“What are you talking about?” Mr. Dean narrows his eyes at Sean and is thinking that Sean is crazy.
“Kallos’ soul is standing next to her body, and in order for anything to work, she needs to be whole.” Sean doesn’t look away from Kallos' soul to answer him. Brooke starts to cry harder.
“Why can’t I see her?” Ian asks, and Sean is wondering the same thing. Since they are all soul mates, he should be able to see Kallos' soul.
“I don’t know, but does it matter right now?” Ian shakes his head, and Sean turns his attention back to Kallos. “Please, you need to get back inside. The longer you are out the less chance you have in getting back in.” She nods and walks over to her body. She looks at him for help. “Grab your hands.” Her soul and body both smile at him, which is a little creepy. He watches her soul grab each of her hands, and her body gasps. “Good, now lie down on top of your body.” This is the perfect image for Sean to remember, and the best part is that he isn't thinking of anyone but Kallos. “Just do it,” he said as he laughs. She shakes her head and lies on top of her body. He is amazed when her body sucks her soul into herself.
Kallos springs up, and Sean lightly holds her body down. “There you go; now, I can try to take your pain.” The pain is so intense that he knows that she wants to pass out. He closes his eyes and puts his hands on her bare skin. He can feel the pain slowly disappear from her, and she starts to breathe calmer. Sean opens his eyes and smiles at her, “There you go. Feeling better, I take it?”
“Yes, thank you,” she whispers, and Ian pokes his head around Sean. She gives him a smile, too.
“Are you sure you’re okay?” Ian is asking her, and she nods. Kallos knows that it would take a lot out of her to try to talk at this moment.
“I’ll get you some water, Sweetie.” She hears her mom say from somewhere behind Sean and Ian. “Come on, Honey; you can help me.” Kallos figures her mom is talking to her dad because she hears him grunt. Her door shuts softly behind him as they leave, and the three of them are alone. When she goes to sit up, both of them are there to help her. Each grabs an arm and helps her sit up. Ian’s color is paler than normal, and Sean looks like he always does except for the worried look on his face.
“I’m fine, so you can stop looking at me like that.” They both narrow their eyes at her and frown.
“The last time you had an attack you gained a power. We didn’t get any powers until we went through the full change. So we are wondering if you might have gained a new power.” Sean has a good point. She wonders if she can do anything else. “Your new power might be spirit walking.” Kallos looks up at him and knows that the confusion is showing on her face. “Babe, I saw you outside your body.”
“How did that happen?” She asks.
“I don’t know. That is something you need to talk to Aphrodite about,” Sean says and moves closer to her. “When we went through the change, we only had our gods to help us. And we didn’t know what to ask.”
“Okay, I will talk to her tonight.” Ian moves to my other side and grabs her hand. “I didn’t want to end our date like that.” Kallos smiles at him, and he shakes his head.
“I had other plans,” he grins, and she hears Sean clearing his throat.
“I’ll get your drink from your mom.” Sean walks away, and she knows he is giving them sometime alone. Ian sits on the edge of her bed and puts her hand in his lap.
“You know, I brought you to one of my favorite spots. “
“You did?” Ian nods.
“Yeah, and I have never brought anyone there before. No one knows about it, not even Sean.”
“Well, your secret is safe with me.” Sean smiles and brings Kallos’ hand to his lips. He kisses it gently.
“Sean is with you tonight, and then, if you are up to it, you two will have your date in the morning.” There is knocking at the door. “Come in.” Sean walks in carrying a glass of ice water. “Well I should let you get some rest.” He leans down and kisses her and it isn’t a light kiss. It is one of their deep kisses that always takes her breath away. He slowly pulls away and smiles down at her. She is shocked about how much they love her, and seeing it through Ian’s eyes makes her so happy. “Good night, my love.”
“Good night,” she whispers. Sean walks over to her and hands her the glass of water. She smiles at him and he smiles back.
“Thank you again for helping me.”
“You scared the crap out of me when I saw you standing next to your body.”
“I didn’t even know what I was doing. The last thing I knew was when you caught me and ran me up to my bedroom. Then, I wasn’t in my body anymore. I could see everything and still feel everything. It was so weird.”
“Well, you need to talk to Aphrodite, but we can talk later. Your parents will be up in a minute, and they are pretty freaked out about what happened. They were asking me questions about how you were outside of your body. I only told them a little because I didn’t want to scare them.” That is probably the best idea; her mom would freak out. Her dad walks in first, and her mom is holding his hand but comes in behind him.
“How are you feeling, Sweetie?” Mom asks.
“Better, Mom. I don’t hurt at least.” Which is a lie. Some of the pain returns to her chest, and she knows that Sean knows. He gives her the ‘you’re lying’ look. “I’m sorry that this keeps happening.”
“Oh, Sweetie, we knew that it would happen to you, but we never thought it would be like this. It’s just hard because we can’t do anything to help you.”
Her mom looks at Sean. “At least you have Sean and Ian to help.” She smiles at Sean, and he blushes.
“I love you Mom and Dad. Thank you for letting them stay and help.” Kallos doesn't want to know how things would be without them.
“We love you too, KD.” Her dad walks over to them. “Maybe you should stay home tomorrow.” She smiles because she knows that he isn't too happy about her dating.
“No, like I said, I am fine. I still want to go on my date with Sean.”
“Good,” her mom said. “Well, we should let you get some sleep.” She leans down and kisses Kallos' forehead. Then she moves away to let her dad say good night.
“Fine, good night.” He leans down and kisses the same spot her mom just did. He walks toward her mom, grabs her hand and they walk out together.
“Well, I am going to the bathroom to get into my pajamas. Do you want me to get your mom to help you change?”
“No, I can do it.” Sean grins at her and walks to the door.
“I’ll knock before I come back in. If you don’t answer, then I will take it that you are sleeping.” Then he walks out and shuts the door behind him. Kallos slowly gets up and walks over to grab some sweat pants. She doesn’t want to lift her arms, so she is sleeping in her tank top. She takes her pants over to her bed to put them on. Kallos doesn’t trust her legs to hold her up, yet, so sitting is her best option. She lies back on her bed and pulls her covers up. Sean knocks on the door.
“Come in, Sean.” He walks in holding his dirty clothes. His blankets are already on the couch, so he just lies down.
“You know I know you’re still hurting right?” Kallos looks at him and nods. She can’t keep anything from him.
“Yes, but its fine. I’m going to go to sleep so I can talk to Aphrodite.” He walks over to her and sits next to her.
“Okay, well good night,” he leans down and kisses her cheek. She grabs his hand as he is getting out of her bed, and laughs. “What, that wasn’t enough for you?” She shakes her head; being in love with two guys has it benefits. He leans in and kisses her hard. She wraps her arms around his neck to pull him closer. His kiss deepens, and she is the one who pulls away. “That was nice,” Sean teases. Kallos punches his shoulder, and he chuckles.
“It was only nice?”
“No, it was amazing. I love you, Kallos.” Every time she hears them tell her that they love her, it melts her heart.
“Incredible is t
he word I would use. And I love you too, Sean.” He leans in one more time to kiss her, but this one is quick. He walks over to the couch and makes his bed. She rolls over because she knows that she won’t get any sleep when she is staring at him. She closes her eyes and makes herself think about something other than Sean.
CHAPTER NINETEEN
It doesn’t take long for Kallos to end up in the garden. She looks around and doesn’t see anyone, but that doesn’t mean no one is around. She walks over to the pond and sits by the edge. The one thing she loves about this place is how quiet it is. This place is better than any dream she has ever had. But, she didn’t come here for the quiet; she is here for Aphrodite. She stands up and looks around one more time but doesn’t see anyone.
“Aphrodite, I need you!” Kallos yells for her goddess. The air changes and it gets cooler. Aphrodite instantly appears in front of her, wearing a gold shimmering dress that goes down pasts her feet. It has only one shoulder strap on her left shoulder. Her right arm has a gold sleeve wrapped around her whole arm. Her hair is done up in curls, and gold spirals cascading down her impeccable curls. Kallos still can’t believe that she is supposed to be her, in a way.
“Hello, my dear Kallos.” Aphrodite's voice reminds Kallos of a mother’s, caring and concerned at the same time.
“Hi, Aphrodite,” Kallos smiles at her.
“You had another attack today?” Kallos nods. “Tell me what happened.” Kallos tells her everything, how she was outside her body watching and how Sean was the only one to see her.
“So, Sean is the only one that could see you?”
“Yes, I was standing next to Ian, and he looked right past me.”
“That is strange; maybe one of Sean’s powers is that he is a ghost whisperer.” Now that is a little creepy. “And it seems that you did gain another power before your change. You can spirit travel.”
“What is spirit travel?” Kallos creases her eyebrows together.
“Come and sit, Kallos.” Aphrodite walks over to the grass by the roses and sits down. Kallos follows and sits next to her. She turns and faces Kallos, “Spirit traveling is where you can travel anywhere outside your body. You may be able to travel farther with time.”
“What else will happen to me? Why am I the only one that is getting powers before my change?”
“You are different, Kallos. You are going to be the only reincarnated me to survive the change.” Kallos looks down because she still may not make it. “You are the strongest one I have ever seen, so do not doubt yourself. I have faith in you; so does Apollo and Ares.”
“Do you know who my real parents were?” That has been bugging Kallos since she found out about her new life. Aphrodite looks over at the water.
“Yes, but are you sure you want to know?” Kallos isn't too sure if she does, but she likes having the option.
“Not now, but maybe some time.” Aphrodite looks at her and smiles.
“When you want to know, then I will tell you. And about what will happen next, I’m not sure. You may have your complete change or gain another new power. I just know that your change is coming soon, but I am not sure when it’s going to happen. I know that the boys aren’t taking your pain anymore.”
“Sean still is,” Kallos corrects her. Aphrodite's eyebrows go up in disbelief.
“He can take your pain and not Ian?” Kallos nods and Aphrodite smiles. “Well that is strange, but that doesn’t mean Ian isn’t your soul mate. It could just mean that Sean has stronger powers in healing than Ian. Have you thought about which one you are going to choose?”
“No, and I’m not going to think about it until I know them better. They may be my soul mates and I do love them, but I want to get to know them a little better. I want to make the right choice and not regret it for the rest of my life. I already know that I am going to hurt someone including myself. When I pick one over the other, it will break my heart, and whoever goes will always have a piece of me. The other one will know this too. I just can’t believe how complicated my life has gotten with them in my life, but I wouldn’t change a thing. I do love them both; they both have something to offer me.” Aphrodite's arms wrap around Kallos, and she hugs her tightly.
“I know, Kallos; I made this same decision many years ago. You are right. It will hurt you too, but at least you will have one of them. No matter whom you choose, just remember to follow your heart. Things might happen when you are mad at one and the other looks like an angel don’t choose then. Maybe at your graduation, you can choose then. It’s nice to give yourself and them a time limit.” Aphrodite was right; Kallos doesn’t want to carry it out forever. She wants to be with one and only one. Waiting until graduation gives her plenty of time to get to know them.
“Okay, when I graduate high school is when I will pick. That is plenty of time to get to know them.” Aphrodite smiles at her, but it isn’t a happy smile.
“And that is an endless amount of time to fall even more in love with them both, which will lead to even more breaking of yours and his heart.” Kallos looks down because Aphrodite is right. But she doesn’t want to choose until she knows who she wants for sure. “But Kallos, you do need to get going.” Kallos looks back up at her and she is smiling.
“Yeah, I should get back. I have a date with Sean.” They stand up together and Aphrodite kisses Kallos' cheek.
“I will see you soon, Kallos.” Then Aphrodite vanishes as quickly as she appeared. Kallos really does hope that she gets that power.
Kallos walks over to the flowers; she isn't ready to leave yet. She could never smell anything in a dream before, but here everything smells wonderful. The flowers are like super flowers; the roses are perfect and bigger than any she has ever seen before. The sunflowers are almost twice the size of her head. The best thing about this garden is that there are no bugs. She hates bugs and will admit that they terrify her. She walks back to the pond, and for the first time, she sees fish, huge gold fish and some others she doesn’t recognize. So, this place does have life besides the flowers. She looks up at the sky, and its flawless ocean blue color with no clouds. The sky reminds her of Ian’s eyes. She knows she needs to get back so she prepares herself to do so.
CHAPTER TWENTY
Kallos thinks about home and everything in it. It doesn’t take her long to be back in her bed. It's morning, which is great. She loves when she is gone; it takes her whole night away. She glances over at Sean, and he is sound asleep. He looks so peaceful. The blanket isn’t covering his chest, so she has a great view of his beautiful chest and abdomen. Kallos peeks over at the clock and notices that it is an hour before she needs to be awake. Slowly she gets out of bed and walks as quietly over to her dresser. She wants to start getting ready. Her door is already open, that is the major rule. They have to leave the door open when they sleep. Kallos walks out and down to the bathroom; she notices the house is noiseless. She looks over to her parent’s room and their door is wide open. She walks over to it and sees that her mom already made the bed. She walks back to the bathroom; she wants to take a shower first.
After her shower, she goes straight down stairs. Kallos walks into the kitchen and doesn’t see her mom or dad. But she does see a note attached to the fridge. She walks over to it:
We went out for breakfast. We won’t be back until this afternoon. So, Kallos and Sean have a good time on your date.
She knows that her mom wrote the note. She isn’t very hungry, so she grabs an apple. It's weird that her parents aren’t here; they never leave her alone. Well, she isn't alone; she has Sean and Ian here. She starts to think about what Aphrodite and she talked about. Aphrodite told her that she could choose between Sean and Ian at her graduation. That gives her three years to decide. Kallos knows that it won’t be easy to choose, but she has to. She looks up as Ian walks in. He smiles, and her fingers go to the amazing bracelet. She still hasn’t taken it off, and she never plans too.
“Good morning, Angel” Ian says and looks around; when he looks at her,
he raises a questioning eyebrow.
“They went out to eat. I need to get ready for today.” Kallos still has no clue what she is doing today, but wants to be prepared. She starts to walk toward the doorway, and Ian steps in her way. She is starting to like this new Ian; he is more aggressive and demanding.
“Aren’t you going to tell me good morning? Or if you talked to Aphrodite?”
“Good morning, Ian,” Kallos whispers. The effect that Ian and Sean have on her sometimes makes her forget her own name. “Aphrodite said that I could spirit travel and my change will be coming soon. She doesn’t know when though.” She can see the corners of his lips rising in a smile, and his baby blues are starting to change. “Are you okay?” As soon as she asks him, he closes his eyes, and when he reopens them, they are back to normal.
“I’m fine. And that is a good thing about your spirit traveling. Sean and I didn’t get anything until we changed. So, maybe this is a sign that you will be the one with most of the powers.” There is something not right about him today. Maybe he is still worried about her, and that is why he is acting so different. As Kallos sees the dark blue sneaking out, she wonders if he even knows its happening.
“Yeah, maybe,” she says and moves away from him. She sits at the table. Sean walks in, and is still in his pajamas pants, and he put on a shirt. He smiles at Kallos and nods at Ian; Ian rolls his eyes and sits across from her. Sean and Kallos share a look, and she knows that he is thinking the same thing. “My parents went out for breakfast, so it’s just us.” Sean nods and sits next to her.
