The Girl on the Edge of Summer Page 31

by J. M. Redmann

I needed to move as far as I could away from the edge, to build the life I wanted. Someday I’d be at a party and Cordelia and her new partner would be there. I needed to be okay for that day. Not for her, but for me. And I needed it to be just a day, just a passing day. I’d redone my profile on the dating site, made plans to join a book group, to open the world as best I could. To be so much more than okay.

  The doorbell rang.

“No one loves you if you’re an asshole jerk,” I reminded myself and went to open it.
