“Glad you could make it, Alex,” the boss said.

“What the hell, Alex? You’re family and that’s what family does,” Treb said in disgust. “So you’re hurt. You’re still a member of the team. Damn, Alex, we’re not going to throw you away because you got hurt.”
Alex couldn’t help but smile gratefully at Treb. To the outside Treb projected an aura of being cold, hard and dangerous. But from the very start Treb had always had Alex’s back. Even more than that, Treb had always treated him with respect for his talents and as a man.
“Now that that has been made clear, we can go on with the meeting,” the boss said. “I do have to bring up one thing. Keep your eyes open for anyone or anything unusual. Tony just looked at him for a moment and then smiled. “I’m glad. Leo has never looked happier and his health is almost completely back, since being with you. I just wanted to tell you I support you both and wish you all the best.” With that, Tony gave Alex a huge but careful hug.
Leo pulled up to the porch in his car and called out the open window, “Hey, hands off my man, Tony!
“I’m just welcoming him into the DeLuca-Grayson family. It’s the rest of the family you’re going to have to worry about. There are a couple of the cousins that are going to try to steal him away,” Tony called back.
“Not a chance. He’s mine,” Leo stated as he opened the car door and went to help Alex into the car.
Tony just laughed and headed back into the house.

Before he knew it they had reached town and found the newly opened café. The outside of the building was sided with half logs and the panes of the windows painted a hunter green. “This is nice,” Alex said, looking around at all of the trees surrounding the deck. Flower boxes hung on the outside of the railings, adding a multitude of colors to all the green. Each of the tables had an umbrella covering them to protect them from the sun directly overhead.
A waitress came over and after pleasantly greeting them, filled their water glasses, took their drink orders, handed them menus, and left. As soon as the men put down their menus, having made their decisions, the waitress was back writing down their orders and leaving them their drinks.
Leo sat back relaxing, just watching the beautiful man beside him. How most would overlook him, Leo would never understand. The light brown hair shone with healthiness and his tanned skin glowed. Leo watched Alex’s light brown eyes flecked with green look around the deck area, automatically finding all the shadowed areas and the escape routes. “You don’t actually think I didn’t see you hide them under all of those baggy clothes you wear?” One eyebrow lifted. “There aren’t even half as many as Treb carries,” Alex defended.
“Treb is crazy as a loon,” Leo returned.
“Okay, you got me there. But he’s loyal and would fight to the death for any one of us.”
“That’s true. At least he has stopped calling me asshole now.”
“You rose a few levels in his eyes when you came and stayed with me at the hospital.”
“Of course I came to you when you were hurt. I had already decided you were mine to take care of.” Leo didn’t mention the growing love he was now feeling for this man. He wanted to tell him when the time was just right and make it a forever special moment.
Before Alex could respond, the food came and their soft drinks were topped off. They both were hungry and the food was excellent so there was little conversation until their plat

“All right, I’ll be right back and then we can head out.” Leo squeezed Alex’s hand then he grabbed the receipt for their meal and went into the café.
Alex was just trying to get up the energy to start making his way toward the car, when a voice viciously whispered in his ear, “Do you think a plain-Jane piece of nothing like you can keep a gorgeous moneybags like that interested? If he isn’t screwing someone else already, he soon will be.”

“Get out of here. I’ll be watching for you and if I see you, you’ll be worrying about more than having a limp arm for a few hours,” Treb threatened. Of course the guy took off like his ass was on fire.
And then in complete Treb fashion, he gave Alex a smile and said, “Well, I’ll be going. I’m meeting Damian inside.” Casually he sauntered into the café.
“Alex, let’s get you to the car. We’ll talk about what just happened then.” Leo’s stern voice got his attention.
Painfully getting to his feet, he let Leo help him position the walker in place and then slowly, they made their way across the deck to the car. The people sitting at the other tables were all talking excitingly about what they had just witnessed. Alex just concentrated on making it to the car.
