One Sexy Mistake (Chase Brothers) Page 10

by Sarah Ballance

  “You’re really serious?”

He stood. “I brought you here, all the way to not be in Africa. Trust me, I’m serious.”

“Then yes. A thousand of them.”

“I only need one,” he said, slipping the ring on her finger and kissing her to the sound of cheers from the direction of the tent.

“I love you so much,” she said, making his knees weak and his heart light.

“I love you more,” he countered, echoing a long-standing argument he hoped neither of them would ever win.

On the heels of that, a baby’s cry belted out.

Grady’s niece, wearing a tiny Yoda-inspired Star Wars hat he’d gifted at his sister Estelle’s baby shower to block the sun.

His dad would have loved that.

Grady took Olivia’s hand—his fiancée’s hand—and when her fingers closed around his he realized he could get used to this romance stuff. Whatever it meant, as long as she was there, tolerating him.

When they reached the tent, Estelle was the first one to congratulate him. Sort of. She ran straight for Olivia, hugging her into the family. Before he could blink, she’d pulled her off into a group comprised entirely of estrogen, leaving Grady with the Chase men.

“Welcome to the club,” Crosby said, shaking his hand. Sawyer, Liam, and Ethan all followed suit, as did their father, Russell. It was a huge group, utterly chaotic by nature, and not something he ever expected after losing his own parents.

But they were family, all of them. Olivia, too.

Six months later they made it official, and they weren’t anywhere near a coffee plantation when they said “I do.”

  Acknowledgments

I can pretty much credit my editor, ERMAGERD TRACY MONTOYA, with the fact that anyone ever reads anything I write, but for this book, my simple thanks is the most epic understatement of all time. There is just NO FREAKING WAY this book would exist without her help. And by help, I mean endless patience. And brilliant ideas. And I have no idea how she didn’t throw this manuscript into a vat of fire at least a half-dozen times, but she clearly rocks like that. There are no words, woman. NONE. Thank you a thousand times over. And under. And also beside. (I’m not sure what that means, but it’s necessary. Y’all just don’t know.)

A big thanks to my street team. Even when these books come rapid-fire, you guys are tireless with your support. And a special shout out to my #MontoyaMob sister Naima Simone, who kept me sane and somewhat hidden when I was sure ERMAGERD TRACY MONTOYA would end me at any moment.

Mega thanks to OMG HEATHER HOWLAND, who gave me about a bazillion chances to give Grady a book. Or, maybe three. Which is more than I ever expected, so thank you for your patience. And tolerance. And for not chasing me with that lethal shard-laden broom.

For Kira Archer, my beloved #creepytwin, I decree you shall like jalapeños and spiders and never, ever leave me, because everything about this amazing writing gig is so much better when you’re on the other end of that epic daily email thread. (I’m still going on vacation, though. Hahaha!)

Always, always for my family. You guys put up with so much, and you make these accomplishments SO MUCH BIGGER than they have to be (ahem), but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I love you guys! (Even when I beg you to leave me alone for five more minutes. Really.)

And for my readers. The Chase Brothers. WOW, what a ride. Each and every one of you who picked up a book, left a review, sent a message, spread the word, or otherwise gave them love, THANK YOU. I’m blown away by your support and can’t possibly thank you all enough for the success of this series. I can’t wait to see where we go next!

  About the Author

Sarah and her husband of what he calls “many long, long years” live on the mid-Atlantic coast with their six young children, all of whom are perfectly adorable when they’re asleep. She never dreamed of becoming an author, but as a homeschooling mom, she often jokes she writes fiction because if she wants anyone to listen to her, she has to make them up. (As it turns out, her characters aren’t much better than the kids.) When not buried under piles of laundry, she may be found adrift in the Atlantic (preferably on a boat) or seeking that ever-elusive perfect writing spot where not even the kids can find her.

She loves creating unforgettable stories while putting her characters through an unkind amount of torture—a hobby that has nothing to do with living with six children. (Really.) Though she adores sexy contemporary romance, Sarah writes in many genres including historical and ghostly supernatural romance and romantic suspense. Her ever-growing roster of releases may be found on Entangled Publishing.
