“He’s already told us a lot,” Frank said, “and is pretty proud of it all, it seems.”
Sergeant Chang handcuffed Dave and read him his rights. Then they all boarded the Coast Guard boat for the trip back to the city.
“As soon as I got your messages, I called your flat,” Sergeant Chang said on the cruise back. “Deb told me you’d gone to Dave’s and why. When we got to Sausalito, we saw your SUV near the marina, Cody. I found out that Dave had a boat and that it was gone. I knew no one would take a boat out in this fog unless it was an emergency, he was crazy, or he was doing something illegal. When I called the Coast Guard to have them search for Dave’s boat, I insisted they take me along.”
“How did you know we were here?” Cody asked.
“The Coast Guard got a call from some fishermen that a boat might have ditched on Alcatraz. We headed here immediately. I was pretty worried until I saw you on the dock.”
Frank, Joe, and Cody told Sergeant Chang about their conversation with Dave.
“Well, Frank and Joe, there’s no doubt about it. You are definitely chips off your father’s block. He’s going to be very proud of you for putting Dave out of circulation. You were here on vacation, and you managed to save Cody’s business in the process.”
“Yeah,” Cody said, giving the Hardys high-fives. “You might say your trip here has been a bone-anza for Skin and Bones!”
