"How long before they go to prison?"
"They are there. I didn't want to call until it was completely safe. The DA did his job on this one. We collected every scrap of evidence we could on them. And we buried them. So get your stuff together and come on home." Harry told him.
"Okay Harry."
But the news was hard to take. They'd been so happy here. Going back, there wasn't that much to look forward to.
Bill called them into the living room, "Harry called and wants us to come back. They got them in prison. No chance of parole."
Will looked stricken, Samantha looked lost, and he felt everything they did.
"We don't want to go back," Samantha said point blank.
"I know, neither do I." Bill said quietly.
"Really?" Samantha stared at him.
"Really. But we do have to go back, see everyone and tell them what we've decided. I'm want to run for Sheriff here in Chadron. Will loves the school and his friends. And you are on every committee and so involved in everything I couldn't possible move. So, we'll go back, see your father, my folks and explain to them all, that we want to live right where we are."
Will and Samantha grabbed him and hugged him.
"Thanks dad."
"Yeah, and while we're at it, we'll get married, and I'll check on the adoption papers. How does that sound?"
"Great!" They both chorused.
"This little town is perfect for us, it's peaceful, quiet, got lots of friends, great jobs, good schools, this is where we need to live. But now at least we can have our family come visit and take care of all the things we haven't."
Samantha sighed, "Wonderful. I don't want a big wedding, I just want us four there, Harry, and your family and get married."
"Great. And are you ready to be Will Cody, officially?"
"Absolutely."
Bill smiled. "Might even look into changing our names. That way, even if someone did try to find us, they wouldn't know who we really were."
They agreed.
Cody grabbed them both for a group hug, kissed them both on the forehead and smiled. "It's a plan…"
