I don’t miss the way Faye’s face falls and her fist clenches when she incorrectly assumes that’s the only reason I’m here. The caveman side of me roars in triumph at the subtle signs of her jealousy, but my other side – the softer side of me – wins out in the end.
“Come here, my Faye,” I rasp, pulling her into my arms. “I didn’t have a date with, Jessie, or any other girl for that matter. You know I don’t date, so whoever told you that is full of shit.”
Faye takes a shuddering breath as her body relaxes, giving me more of her slight weight.
“How was I to know you didn’t change your mind? Jessie has asked you out more than a hundred times, and that’s just this year alone. I figured that maybe you reconsidered her very generous offers to service you wherever and however you want. Oh, and Drake did say that he saw you two getting hot and heavy behind the practice fields the other day.”
Fuck, I hate the gossiping bitches at school. They need to learn how to keep their goddamn mouths shut around my girl. Add to that, Drake, one of my best friends and our bands’ rhythm guitarist is going to get his ass kicked for telling his sister about that shit. Drake is acutely aware of how I feel about Faye, and although he isn’t happy about it, he’s never done anything that would drive a wedge between me and my girl before. Until now that is.
It’s not a secret that I like girls and that I like them a lot. How they smell. How they taste. Their bodies and what they can do with them. I like it all. But the rules are simple. If I fuck you it’s a one-time only deal; you don’t share that I’ve had my cock’s inside you with your friends, and under no circumstances do you ever tell Faye the details of what you and I have done.
Shaking my head to rid myself of some of the anger I have toward Jessie and Drake, I stroke Faye’s back trying to calm my ass down. Her midnight black hair that shimmers blue in just the right light feels like silk as it slips through my fingers, and I have to stop myself from tugging it so I can have access to the smooth column of her throat. I want to taste her so badly my fucking hands tremble.
My lips find her temple as I say,
“I don’t know exactly what Drake told you, but your brother’s an asshole. I’m not with Jessie, Faye. Never have been and never will be. And you know why that is, don’t you, babe?” When Faye nods her head against my chest, I prompt, “Tell me. Tell me why those other girls don’t matter, why I don’t date.”
It takes her a minute, but finally I hear Faye whisper the words I’ve drummed into her head since she was old enough to repeat them to me.
“Because you only have room for one girl in your heart and that spot has already been filled.”
Holding Faye in my arms with her head resting over my heart, I decided that I’m going to have to summon up the courage and admit the depth of my feelings for her. Things can’t go on like this. We can’t go on like this. I need to move our friendship to the next level, sooner rather than later, because I can’t risk someone coming in and sweeping her off her feet before I do.
I spot Knight leaning against the doorframe looking at us. His face is pensive, but there’s no anger there or, at least, not that I can see. Locking eyes with Knight, I know what I’m doing when I speak next; I’m throwing down the gauntlet, telling him exactly what my intentions are with his daughter.
“That’s right, babe, it is,” I growl as my arms tighten around her. “Now tell me, who’s the only girl that will ever mean anything to me?”
“Me,” Faye sniffs, nuzzling deeper into my chest.
“Yeah, you. It’s only ever been you, my Faye.”
Knight gives me a sharp nod, which is all the confirmation I need that I’m making the right decision to move forward with Faye, not that I wouldn’t have anyway. It’s just nice to know that when the time comes to make her mine, I won’t have to worry about her dad killing me.
Taking a deep breath, I exhale slowly.
“You’re mine, Faye, and I’m yours.”

About the author
Wife of a workaholic, perfectionist, amusing and altogether too sexy husband. Mother of three, and let me tell you this is not easy seeing as they are sixteen, fourteen, and ten.
