“To my place; we don’t have time to wait for Paris!”
Epilogue
One Year Later
Saxton and Odessa sat on the patio enjoying the warm summer’s eve as they held hands while watching the start of the setting sun. His extensive injuries on his last assignment had given him some leeway on a starting date at his new job. He worked for six months before he took a week off to take his wife to Paris.
Neither knew if what they had shared in such an intense circumstance in Mexico could or would translate into something real. It was even more questionable if there was enough between them to maintain a marriage outside of the powerful chemistry they felt for each other. It did not take them long to find out.
The wedding night he had been saving his energy for was not a disappointment to either of them. Saxton was a generous lover and based on the trust they had developed in Mexico, Odessa was able to let herself be free to enjoy her husband. Uncertain if legally he was truly hers, she was surprised when he presented her the wedding certificate, signed by the Priest at Renteria’s villa. It seemed the drug lord wanted to make sure they had the documentation needed to make it official; he thought they were a simpatico couple.
Big Sarge still was not convinced and took the certificate to his attorney to review. Odessa was uncertain if her father was disappointed in whom she married or saddened that he didn’t get a chance to shoot someone. Her mother, brother and sister really liked Saxton, and after a fishing trip on a quiet Saturday morning, her father came around. Big Sarge said you had to respect a man that appreciated the complexities of fishing.
Three months after getting settled into Odessa’s home, they drove to Houston to meet Saxton’s family. His parents were loving and accepting, and happy that he had settled down and was no longer running around playing cops and robbers. Odessa worried that the slower pace of their lifestyle would bore him and she would awaken to find him gone. Instead, he awoke every morning to find her sleeping atop him, which after several months, became something he rather enjoyed.
On the twelfth day of the twelfth month of their marriage, the doorbell rang and Saxton rose to answer it, surprised to find targeting agent Marecus Roget, “We need you, Blakemore!”
Saxton shook his head no as Odessa walked to the door to see who had come for a visit, asking Saxton to stop being rude and let the man in.
“We have a job for you, Blakemore. We need a seasoned man to head to Panama to do some surveillance.”
Odessa piped up, “What is he surveilling?”
“We have received word that the Russians are entering the drug-trafficking trade and shipping items through Cuba, into Panama, and on to the U.S. We need you to take a quick vacation and get us some intel.”
Saxton was still shaking his head no, “I can’t Roget, I am a married man. I only have 60% vision in my left eye and my left hand doesn’t fully work. I’m too compromised.”
Roget handed him an eye patch, “Mrs. Blakemore will be your cover.” He presented a black leather pouch to Odessa with a credit card for Blakemore Imports and Collectibles. “You are accompanying your wife on a shopping excursion in Panama.”
Saxton needed a minute to discuss this with his wife, who had disappeared up the stairs. “Odessa, where are you going?”
“To pack, Baby,” she turned and grinned at him from the top of the stairs, “You know how Mrs. Blakemore loves to shop! Panama here we come!”
