arms around his brother again. "I'm so glad you're okay. I worried about you every single day. I wanted to go back for you—"
Rory shook his head. "I told you to leave for a reason, Jacob. There was nothing that you could do." He glanced over at Dom. "Is it really alright if I stay here?"
Dom nodded. "You're Jacob's family. Of course, you're more than welcome here."
"Thank you." Rory glanced down at Jacob who clung to him before his eyes flickered up to me.
"I’m Leo, Jacob's mate."
His eyes widened and he glanced down at Riley. "Then is that?"
Jacob beamed proudly. "That's our pup. Riley. I thought about you when we picked the name out."
"I love it," Riley smiled softly. "Can I hold him?"
I passed Riley over to him and he let go of Joseph. The boy immediately shoved his fist into his mouth and sucked on it. Rory smiled down at our baby.
"He's perfect."
"I'm heading out to grab some stuff for the house," Gray called as he walked into the room. "Does anyone need to add anything to the list?"
When he looked up, his eyes fixed on Rory. I watched as his nostrils flared and the notepad he held dropped to the floor. We all stared at him until Dom cleared his throat and he seemed to wake up again. He quickly grabbed his notepad and shoved it into his back pocket.
"Gray, this is Rory," Dom waved a hand to him. "Jacob's brother. He needs a room. Do you think you can take care of that."
"Of course, boss," Graysen muttered, his eyes not leaving Rory. Finally, he looked at the small boy with him and smiled. "Why don't you two follow me? I'll get you settled."
Rory nodded, but went back to being quiet. He passed Riley to Jacob and rubbed a hand over his belly. Jacob frowned as he watched him leave with Graysen.
"I can't believe he's really here." He shook his head. "I feel so much better now."
I pulled Jacob into my arms and hugged him. He sniffled lightly and my heart clenched tightly. Suddenly, Riley cooed between the two of us. We both moved back and laughed hard.
"Everything is falling into place," I reached over and caressed Jacob's cheek. "Don't you think?"
"I know it is." He lit up and kissed me back as my lips brushed his. "Thank Goddess for that."

Skye R. Richmond
Since she was a little girl, Skye R. Richmond entertained herself with any book she could get her hands on. She has written for as long as she can remember, and now she finally gets to share some of those stories with other people.
She loves a good happily ever after because she believes love and light should touch everything. She is an obsessive reader and would never have considered writing if it wasn’t for all the authors who inspired her and the thousands of books she has devoured along the way.
When she’s not reading she’s caught up in all her guilty pleasure TV Shows. Or catching up with her sibs wherever they are in the world, which usually involves long distance calling. She’s an introvert who will take a night in before anything else.
Made in Nigeria and Raised in the UK she’s an interesting mix of both cultures and appreciates both equally.
