“One of them was the man she was being sold to?”

“Aye. The son of the leader of an obscenely wealthy Moroccan conglomerate. The father, as far as we can tell, had nothing to do with what was going on. His only crime was overindulging his degenerate son.”

“They got what they deserved.” Harry pulled the toothpick holding two olives out of his drink and ate one of the olives.

Allison said, “I can’t believe Tabby’s moved in with Rebecca.”

“Takes all kinds.” John Stirling shook his head. “There’s something seriously off about that young woman.”

“Oscar thinks the two ladies have a pile of Von Zandt’s missing money at their disposal.” Harry ate his other olive. “That’s not the end of trouble in that quarter, I’m thinking.”

“Probably not. But this week we’re on holiday.” Stirling turned his head and smiled his gorgeous smile. Then he stood and moved toward the elegant brunette who’d just boarded. “And now that Tess is here, we can decide where to go on our cruise.”

Reid walked out of the confessional at St. Andrews, wondering how many times he had to confess before he’d believe himself forgiven. Could forgiveness really be given for something one didn’t regret doing, something one would do again, if given the choice? Considering the job he’d agreed to take, having left Walter Von Zandt to his horrible, but well-deserved fate would likely not be the last black stain Reid’s soul would suffer.

He took out his mobile, and rang his wife. “Sorry, my love, running late. Shall I pick up some takeaway?”
