“Happy birthday,” Destinee sang, and patted the seat next to her.
“I thought you forgot.” He sat down, facing her.
“Really, that’s the reason we’re all here. We wanted to celebrate your life.” She lifted her glass in the air. “To my favorite firefighter!” Everyone at the tables raised their flutes. “Thank you for your service, and for always finding your way back to me.”
“Always,” he said, also picking up a flute.
They all clinked their glasses together. “Hear, here!” Kirk took a sip. “So, big bro. How does it feel to be a father?”
He pushed his seat and gazed over at his son. “It feels…” he cleared his throat, “I can’t describe the feeling. It’s indescribable, knowing that I had a part in creating him.” Kyle placed his arm around the back of Destinee’s chair. “I couldn’t ask for a better birthday gift.”
Chapter Eleven
Day Seven—Last Day at Sea
“It was so nice of your mother to invite me to share this vacation with you.” They strolled, with their hands entwined together, down the hall to their rooms.
“You know she had ulterior motives.” He smirked. “Mom wanted Kyler all to herself while we got our shit together.”
She squeezed his fingers. “I don’t think we have our shit together just yet.” Destinee stopped walking.
“I thought we did?” He raised one eyebrow. “Are you having second thoughts about us?”
She didn’t answer, and continued walking.
“Then what’s wrong? There’s nothing holding you back in Missouri.” He followed her. “You said you were unemployed and I know Mercy Hospital would take you back in the blink of an eye.” Kyle was getting nervous that she was trying to back out.
“I made that up.” She searched her purse and pulled out her room key. “You know I love what I do. I’m working at a clinic near my parents’ home. They wouldn’t have let me stay under their roof without a job.”
He stopped her from opening her room. “What are you saying. You’re staying in Missouri with Kyler?” He pulled out his room card. “Tesoro, I need you back with me in our home. I need to see my son grow up, hear his first words, see his first steps. Please don’t deny me that. I know you think I’m compromising, but believe me I’m not.” He wasn’t used to begging for shit, but Kyle would beg his ass off, if he had to. “This gift you gave me has changed my whole outlook on life. I love you, woman.” He cupped her face with his hands. “Please, fucking come back home.”
Destinee chuckled. “You were doing so well until you cussed.” She rose to her tiptoes and gave him a feathery kiss on his lips. “I’m coming home with you.” She clasped her fingers behind his neck. “When I said are you sure we really got our shit together…I was talking about making love.” Her right hand traveled down his chest, then lower, and gently groped his manhood. “I couldn’t make love to you until you knew the truth.”
“What’s stopping us now?” Kyle wrapped his hands around her hips.
“Nothing,” she whispered against his lips. Destinee went to slip her card in the slot and he took it from her.
“My room.” Kyle opened his cabin door. “Females first.”
Destinee stepped over the threshold and covered her mouth. There were little dinner lights all over the room, with a bottle of champagne and chocolate-covered strawberries on the table. Red rose pedals were spread atop the bed. “Kyle…”
He walked up behind her. “The honeymoon we never had.” kissed the side of her neck, down to her collarbone. “Tesoro, I’ve missed you.” Kyle slipped her dress off her shoulders. “I missed everything about you.” He gently nibbled on her neck. “I would call your cell phone just to hear your voice, and then hang up.”
“That was you?” She moaned, pulling the dress down to her ankles.
“Yes.” Kyle unsnapped her bra with his fingers, letting it fall to the floor, and began playing with her hardening nipples. Pinching and pulling, he inched forward, grinding his manhood against her ass. “You want nice and slow?”
“Yes,” she moaned, covering his hand with hers as he continued to play with her breast. “I need you inside of me.”
Kyle released her, and rapidly took off his clothes, throwing them to the side. “Your wish is always my command.” He lay on the bed with his arms behind his head as she took of her panties. Destinee still took his breath away, after all the years they’d been together. Her brown skin was radiant, and he noticed something different about her. She had a dark scar above her shaved pussy. “You had a C-section?” he asked, surprised.
Destinee traced the scar with her index finger. “He didn’t cooperate with the doctors. Kyler was worth this tiny scar.”
His dick was hard as a rock, pointed straight up with a slight curve. “Sorry I wasn’t there.”
Destinee climbed up on the bed. “You’re here now.”
He caressed her stomach, wishing he could turn back the hands of time. No regrets, he said to himself, just lessons learned.
She kissed him, sucking on his bottom lip, kissing her way down. Destinee circled her tongue around his pink nipples, and traced her tongue over the ridges of his abs. She smiled as she started to stroke his cock with her soft hands.
“You’re in control,” he said, taking a deep breath.
She bowed her head and kissed the head of his cock, then licked it. Dee bobbed her head up and down and then added her fingers, twisting them as she took him farther in her mouth.
“Fuck!” Kyle groaned deep in his throat from the sensation she was causing, every time she did the butterfly effect, with her tongue and cheeks. She gazed up, smiling around his rod. “Fuck, that feels…” In a sudden move, he picked her up by the waist, then lay them both back down, easing her over his face. Kyle didn’t hold back. He began devouring her pussy. He slurped and licked, kissing on her clitoris and labia.
“Oh God!” Destinee screamed and moaned. “Yes, I’m coming!” Her legs started shaking, locking his head between her thighs, but that didn’t stop him. Kyle was on a mission to make her pass out from pleasure. He savored her juices, tasting so sweet.
Kyle chuckled as he picked up her limp body to rest upon his. Dee’s eyes were still closed as she gasped for air. “Tesoro, open your eyes.”
Her eyes fluttered open, filled with desire.
Kyle slowly guided his cock to her entrance. “All mine.” He smiled, and then gritted his teeth as she slowly took him, inch by inch.
Destinee gasped as he started thrusting into her core. Her chest heaved up and down while she rotated her hips, moving to the same rhythm as Kyle. His hands molded her breasts as she bent down. He took her nipple in his mouth and gently sucked. “Hmmm,” he grunted as he thrust upward.
“Yes.!” She arched her back, and her eyes rolled to the back of her head. Destinee’s pussy clamped down on his cock, starting to pulse. She was close to coming. His movements became erratic. Dee ground her hips down as he thrust up, his grip on her waist getting tighter.
“Come!” he groaned.
“Oh, shit!” She fell on his chest, punching the mattress as her pussy contracted around his cock, taking him over the edge.
“Fuck, I’m coming!” He gave her everything he had left, making the bed shake and the headboard bang against the wall.
They both laid in the same position without moving a muscle, trying to regain their breath and strength. It felt like no time had elapsed between them. This was his home, his life. Kyle kissed her forehead.
Destinee leaned up, staring at him. “It was fun while it lasted.”
“I enjoyed every minute, wining and dining you.” He grabbed the bowl of strawberries. “Destinee, a.k.a. Dee.”
She chuckled and Kyle picked up a chocolate-covered strawberry and fed it to her. Destinee took a bite. “That’s delicious. The chocolate isn’t too sweet.”
Kyle kissed her lips and gently nibbled on her lower lip. “Your chocolate candy is.” He pinched on of her nipples.
“Let’s enjoy our last night.”
“Come on.” She sat up and placed her feet on the floor, then grabbed a white robe, and handed Kyle one, too.
“Where to?” He took the cotton robe from her and stood, slipping it on. Destinee walked over to the sliding doors, and pulled them open, stepping out with Kyle right behind her.
Destinee glanced at the sky. “Wishes do come true.”
“Te amo, Dee.” Kyle wrapped his arms around her waist, and kissed the back of her neck. “Thanks for being my vacation love.”
“Anytime.” Destinee pointed at a shooting star. “Make a wish.”
“All my wishes came true the day I met you,” Kyle whispered in her ear. “Mi tesoro…” He sat in the lounge chair, and she eased into his lap as the night disappeared into a breathtaking sunrise in each other’s arms.
This vacation had turned out differently than he’d thought it would. Instead of forgetting the past, he now saw his future.
Epilogue
Two years later
“One, two, three…say ‘cheese’!” The wedding photographer snapped a picture of the Johnston boys.
Kyle, Kirk, and their father Victor were on the left, and their cousins Matt, Andrew, and their father Javier Johnston stood on the right. They all wore black designer tuxes and had two things in common—they were all over six feet tall and they all had piercing, green eyes. Watching them was like admiring the centerfold of a glamour magazine. From the two silver foxes to the younger generation, they were all mouth-dropping gorgeous.
In a long, flowing white dress, Victoria stood between the Johnston boys, beaming. Being the only girl growing up with the boys, she was beyond spoiled, especially by her dad and her brothers. They’d paid for the whole wedding, from the ceremony at one of the historical Catholic churches in Puerto Rico, to the reception at an exclusive, five-star hotel hidden in the heart of paradise. Angel wrapped his arms around his stunning bride. Dee had never seen her sister-in-law so happy. Her green irises shone with unshed tears as she stared at the men in her family.
“I told you we would all make it to PR, Dad.” Kirk smiled. He placed his arm over his dad’s shoulder, and then looked over at his uncle. “Uncle, how does it feel to be back?”
“It has been great,” his uncle answered. “We went to visit the house our parents lived in, before they moved to the States. You should’ve joined us.”
“I wanted to go, but Nicole wasn’t feeling up to it,” Kirk said.
“A lot of memories,” his dad softly added. “We couldn’t wait until summer to come visit our grandparents.”
Kyle listened to his dad and uncle reminisce about their past, about when they were kids, and he, too, started reminiscing about his childhood, and smiled. He couldn’t believe he hadn’t wanted kids. He hoped his son would look up to him, like he did his own dad.
Kyler ran up to him. “Papa!” The boy grinned, looking up at Kyle. “I want cake!” He pointed at the four-layer wedding cake. “Mommy say no.” He pouted his full lips.
Kyle lovingly gazed at his son. He was a mini version of himself. Destinee hadn’t won in the gene department, that time around. The only thing his son had of his wife was her lips and complexion. “Okay…if mommy said no, what does that mean?” It was hard for Kyle to say no to his son, but he wasn’t going a raise a spoiled kid.
“No.” he wiped his eyes. “Later?”
Kyle combed his fingers through his son’s shaggy, curly hair. “Yes, mommy will get you some.”
His frown turned into a grin. “Okay.”
“Johnston family picture,” the photographer yelled. “Grandparents, parents, siblings, wives, and children.”
The Johnston clan stayed in position as the others were told where to stand. “Papa!” Kyler pulled on Kyle’s pants. “Up, please.”
Kyle picked him up and kissed his cheek. “Are you having fun with your cousins?”
“Yes.” He giggled.
Kyle wrapped his free arm around Destinee’s waist. “Did I tell you how delicious you look?”
“Yes, many times.” She chuckled. Dee wore a strapless ivory dress that stopped at her knees, with flat sandals. “But I don’t mind you repeating it.”
“You look stunning.” Kyle kissed her forehead. “I wonder why?”
“Stunning mommy.” Kyler touched her cheek with his fingers. “My mommy is beautiful.”
“Aww, thank you, baby.” She kissed his hand.
Kyle glanced around and his heart swelled. Kirk had Nicole encircled in a sensual embrace. Andrew was laughing out loud at something his wife Sherry said as they held on to their twins, Nate and Natalie. Matt and his wife Shannon had been through so much, especially her battle with breast cancer, but here they were, gazing into each other’s eyes, with their son Matthew and daughter Makayla standing between them. His mother stood in the middle, beaming with joy as his father and his wife Carmen held hands, and his Uncle Javier and his wife Maria did the same. Victoria and Angel sat in the middle of the Johnston clan. This was what having a family was all about: the memories, the laughter.
Kyle wasn’t the same young man who’d married years ago: he’d grown up and changed his way of thinking. He wanted more out of life. He even wanted another baby.
“Say ‘cheese’!” The photographer took a bunch of snaps with different poses.
“Cheese!” Kyler grinned, showing off his pearly whites.
“Done! Now the Hernandez family,” the man said. “Newlyweds, please follow me.”
Kyle was the first to move from his pose, and placed their son on the ground. “Have fun!” His little boy ran with the other kids. He stopped his sister, kissing her on the forehead. “If he fucks up, I’m just a call away.”
Victoria threw her hands around him, hugging him tight. “Thank you for being the best big brother in the world.”
“Hold up,” Kirk said, walking up to his siblings. “Then what am I?”
Victoria smiled. “The best middle brother in the world.,” She hugged her brothers.
His mother strolled up with a flute of champagne in her hand. “Here’s to my amazing children.” She lifted her glass in the air and took a sip. “I did good.” Tears rolled down her cheeks.
“We did good.” His dad walked up, with his cane. “I’m so proud of each one of you.”
“Kirk, Victoria,” their mom said, looking at his siblings. “I want more grandkids.”
“Victoria,” Angel called.
“Saved by the bell. More pictures!” Victoria rushed to meet him.
“You’re not going to beg me for more grandkids?” Kyle asked, taking a sip of his drink.
“I didn’t think you wanted…” His mom stopped herself as she looked back and forth, between Destinee and Kyle. “Is there something you need to tell me?”
Kirk chuckled, looking at his mother.
Kyle stood behind Dee, and wrapped his arms around her waist. “We’re having a baby.”
His mom screamed, staring at his hand. “You’re pregnant!” All the other guests stared at the commotion.
Dee nodded her head, and smiled. “Yes!”
“Congratulations!” She jumped into Dee’s arms, while his dad gave Kyle a bear hug. “You see, I told you he would come around,” she whispered in Dee’s ear and then cupped her face. “Thank you for giving him a chance to prove himself.”
Tears rolled down Dee’s cheeks, and she embraced her mother-in-law. “If it wasn’t for you, we would probably be divorced. Thank you,” she whispered back.
“Kirk has something to share, too.” Kyle winked at his brother.
“Nicole is pregnant?” his mother asked, excited. “Please say yes.”
“No!” He laughed. “Kyle’s pulling your leg.”
“I’m pregnant!” Nicole blurted out, walking over. “We’re having a baby!”
Kirk’s expression was priceless. His eyes widen as his jaw dropped. “What?” he mumbled.
“We’re pregnant, honey!” She gazed at
him.
“I’m having a baby?” Kirk’s eyes shone.
“Well, I’m having the baby.” Nicole chuckled.
Kirk grabbed her and lifted her up. “I’m having a baby.”
“Best news.” His mom wiped her eyes. “I love being a grandmother.” She watched as Kyler ran over.
“Abuela!” Kyler pulled on Dawn’s dress. “Dance with me.”
Dawn took his hand in hers and swayed over to the dance floor.
Destinee congratulated Kirk and Nicole.
“Stop!” Makayla, Matt’s five-year-old daughter, screamed as Andrew’s twins threw sand in her hair.
“I’ll be back.” Kyle shook his head and walked over to the kids, thanking God that Kyler was a good kid. “Nate, stop throwing sand in your cousin’s hair.” He couldn’t help but smile, remembering when they’d all been younger. Andrew and Matt had gone through a lot in their youngest years, growing up without a mother, but whenever they visited for a couple of days, Kyle’s mother tried to fill the void.
Natalie laughed. “It’s funny.”
“No, it isn’t. Mommy’s going to be mad.” Makayla dusted her curls with her fingers. “Cousin Kyle, where’s my mommy?”
Shannon, Matt’s wife, was talking to her sister, Sherry. “She’s right over there.” He pointed, and she ran.
“Mommy, look what the twins did!” She gently pulled her hair.
“Sherry!” Shannon glared at her sister. “You’re washing her hair.”
“What happened now?” Sherry took a gulp of her drink.
“It’s okay, Sherry. I’ll let Andrew handle them. Go have fun.” Kyle grabbed Nate and Natalie and carried them over to their dad.
“Where are my kids?” Andrew watched as the other kids danced in the middle of the dance floor.
“Remember when you called my daughter the Tasmanian devil?” Matt chuckled. “I guess it’s your turn to experience the terrible twos. Your twins are off getting into some trouble.”
