“That is amazing, it is like a drug almost because what happened on this side of the trance. I have no recollection of it and it is probably best you were with me when I did it. “Who do you think the man was?” Now that she was calm, he seemed to be sticking on the one things that had her unsettled.
“I’m not sure, but he definitely spooked my mom. She snatched me up faster than any other time I remember. She usually just bribed me to leave happy. That time, she didn’t care if I wanted to leave or not. Then the man disappeared just as quickly.” Rubbing her own arms, she felt a ghostly chill run through her.
“Let’s get you something to drink. Another festival must-have, is our famous mead. We spend all year preparing it just for this holiday alone. The only time anyone is allowed to drink it is this time every year. He stopped at the next vendor with no line, “I need two glasses, please.” Turning back to Aggie, “Each vendor has this, that is how popular it is.” He paid the vendor again and handed Aggie her mug.
Taking her first sip, Aggie sighed, “This is perfect.” It was sweet and light and Mathius was right, just what she needed. “Ok, let’s keep going, I’m sure we still have lots to see.”
They walked what felt like miles, but Aggie didn’t complain once. It was the last thing she could think of when there was so much to see. They ate from the outdoor feast and Aggie tried many more things she wouldn’t have normally. Most she didn’t even remember the name of but it didn’t matter. As night approached fires were lit around the town. Not small torches, but complete bonfires, blazing high and lighting everything without any effort. They had their mugs filled every time they were emptied. Walking along Aggie felt a bit tipsy, but she burned it off quickly with their walking and she had plenty of food as they went along.
“This is my favorite part.” Mathius cryptically pointed toward the shoreline. The mountains off in the distance reflected from the firelight onto the water. “You have to come down by the water. You won’t regret this, I promise.” There were many already standing between them and the water, but they parted when they saw Mathius. He was a bit of a household name it seemed. He took her right to the edge of the lapping water and wrapped his arms around her waist from behind her.
The view was breathtaking and Aggie knew she wouldn’t soon forget this night. Then just as the bell chimed in town, signifying midnight, something leapt from the water. Aggie flinched but Mathius held her tightly. She looked closer and realized there were some sort of demons in the water. They were throwing something from the water toward the shore. Then she saw the first ones break the shoreline and a rainbow band of sorts started spinning quickly around one bystanders. Soon there were lights flying from every direction and more and more rainbows were spinning around. Then one came out and wrapped up Mathius and Aggie. She got lost in the colors that spun around them. Dizzy, she fell backwards and was thankful for Mathius’s embrace.

“Did I tell you the other most common thing during the festival?” Mathius and Aggie were walking back to the castle after taking in everything and then some of the town. Aggie glanced up at him, she clung to his arm as the roads were more difficult to travel at night. “Celebrations of fertility.” He dropped the words like a bomb and left them to sizzle.
“Now that sounds intriguing, considering I’m only just coming into my fertile years as I’ve been told. Why shouldn’t I celebrate them?” Aggie felt a sense of freedom with Mathius. Walking down the hallway, they got to Aggie’s room. “Did you know Liel had my room fixed back up to it’s original stature? I was so surprised, it was a thoughtful thing to do.
