“Pastor Niven recently made a trip to Haiti, and the Deep and Wide Church now fully sponsors its mission there. He speaks of building a second orphanage in Central America. He lives much more simply than before, and his recent sermons have been about the need among God’s servants to guard against the sin of pride.”

Wyman chuckled. “I’ll bet that makes some of his fellow televangelists squirm! Robin, you might have affected a whole school of sharks by showing one shark the error of his ways.”

“That is very good, right?” Hua asked.

“Okay, so we’re running around fifty percent,” Robin said.

“Even that is a great thing,” Hua claimed. “Our greatest success was stopping Linda Billings.”

  “During which she died.”

Em pointed an arthritic finger at Robin. “Not your fault, Girlie.”

  “That’s your opinion.”

  “Mine too,” Tom said.

“And mine,” Cam and Hua said together. Looking up from the curtains she was making from sheets, Jai nodded agreement, and even Bennett made a whine that might have been affirmation. Only Mai didn’t chime in, and that was because she was in the kitchen, grinding something called mugwort that Jai promised would relieve Em’s hip pain.

Robin smiled. “You’re saying we need to keep doing what we’re doing?”

“As long as we can,” Em said.

“As long as we’re careful,” Tom cautioned.

“As long as we work together,” Hua agreed.

“And don’t blab to anybody,” Cam added.

Robin thought of Butler Mink. “As long as we always have a Plan B—and maybe a Plan C too.” Raising her energy drink in salute, she proposed, “I propose that Kidnap.org moves forward.”

Em raised her coffee cup. “Why stop now? We’re hot as a firecracker, and the Fourth of July isn’t that far off.”
