I jumped up and down for joy.

Nick stared at me and said, “Yeah, you would have been a perfect cheerleader. You have the beauty and the brains.”

I didn’t know whether it was the excitement of the game or the compliment he had just given me, but I pulled him closer to me and kissed him passionately.

When we came up for breath he said, “Hmm… Maybe I should take you to more games.”

  “Maybe you should.”

He kissed me again and then we headed outside of the stadium. We headed back to his car and began to make out. He then began to grab my thigh.

“Oh God, April. I have missed you so much,” he whispered.

He then traced my thighs with his fingertips. I was beginning to shiver.

He looked at me with a devilish grin.

“Maybe we should head back to your place?” he suggested slyly.

“Uh, yeah. It’s getting pretty late.”

  “Okay, let’s go.”

He started the car and we drove back to my place. On the way we were talking about the highlights of the game. He decided to disrupt the flow of the conversation to compliment me. As we came to a lull in the conversation, he said,

“Can I just say how refreshing it is to know a girl that understands the game?”

I beamed, gratified by his compliment. It seemed like he didn’t meet a lot of girls like me. I almost felt sorry for him. I was glad that I was different from the other girls. He seemed to appreciate that.

“Well, maybe you should have started dating a different kind of woman a long time ago,” I stated.

“True, but we might have never met,” he agreed.

“However, if it was meant to be, we would have eventually met,” I replied.

He grinned as he said, “I know and honestly, I’m glad that I met you.”

I smiled. It was one of the sweetest things that I had ever heard.

  “Really?” I asked coyly.

“Yeah, I mean it. April, there is no one else quite like you. You are just so…interesting.”

That wasn’t the adjective I was going for, but I’ll take it.

“I meant it in a good way. I wished women would have more substance like you. I mean I can have a conversation with you. I can be myself around you. It’s just so, so…” his voice trailed off.

“Easy. Yeah, I feel the same way too,” I responded.

  He kissed me once again.

“I’m glad that you do. I really do feel extremely comfortable around you, April. I can talk to you about everything.”

“Yeah, I know what you mean.”

  “Yeah, cool. I’m really glad.”

We finally arrived back at my house.

“So, about that cheerleading outfit of yours…,” he began.

  “Yes?”

“Am I going to see it tonight?”

“No, sorry. I have to get back to studying. I have a lot to catch up on. Besides, my dad is home and I don’t think it would be a good idea if you came upstairs.”

Nick looked disappointed. He really wanted to see me in the uniform.

“Aww okay, I really wanted to see you in the outfit shaking those pom-poms of yours, but I completely understand. Another time then?” he suggested.

“Yeah, another time. I’ve got to pass these exams. They are so important to me,” I said.

“I know. You really want to get that internship.”

“Yes, I do. And who knows? Maybe after exams, we can…make up for lost time,” I hinted.

He growled as I carefully caressed his thigh.

“Sure I can’t try to change your mind?” he pressed.

He looked at me with those deep, seductive eyes. He began to stroke my thighs once again and then my arms. He leaned in and kissed me. I had to admit that he was pretty convincing and I was this close to sneaking him in, but I stopped myself before it went any further.

“Nice try, but I have to go upstairs. Thanks for the date and the game,” I said as I pulled back a little.

“You’re welcome. I hope we get to do it again,” he said.

  “Yeah, after exams,” I promised.

I kissed him goodbye and headed inside. As soon as I got in, I saw my father was waiting up for me.

“So how was the date?” he asked.

“It was pretty good actually,” I told him.

“Great. He seems like a really nice guy. It was really nice of him to get me that job.”

“Yeah, it was,” I kissed him on the cheek and then headed upstairs to continue studying.

He then blew the horn of the car and waved goodbye.

  “Bye Nick.”

  “Bye April.”

I then watched him speed off into the distance.

  16

  Nick

As I drove home, I couldn’t stop thinking about that date. April looked so attractive. I really wanted to go upstairs and show her how much I appreciated the way she looked. For someone who is up at night studying, she looked quite fresh and well rested. And extremely hot.

I wanted to make love to her so badly! I missed it already and she was…amazing. I never felt such passion with another woman before. She just…wow.

I think I need to take it easy. I was getting turned on and although I was good at football, I really didn’t want to be dealing with blue balls. I was beginning to crave her and I needed to stop myself. I wished I could have changed her mind. She was working so hard and looked like she could use a longer break.

Even though I didn’t get to do what I really wanted to do, I still had a great time with her, like I always did. I felt a bit weird to be going home given that Dad and I got into a fight before I left. I hoped that he would get over this class conscious mentality that he seemed to have and just accept the fact that April was who I truly loved and wanted to be with.

As soon as I arrived home, I realized that all of my things were outside on the lawn. I was thinking to myself, “What the hell was going on?” as I picked up some of my boxers off of the grass. I gathered all of my things and sighed. As I was picking up my things, I noticed a note from my father. Apparently, he thought that I was stubborn and too opinionated to be living under the same room with him. He didn’t know where this behavior came from and he just didn’t like it.

So he was kicking me out. He did say that if I ever changed my mind, that he would let me move back in and reactivate my bank accounts. I sat there on the curb. I couldn’t believe that my father, my own family would do something like this to me. I didn’t even know. I still couldn’t believe that he would do this! Although he was a very serious man and wasn’t one to be taken lightly, I didn’t expect him to actually go through with it.

I looked at the house once again and sighed. I guess I would have to figure out where I would be living now. I no longer had access to my room or the food or the maids. But I did have access to the car at least. I decided to put my things in the car and sat there for a while. I didn’t know where else to go.

I decide to head back to the stadium and just stay there. It was the only other place that felt like home. I looked at the empty field and just wished things were different. I really wished that my father would accept April as the woman I loved. I wish I wasn’t so financially dependent on my father because then I could have stood on my own two feet, instead of letting him dictate my finances and trying to tell me who I should love and date.

I was so mad! I headed to the locker room and punched the locker. I looked at the dent I made and sighed. I didn’t have money to pay for this. I needed to think of a plan. I sat down on the benches in the locker room. My things were still in the car and I was beginning to feel sleepy. I was contemplating sleeping in my car, but my car was too small and didn’t exactly have a backseat to lie down on.

I decided to call one of my teammates. I hated talking to the guys about personal things, but I needed a place to crash. First person I decided to call was Mitch. He was one of the more laid-back guys on the team and a bit nicer
than the other guys.

I called him and explained the whole situation to him. I told him how I had been seeing April and that my dad didn’t approve of the relationship and threatened to kick me out and then actually did so.

“Wait, so you’re still seeing her?” Mitch asked.

“If you mean April, then yes,” I replied.

  “Wow, she’s so hot!”

Right, Mitch was also a complete meathead. He was a sweet kid, but wasn’t a smart one. I’m beginning to think those tackles do a lot more than just physical damage.

“Yeah, so Dad actually kicked me out. I may need a place to stay for a while. Is it okay if I crash at your place?”

“Yeah, sure. No problem,” he said.

  “Can I stay there tonight?”

  “Yeah, of course,” he answered.

  “Okay, thanks a lot.”

  “Don’t mention it, bro.”

I was relieved that I didn’t have to sleep inside the stadium tonight. I decided to head to his place and attempt to get some sleep. When I finally got to Mitch’s place, he greeted me at the door. I heard a female voice. Apparently, Mitch had company. This was surprising to me since he seemed to keep to himself a lot.

  “Hey,” I greeted him.

  “What’s up, Nick?” he retorted.

After we greeted each other and he invited me inside. The apartment wasn’t as messy as I thought it would be. Mitch wasn’t exactly one of the neatest persons I knew. Perhaps his new friend coming over had something to do with the change in his environment.

  “Wow, I haven’t been here since…,” I started.

“That party I threw last year. I know! Was crazy right?!” he chortled.

“Yeah, it was pretty intense!” I agreed.

“I’m thinking of having another one soon.”

  “Sounds pretty good!”

“So…. Sorry about your whole dad situation, man. That’s pretty cold.” Mitch said.

  “Yeah,” I replied.

“Well, the guest bedroom is upstairs. First door on your left.”

  “Yeah, thanks.”

I headed upstairs and put my bags down. The guest bedroom was quite small. Smaller than what I was used to. I sat on the bed and sighed. I was just frustrated that Dad chose this time to kick me out of the house. Just when finals were coming up and the team had some of the biggest games. I got into bed and lay there. I was just trying to process everything. I can’t believe that my dad could be so controlling! It was so frustrating! I sighed to myself. It wasn’t like me to feel sorry for myself. But here I was wallowing.

Suddenly, my stomach began to growl. I groaned and got out of bed. I made my way downstairs and prayed there was food in the house.

I finally headed downstairs and I saw Mitch talking to a tall blonde. They seemed to be deep into conversation. I looked at the way Mitch stared at her. I could tell that he really liked her.

I hated to interrupt their conversation, so I headed into the kitchen. Just as I was almost there, my stomach growled loudly. They turned around and looked at me. The girl laughed.

“Wow, are you that hungry?!” She exclaimed.

  I felt a bit embarrassed.

  “Uh, sorry guys,” I apologized.

Mitch decided it wasn’t a big deal.

“So not only did he kick you out of the house, but he didn’t leave anything for you to eat?”

  I shrugged my shoulders.

“Wow, I can’t believe he would do something like that. Anyways, Cindy made dinner and there are some leftovers in the kitchen if you want,” he offered.

  “Yeah, thanks.”

  “No problem.”

They then resumed their conversation. I still felt embarrassed. That was one way for my new roommates to get to know me. I hated being hungry all of the time, but I had to eat. It was for a good cause. Although I went to dinner with April, I had to eat seven times a day to keep my muscle mass. Sometimes it annoyed me, but I do what I can for the team.

I checked the fridge and there was some spaghetti and meatballs in a container. I opened the container and I could smell how good it was before I took some out and popped it into the microwave. As I punched the buttons, my mind suddenly focused on April. I wished she was here. It would have been nice. I began to fantasize about the last time we had sex. I couldn’t wait until her exams were over so that we could do it again.

As I began to fantasize about her perfect body, the microwave went off. I took my food out of it and my stomach began to growl again. The aroma was so tempting. I sat down at the table and began to eat. It was so good! I took another bite and in no time, the plate was spotless.

I put the dish in the sink and began to wash it. Cindy came into the kitchen and was shocked to see me doing the dishes.

“Oh you don’t have to do that.”

“Nah, it’s cool. I’m a guest here. I should help out however I can. By the way, did you really make that? I asked.

“You mean the spaghetti and meatballs? Yes, I did. My mother taught me how to cook when I was younger,” she replied.

“Well, she did an excellent job.”

“Thanks,” she said. Then she continued, “Yeah, look sorry about your dad kicking you out. I believe that you shouldn’t turn your back on family.”

“Yeah, so do I. Umm…Can we not bring that back up?”

  “Yeah, okay,” she agreed.

I could see that Cindy thought she had touched a nerve. Maybe she had. But, honestly I just wanted to move forward. I had things to think about and I didn’t want the fact that my dad kicked me out to be one of them.

I went back to washing the dishes when Cindy swooped in and did them.

“It’s your first night here. Don’t worry about dishes so much,” she said.

She then began to wash them and put them to dry.

“But don’t think you won’t have to do chores around the apartment.” she added.

  “Okay, got you.”

I headed outside the kitchen and saw Mitch watching the recordings of some football games. I never knew he was this committed to the sport.

“Hey! Just watching some clips of previous games,” he said.

“Wow! How did you get them?” I wanted to know.

“Oh, I begged the coach to give me the tapes. I told him that it can improve our stats and we can see the weaknesses of the other team.”

“Wow…That’s really smart,” I complimented him.

  “Yeah, thanks.”

Well, this was weird. I always saw Mitch as a meathead. Turns out, he was a very smart guy. I also didn’t know that he was the first in his family to attend college. He was on a sports scholarship and his GPA was 3.2. I just couldn’t make sense of all of this.

“So why do you act like a complete idiot on the field?” I wondered.

“That’s because it’s just easier that way. I think if the team knew I was a complete nerd, I’d be tortured mercilessly.”

Although I didn’t like what he was saying and I didn’t like the fact that he wasn’t being himself, I knew there was some truth to it. I mean there is nothing wrong with being good at sports and being incredibly smart, but some of the guys who had very fragile egos wouldn’t take that very well. It was annoying.

“Look, nothing is wrong with being smart and being an athlete. I can’t believe there is still that stupid stereotype,” I fumed.

“Yeah, I know. But sometimes you can’t change people. You can only change yourself.”

  “Yeah…”

We were joined by Cindy, who although she didn’t seem that interested in the game, sat there and watched some of the plays. Then I headed upstairs and tried to sleep, but I couldn’t. I was still mad at my father. I was still in shock that he could just kick family out like that.

I then decided to think about more pleasant things. Images of April filled my mind and I was beginning to feel at peace. I slowly began to close my eyes and was grateful that at least I still had April in my life. Suddenly, it
just felt easier to go to sleep.

The next day, I woke up and looked around me. I was still in disbelief that my dad had kicked me out. I tried to take a shower, but the bathroom was currently occupied. I decided to head downstairs where I found some breakfast on the table. Cindy then walked into the kitchen and smiled.

  “Hey there,” she smiled.

  “Hi Cindy,” I responded.

Mitch then walked into the kitchen.

  “Hey bro,” he said.

“Hey. You guys had breakfast already?”

“Yeah, there’s some leftover for you.”

“Oh cool, thanks man,” I thanked him.

“Yeah. I’m about to leave out soon to go to the stadium. So if you need a lift…” he offered.

“I still got the car, so it’s cool. I will meet you up there,” I assured him.

  “Okay, cool.”

I finished eating and Cindy took the plate from me. I can tell she was a woman who was destined to be a housewife. And that could work out in her favor. Mitch was one of the best players on the team and had offers from many other teams and if football didn’t work out, he could get a job since his grades were so good. She clearly chose the right guy.

  “Thanks, Cindy.”

“Yeah, no problem. I think you should go get ready.”

  “Yeah, I think you’re right.”

I got up, took a quick shower and headed to the stadium. I looked at the gas tank and realized I was running low on gas. I did have some change for gas which was a huge help, but I was worried that I may not have enough money to last the next few months.

I tried to put the thought out of my mind and focus on training. We had some big games coming up and our team had to do well. There was a lot riding on these games. There were a lot of scouts coming to games and these games could make or break our future football careers.

I entered the stadium and looked at the stands. Then I saw April at the popcorn stand. She looked lovely. I was dying to talk to her, so I rushed over to her.

  “Hi there” I smiled.

She smiled at me and I instantly felt better. Although I felt like my life was falling apart, I was glad I could depend on having April around.
