Infinity's Daughter Page 17

by Laszlo, Jeremy

I can feel my chest tightening, and my breathing is growing shallow. I can see Connor, my father, screaming, and Susan watching me in horror as I have collapsed, and am being taken somewhere. Everything is silent as I see the lights moving above me, and the faces passing slowly, in and out of my vision. My father, my mother, my daughter, my grandmother, my grandchildren. Thankfully, I do not see myself again. It was too much. Coming full circle to be reunited with myself at birth is a revulsion and a sick twist of fate and mystery that is too much even for the strongest of wills to endure. There is nothing sane in this world, nothing rational. I feel that everything I have done and have lived for has been in vain. My questions have not been answered, and they never will be. I will simply continue to live in this cycle, on and on, through eternity. We are all mad here.

I can feel someone grabbing my shoulders, lifting me onto what I presume is a stretcher. Before I go, I must make one final effort to tell them. To stop it before it all happens again. To change something. No one should live through this, not without a cause for greater good, a reasoning, something. But to live through this without anything but suffering and misery, watching death and destruction throughout the ages, only to wind up and find yourself, shrouded in your own personal demise, destined to carry on the painful and heartbreaking fate for eternity, there is no rationale for that.

I do what I can to turn my head towards Connor. If anyone can listen, it is he. He has begun his excursions now, I am sure of it. I open my mouth to let the words come out, but I cannot hear my own voice. In silence, but a silence I can only hope they can hear, I speak:

I am Alice. Alice Caitlyn Russo. I am the paradox. You have to save me from this fate.

  About the Author

I live in southern Louisiana with my wife and children, and work full time as a civilian employed by the federal government. I like to spend time with my family and am excited to announce our newest addition, my only son, recently born in February of 2014.

I spend as much time as I am able writing, but also enjoy downtime with the wife and kids, and am a bit of a movie buff as well. I thrive on sarcasm and nerdism and am currently addicted to The Big Bang Theory amongst other things.

Fiction has always been my reading genre of choice, though I am picky about who and what I read, and I refuse to read a series out of order. I have been known to devour entire sagas in mere days, emerging only when necessary for survival.

I love to hear from all of my readers, and hope to chat with you on my Facebook Fan page here:
