“I know,” she breathed. “The stupid family curse. We’re all doomed.”
Cyn stroked her cheek with the pad of his thumb. “No, you’re not. You’ll outlive the curse…or put an end to it.”
“What makes you so sure, Cyn?” Her stomach fluttered at his words and her pulse quickened.
“You’re not like the other women in your family. I know that much.” He released her for a few moments and paced the floor coolly with his hands behind his back. “Mimi has secrets. Ones that she refuses to share.” He spun around toward her. “You were a mere sacrifice. An ancestor of yours—Silas—promised you to a demon, long before his death.”
“I’m a simple sacrifice…to you?” An emptiness filled her at that thought.
“No.” Cyn shook his head and frowned. “Barius is a cruel demon. He’s Mimi’s demon. Your aunt never told you? He’s the reason she deteriorates. I was able to change that, but it’s only temporary.”
Disappointment claimed Helena. If that were the case, Aunt Mimi would perish like all the others. “Aren’t all demons cruel?”
Cyn growled. “I don’t consider myself to be cruel. I’m just me,” he huffed. “Now answer my question, did she ever tell you about Silas?”
“No.” Disappointed, Helena walked over to the large windows and pulled back the curtains. “I guess she didn’t want to hurt my feelings?” Her chest tightened as she glared at Cyn.
“I probed her mind, but there’s some information she’s holding back…about you.” He rested his palm between her shoulder blades. “Apparently you’re no mortal.”
Helena looked down at her hands. “Apparently not, with the shooting of the fireballs and all.” She finally needed to admit the truth to him. She would no longer fight her demon. Maybe, in some ways, they were both one in the same, she thought as she turned to face him. “Now I know why I’m so attracted to you, Cyn.”
“Yeah, now we know.” He pulled her against his hard chest and slanted his mouth to hers. She allowed his tongue to invade her mouth and gasped when he cupped her breast.
Cyn broke the connection and stared into her eyes. “You don’t know how much I’ve wanted you, Helena. It has been pure torture waiting for you all this time.” His form wavered a few times. “Allow me to take you in my demon form.”
“Kinky,” she muttered when he grabbed her arms, pinned them behind her back, and slowly walked them toward the bed.
Impatiently, Cyn gripped her clothing and ripped it from her body. The material caught fire and disintegrated before it hit the floor. Helena propped herself on her elbows, staring past her body and into Cyn’s face. The demon salivated for her. The look on his face made her heart thunder against her chest.
Gently, he forced apart her legs and placed his lithe, toned body between them. He glanced up, piercing her with those wickedly delightful golden eyes. Cyn purred like some majestic animal as he inhaled her feminine scent.
“You smell so fucking good!” he said between his teeth. Slowly, seductively, he traced down the seam of her soaked nether lips before flicking his tongue over them. “You’re so damned wet and taste so fucking sweet, just as I remember,” he mused.
Helena cried out as he entered a finger between her puffy lips. “That’s right, sweetness; drip for me.” Her hips moved in time with his rhythm as her clitoris became engorged with blood. When he withdrew his finger, she whimpered her protest.
“Please. Don’t stop.” Helena breathed and swallowed hard. She hissed when he eased that finger inside her again. When he added another finger, the stretching, burning sensations intensified. Helena almost went through the roof. “Yes!” she screamed. “Like that, Cyn! Just like that,” she howled. Her lower tummy heated and her toes curled.
Cyn growled as his teeth nipped her clit, his tongue quickly soothing the ache as he used his body weight to pin her to the bed.
“Such a tight fucking slit.” Removing his finger, he lifted it to his lips and sucked hard while looking her dead in the eye. “Fuck! I want to devour you again.” He spread her wide and invaded her cunt with his tongue, making her buck and cry out. Slowly, he lifted his head. “That’s right, Helena. I want to hear how much you love having my tongue in that sweet pussy.”
Holding her hips in place, Cyn plunged his long tongue deep inside her while his nose stimulated her clit. Helena’s eyes rolled in the back of her head as her demon’s skilled swirls and thrusts had her undulating her hips against his face.
As tremors racked her body, she fisted his hair and clamped her thighs around him as her orgasm struck her. The heat singed its way through her body as she came hard.
“Cyn!” Helena lay there, quivering like a pile of jelly. She had no time to pull herself together. Before she could react, her demon flipped her onto her stomach and swatted her on the ass.
Her body shook uncontrollably as Cyn positioned her legs apart and plunged deep inside her. Helena bit her lip hard as he pounded into her. The demon’s hot, punishing cock was highly addictive and drove her to the dark depths of insanity. She loved when he yanked her tresses with one hand and spanked an ass cheek with the other.
The bed creaked and groaned under their heavy exertions as Helena’s sharp cries pierced Cyn’s bedchamber. The heat from his body felt like embers from a roaring fire. Sweat beaded her body as unbridled pleasure assaulted her senses.
“So fucking tight and sweet!” Cyn breathed.
He rocked her body hard, back and forth against the black silk bedding. Helena managed to rise on all fours, but Cyn pushed her head down as he pummeled her weeping slit. Her legs trembled and bowed beneath the large man’s weight. His growls made the hair on the back of her neck stand on end.
“I’m going to come inside you, fill that pussy up with my cum!” he said with a groan just before he smacked her ass again. In response, Helena’s cunt spasmed around his shaft.
“Oh God yes!” she ground out. “Do it, Cyn! Please do it!” His animalistic groans filled her ears as his thrusts increased. She fisted the silk sheets and clamped her pussy around him. Helena moaned loudly when his cock swelled inside her.
“Shit, Helena!” He grabbed her hair, eliciting a whimper from her. “Fuck!” He slammed in deep inside her.
She felt him stiffen as his hot seed fired inside her, melting her insides, stealing another orgasm from her. “Fuck yeah, Cyn!” She shivered and pinched her nipples painfully between her fingers. She rocked against his hard body, riding the rippling waves of pleasure as he ground his pelvis against her ass.
“Mmm. Ahh!” Cyn shuddered before gathering her up in his arms. “My little she-demon!” He groaned.
Helena snuggled in his strong arms, nudging him gently. “I am not a demon,” she chastised.
“Then why am I so drawn to you?” he asked.
Helena was shocked to hear him so puzzled. “You’ve always been drawn to me. You want my soul.”
“No.” He shook his head as his black hair stuck to his sweaty body. “It’s more than that. I can no longer deny what I feel for you.”
She rolled her eyes and tried to sit up, but he pulled her back down. “Don’t you dare try to leave me, not after what we just shared.”
Helena sighed. Her barriers were down, and she felt the strong, magnetizing pull toward Cyn. It occurred to her that she never wanted to leave his side. Hours ago, she was ready to tear down the walls to get away from him. Now she was seeing things in a different light.
“Did you cast a spell on me?” she asked.
Cyn ran his fingers through her hair. “Now where would the fun be in that?” He smirked. “I’ll let you figure it out,” he said. “Things are different now.” He ran his hands over her soft skin.
“No matter what you say, I refuse to believe I’m a demon. A witch, maybe. A demon, hell no.”
“What’s so wrong with being a demon?” Cyn smiled wickedly.
“Well—up until now I had always figured myself to be at least human. It would be shocking to learn
otherwise.”
Cyn licked his lips and flopped onto his back. “Don’t sweat the small stuff, beautiful. Enjoy what we have and stop analyzing things. We’ll cross that fiery bridge when we approach it,” he promised. “No matter what happens, I’ll always be in your corner.”
Helena glanced sideways at him. A demon in her corner? Things like that didn’t happen in the Pearsall family. Demons enslaved and murdered their women. Had she somehow lucked onto a demon with a heart?
“Stop glaring at me like that,” Cyn demanded. “Makes me wonder what you’re up to.” His stern, chiseled features eventually softened as he continued his admiration of her body. “I’ll never harm you, Helena Pearsall.”
She smiled and touched the deep cleft of his chin before stifling a yawn. “I’m sorry. I’m so tired.” She lay facing her demon and couldn’t help but to smile. The lust for him had somehow turned into something else, a strong emotion she’d thought she would never have in her life.
“Get some rest.” Cyn continued staring at her until she couldn’t hold her eyes open any longer. He never moved as she drifted off into a deep sleep.
Chapter Six
A furious Barius stormed into the old, dilapidated cemetery. He’d finally found him after all these years. Sniffing the witch, Silas, out he followed the scent to an unmarked grave. Chanting a few quick words, he summoned the human.
“Rise!”
Silas appeared and tried retreating, but the ruby glowed an ominous red. “You!” he belted out.
Barius curled his lip. “You think too highly of yourself, witch. I know what you did. Long ago. You made it so that another demon could lay claim to the one I sought centuries ago! Helena was promised to me! You’ve went through great lengths to thwart me over the centuries and now that I’ve found you, I’ll make you pay!”
“Demons aren’t the only ones who can manipulate,” Silas snapped. “You’re the one who betrayed me. It was my soul you were supposed to have taken, not the lives of the innocent ones. I had to have a back-up plan.” He narrowed his eyes and held up his chin. “You’ll never have her.”
“Hmm. Now we’re playing the hero. You selfish, foolish bastard! Ah, but Mimi, I’ve had. Body and soul. She’ll never be normal again.” Barius laughed. “Now, puppet. You will do my bidding and find the girl.”
Silas backed up, but an unseen force drew him to Barius. The demon sneered. “Now you shall have the chance to see the results of your actions up close and personal. You’ll receive no empathy from them. They’ll only hate you.”
“No!” a strangled cry erupted from Silas’s lips. “I cannot lay eyes on them!”
Barius grinned. “I know. It cuts your very soul, doesn’t it?” He pulled the man close so they were eye to eye. “The worst part for you is Hell still awaits. I will be on your ass day and night, Silas.” He tried removing the pendant from around the man’s neck, but it electrocuted him.
Silas grinned.
“What’s this?” Barius snarled. “Impossible!” he bellowed.
“You don’t own me entirely,” Silas mused. “I had a few tricks up my sleeve. Yes, to you, I was a sniveling coward in need of false happiness. I considered my options wisely back then. There’s power in our line, never doubt that. No demon will ever have complete domination over some of us.”
“You may think you’ve outsmarted me.” The demon’s eyes glittered in near defeat, and he changed his tune. “There’s a lowly demon, Cyn.” Barius gnashed his teeth at the name. “Because of your betrayal, he wormed his way into Helena’s life when she summoned her demon.”
“Well, where’s her demon?” Silas asked with a smug smile.
“Don’t know, but Cyn is not one of mine! Rectify this matter and get me the girl, or I will feed your soul to my hellhounds!”
Silas nodded and smirked. “You do know I don’t care what will happen to me.”
“There’s nothing left for you and no chance for redemption. Ever!” Barius spat. “You sealed your fate long ago!” With that, he released Silas and disappeared.
Silas knew back when he’d cast the spell he had to have a plan in order to throw off Barius. It worked. He closed his eyes and regretted the pain he’d inflicted. He was thankful he had the ability to cloak his thoughts from Barius. Of course, that was why his family cast him out. All along he’d been blessed with certain gifts of the craft. He would have been even more powerful if he hadn’t turned down the dark path. He could see that now.
After Barius parted in the past, Silas imbued the glowing ruby with his blood and Sorscha’s. After this act, he was able to dodge his demon tormenter for centuries. Given so little time, it was the best plan he could come up with.
He had received glimpses of another family member capable of trapping and guarding demonic beings. He smiled, and for the first time hope blossomed in his heart. Was he regaining his humanity? Perhaps this was a second chance for him? If not, he’d make sure Helena would have a chance. She may not have a chance at human life, but at least she’d have the chance to love and be loved.
Barius couldn’t harm him, for now. His only concern was what the she-demon had in store for him. What was her purpose in all of this? With a sigh, Silas began to hunt for Helena and Cyn. He’d do whatever he had to; he’d make amends for his mistakes.
Chapter Seven
Silas finally located Cyn’s realm. The son of the she-demon was definitely expecting company. The barrier singed his flesh as he willed his way through. Sensing the demon and other family members, he found himself at the entrance of Cyn’s manor.
Before he could do or say anything, the door flew open and Cyn appeared in half-human, half-demon form. His eyes narrowed and flashed in anger as he eyed Silas.
“Cyn, I gather.” Silas never took his eyes off the demon.
“How the hell did you make it past my barriers?” Cyn glowered at him and sniffed. “Wait a minute…don’t tell me you’re…?”
Silas cleared his throat and frowned. “May I speak to Helena?”
“You!” Cyn growled and lengthened his talons, ready to strike the man down. “This cannot be! You’re dead!”
“Then…you know who I am?”
The demon nodded as he bared teeth. “Barius sent you to do his dirty work. You’re here to deliver Helena to him! You’ve met your match, witch! I’ll not let you take her without a fight!”
“I won’t harm Helena, but Barius? He is the one you should be concerned with.”
“Then what business do you have here with my Helena?”
“I’m here of my own accords,” Silas insisted stubbornly. “Please. May I come in?”
“I should incinerate you from the inside out for what you’ve done,” Cyn snarled.
“Don’t!” Helena’s heart beat rapidly and her throat tightened. From the moment Cyn opened the door, she’d heard them arguing. “I want to speak with him.”
Cyn stiffened and released a growl. Never letting Silas out of his sight, he motioned for the man to cross the threshold of his domain. “One wrong move and I’ll destroy you.”
“I’ve been through more hell than you could ever dish out,” Silas said awkwardly as he fixated his gaze on Helena. “You are the least of my worries and a mere personal demon of lust. Helena, I’m so sorry for what I’ve done.”
“How dare you!” Helena said on a low growl. “What reason do you possibly have for even seeking me out? What right do you have to even approach me after all you’ve put our family through?”
“A very good one,” Silas admitted. “Look, I’m not going to beg your forgiveness. We don’t have much time.”
“What are you babbling about?” Cyn butted in rudely. “You’re damn right you don’t have much time. Speak your piece and get the hell out of my realm!”
“You have my deepest sympathies, Helena,” Silas admitted.
She crossed her arms over her chest and narrowed her eyes. “Besides the fact that you were selfish and stupid in your choices?”

I have good reasons for my choice, but that’s not my purpose for coming here. Barius will be here soon. He’s coming for you, Helena. I’ve managed to dodge him all these years with the help of another. Until the time was right.” Silas removed the necklace and handed it to Helena. “This all can be rectified. You and Mimi aren’t the last of our line. There are others who fight against the curse. I’ve seen them in my vision.”
Reluctantly, Helena accepted the necklace. “What purpose will a simple necklace serve?”
“It’s imbued with my blood and magic. It aided me in cloaking my presence from Barius. I’m no good, though, not like you or Mimi. If one of you wears this pendant, you’ll have the power you’ll need to contain Barius. You can even revive Mimi to her former state. The curse will be broken.”
“Wait a minute, I want to know one thing,” Helena insisted. “What about me?”
“You’re half demon?” Silas shrugged. “Surely you knew that?”
“Only recently…well, we’ve suspected. I just want to know how did I become half demon?”
Cyn laid a hand on her shoulder and peered at her through slitted, golden eyes. “Does it really matter?” he asked.
“I’d like to know my origins.” She looked to Silas.
“Demons were supposed to consume our entire line. The women in our family mated with them; that’s how you appeared to me. Prior to my striking a bargain with both demons in eighteen eighty-seven, I saw you often in my visions.”
Helena wrinkled her face in disgust. “How is it that you can just waltz in here, after what you did? You sacrificed me to a demon! Not to mention, unleashed a curse on everyone in our family! We are almost nonexistent thanks to you!” She may have been staring at a distant relative of the past, but his actions against her invoked a savage pain that possibly could never be erased.
Silas’s jaw tightened. “There’s nothing I can do to change the past. I’ve spent my entire existence regretting it all. There’s no way out for me. What’s done is done. At least you can make a life with your newfound love. You’ll be the first woman in our line since eighteen eighty-seven to know love.”
