‘Oh, I do. More than anything!’
‘Good.’ He grinned at her then turned to June. ‘Can you let everyone know what’s happening? The truck’s outside so anyone who wants to come along is very welcome.’
‘That’s probably everyone,’ June said with a laugh. ‘After all the trials and tribulations you two went through to reach this point I expect we all want to enjoy the happy ending.’
June bustled away and the others went with her. Kasey sighed as the door closed and she and Adam were alone again. ‘It’s like a dream come true.’
‘It’s better than that because I never, ever dreamt I could be this happy.’ He kissed her softly on the mouth then took hold of her hand. ‘I just need to go back to the hostel and change then we can be on our way. We don’t want to keep Father Michael waiting, do we?’
‘No, we don’t.’
She let him lead her from the room. He’d parked the Jeep in front of the hospital and she laughed when she realised that news of their wedding must have spread like wildfire because there were people hanging out of every window, waiting to wave them off. It didn’t take long to get back to the hostel and she waited downstairs while Adam changed into clean trousers and a shirt. When he reappeared a short time later, she went to meet him, plucking a flower from her bouquet and tucking it into his breast pocket.
The journey to the orphanage was completed in a haze of happiness. The rest of the team had gone on ahead and were standing outside, waiting with Claire and the nuns for them to arrive. The children were also there and Kasey felt a lump come to her throat when she saw their smiling little faces as Adam helped her out of the Jeep. It made the day even more special to have them there.
The tiny chapel was ablaze with candles when they went inside and the scent of incense filled the air. Kasey held Adam’s hand as they walked up the aisle together and knew that this moment would live in her heart for ever. Father Michael was standing at the altar, smiling benignly at them as he began the service, his sonorous voice making the ancient words even more beautiful.
Kasey stood in front of everyone and made her vows and knew that she meant every word. She would love Adam from that day until eternity, she would never forsake him and would love him in sickness and in health. She had found the man she wanted to spend her life with and she was truly blessed because it was what he wanted, too. When the priest proclaimed them man and wife everyone clapped.
Adam turned to her and smiled with a wealth of love in his eyes as he bent to kiss her. ‘I love you, Kasey,’ he whispered.
‘And I love you, too. Now, always and for ever more.’
