Spinning around the Mother, I plotted and poked holes in her body with my trident. Each strike activated a random elemental skill, the combination of which turned her skin black. Barely visible black smoke began to ooze out from her pores.
You have dealt a critical hit.
The “Mother of the Decayed” will lose 37,851 HP in the next 5 seconds. The “Mother of the Decayed’s” speed of movement, reaction time and attack power will be halved for the next 5 seconds.
Yes! This’ll come in handy in fights against super-serious enemies. However, this’ll be totally useless against weaker enemies. They’ll die long before receiving a critical hit.
But all that was unimportant now. My enemy, although still standing, was shaking. Black smoke was emanating from her body. More importantly, my skill was about to end.
I closed the distance between us and felt myself returning to my normal form. I suddenly felt extremely tired and I barely managed to remain standing…
The Altar of Light immediately found its way into my hands. I didn’t have to spend all of the “lives” now, but I’d still use a little more than necessary.
Spending what little remained of my strength, I got behind the Mother.
Use 500 “lives” to activate the “Power of Light.”
The Altar got hotter than ever before, and the smell of burnt skin filled my nostrils. I cried from pain. My vision blurred, but I could see a beam of Light pierce through the chest of the Mother.
The system messages about leveling up and finishing off the Mother flashed before my eyes. But I couldn’t pay attention to them... I was falling... My conscience was slipping away from me... The last thing I saw was a ray of black-green energy rushing toward me.
Who jumped in front of it...? A mercenary...? A very important mercenary…
Epilogue
It smelled of violets! The smell was very distinct and close!
I felt warmth of someone’s lips on my own…
I opened my eyes and saw Una. She was kissing me with her eyes closed. I must’ve jerked, because she suddenly opened her eyes. Mischief was dancing in her eyes. She moved away slowly and not without hesitation.
My body ached, and I could barely move. I had to check the logs, but that could wait. Finding out what was going on was more important right now.
“Congratulations for getting another Part,” Una said, placing the Part of Zurtarn on my chest. I snatched it at once and put it in my inventory. The sudden movement only increased my pain. I groaned. “I’m glad to see you,” Una said and bent lower. My Disciples and warriors, who had been standing nearby, hurried to us. “I heard that you’re married now,” she whispered in my ear. “You know, that can be easily fixed.”
She smiled slyly and got up. There came a loud flapping of the wings and a giant Crow flew down from the sky. Filling its beak with the lilac sand, Una jumped on the bird’s back and soared up into the sky.
I fell unconscious again. Everything that had happened seemed like a dream…
