“Why don’t we run out and grab the stools then, and the ladies can wait here for the delivery guys.”
“Okay, cool.” Patrick leaned over to brush his lips across mine and then he, Nate, and Anton were gone and I was in the kitchen with Renee and Chelsea.
“What can we do?” Renee asked, looking around.
“I’m unpacking all the boxes of stuff my parents got us,” I said. “Trying to figure out where I want to put everything. There’s a Keurig coffee maker, a toaster, a blender, and one of those George Foreman grills.”
“I love my George Foreman grill,” Chelsea said. “It’s great for nights when we’re in a hurry.”
“And grilled cheese sandwiches,” Renee added. “It’s perfect when Braden has friends over.” She’d told me she had a ten-year-old stepson.
“Since I barely know how to cook anything, I think this will be a lifesaver,” I replied, putting the grill on the counter.
“Do you have pots and pans?”
I shook my head. “Just a few. A frying pan, a small pot to boil water, and a larger pot to make things like spaghetti. My mom said I’d want to buy my own, that it’s personal when you start cooking.”
Renee nodded. “That it is.”
We talked as we put everything away.
“I have a list of things I need to buy,” I told them. “Sheets, towels, all kinds of stuff.”
“Shopping for that kind of thing is fun,” Chelsea said, grinning.
“I don’t think Patrick agrees but we’ve been trying to do that stuff as a couple since it’s our first place together.”
A knock on the door announced the arrival of the delivery men and I directed them to where I wanted everything. I loved the furniture we’d picked out and couldn’t wait to put on the sheets and comforter my mother and I had bought.
Chelsea sat on the edge of the mattress and bounced a little. “Nice and firm. You’ll need it if Patrick has half the libido Nate does.”
I snickered. “Oh, he definitely does.”
They helped me make the bed and finish putting away everything that was left. By that time, the guys were back and we put the three stools by the island.
“It’s coming together, huh?” Patrick asked me, sliding an arm around my shoulders.
“It is.”
“Jared and I would love to have you over for dinner this week,” Renee said. “I’ll text you, okay, Ellie?”
“Thank you, that sounds great.”
“We’re having a cookout in a couple of weeks,” Nate told us. “So don’t make any plans the first Saturday in September. It’s an end-of-summer party and it’s always a blast.”
“Sounds fun.” Patrick shook his hand, thanked Anton, and then everyone took their leave.
“Come on,” I said, tugging him toward the bedroom.
“Oh, wow, babe, this looks amazing.” He smiled when he saw that the bed was already made and I’d put some of our things on the dresser and nightstands.
“Wanna break it in?” I whispered.
“Uh-huh.” He scooped me up and carried me across the room. “What do you think? Ready to begin the biggest adventure of our lives?”
“So ready.” I wrapped my arms around his neck. “You?”
“Beyond ready.”
“It already feels like home,” I said softly.
“Anywhere we’re together, that’s home.” His eyes met mine.
“I love you, Patrick.”
“Ditto.” He kissed me and then we toppled over on the bed.
