ALEXIS DRAZEN is the son of Victor and the younger brother of Andre. Alexis is trained in special forces tactics.
IRA GAINES is a mercenary hired by the Drazens to implement a revenge plan against David Palmer and Jack Bauer for their key involvement in a mission known as Operation Nightfall, which resulted in the accidental deaths of Victor Drazen’s wife and daughter. Gaines’s many associates include Kevin Carroll, Greg Penticoff, Rick Allen, Dan Mounts, and Eli Stram.
CHAIRMAN JAYCE FULBRIGHT (D-Calif.) is a U.S. congressional rep resentative from the state of California. He chairs the twelve-member House Special Subcommittee convened to investigate CTU and the events surrounding the attempt to assassinate David Palmer on the day of the California primary.
PAULINE P. DRISCOLL (D-Conn.) is a U.S. congressional representative from the state of Connecticut. She is one of the two most vocal members of the twelve-member House Special Subcommittee.
ROY SCHNEIDER (R-Tex.) is a U.S. congressional representative from the state of Texas. He is one of the two most vocal members of the twelve-member House Special Subcommittee.
LIEUTENANT COLONEL KEVIN JASON NEWTON is a judge advocate in the United States Army, attached to the office of General Donovan C. Henderson, Defense Intelligence Agency, director of the Special Unit for Counterintelligence Initiatives.
KEY EVENTS AT A GLANCE
2 Years Before Super Tuesday
Operation Nightfall. A Delta team led by Jack Bauer attempts to assassinate Balkan war criminal Victor Drazen. The attempt fails. The secret operation was authorized by Senator David Palmer.
Victor Drazen is secretly captured and imprisoned in the United States.
Super Tuesday
Midnight-1 A.M.: Jack Bauer and his wife, Teri, discover their daughter, Kim, is missing. Jack is called into CTU and learns of an assassination plot against presidential candidate David Palmer.
1 A.M.-8 A.M.: Richard Walsh gives Jack a CTU key card filled with encrypted information on the Palmer assassination plot. Teri is contacted by Alan York, who claims his daughter, Janet, is out with Kim.
Z A.M.—3 A.M.: Following Walsh’s instructions, Jack gives the key card to CTU programmer Jamey Farrell to decrypt. Kim realizes she’s been kidnapped.
3 A.M.—4 A.M.: Agent Tony Almeida reports Jack’s erratic behavior and CTU is placed on lockdown. Jack goes to an address revealed on the encrypted key card. Janet York is critically injured.
4 A.M.-5 A.M.: After a shootout, Jack follows his suspect to a police station, frees him from LAPD custody, and follows him to a corpse wrapped in plastic in the trunk of a car. Janet York is taken to a hospital. Kim is still missing.
5 A.M.—6 A.M.: Jack joins Teri at St. Mark’s Hospital, where Janet is undergoing surgery. Ira Gaines tells Jack that Kim is his hostage.
6 A.M.—7 A.M.: Under Gaines’s orders, Jack returns to CTU to retrieve the incriminating key card. Nina Myers confronts Jack and he must take her out of CTU at gunpoint. Teri Bauer is kidnapped.
7 A.M.—8 A.M.: Controlling Jack with threats of harm to his wife and daughter, Gaines orders him to smuggle a sniper rifle into a breakfast rally for Palmer and to deliver it to a waiting assassin. Jack thwarts the first assassination attempt, but the Secret Service mistakenly thinks Jack is the assassin.
8 A.M.—9 A.M.: Jack is taken into custody. Jamey Farrell is revealed to be a mole helping Ira Gaines. Teri and Kimberly are terrorized on Ira Gaines’s compound.
9 A.M.—10 A.M.: Alberta Green takes over Jack’s office. One of Jamey’s e-mails reveals a lead—the name Ted Cofell. With Nina Myers’s help, Jack evades the authorities and confronts Cofell.
10 A.M.—11 A.M.: Jack questions Cofell and sees a possible connection to Operation Nightfall. An associate appears and leads Jack to Gaines’s compound.
11 A.M.-18 NOON: Jack drives to Gaines’s compound and gains entry. Dr. erragamo, a former therapist of Palmer’s son, Keith, dies in a suspicious gas explosion. Palmer suspects his political adviser, Carl Webb, and a group of powerful financial backers are responsible for the death of Ferragamo, who had been threatening to reveal incriminating news about Keith.
12 NOON-1 P.M.: Jack rescues Teri and Kim and turns himself in to Alberta Green of CTU. Tony Almeida learns about a secret bank account in the name of Jamey’s mother. CTU” traces payments from an account in the Balkans.
1 P.M.-2 P.M.: CTU discovers another assassination plan against Palmer. New shooters have arrived in Los Angeles. Teri and Kim are examined at Grace Clinic.
2 P.M.—3 P.M.: With the help of Robert Ellis, Palmer and Jack review Operation Nightfall files and discover that Victor Drazen’s wife and daughter were killed in the attempt to assassinate Drazen. Teri and Kim are moved to a CTU safe house.
3 P.M.-4 P.M.: Palmer discovers that a member of his staff, Elizabeth Nash, has been lured into an affair with one of the shooters sent to kill him, Alexis Drazen, Victor Drazen’s youngest son. Jack asks Elizabeth to plant a tracking device on the man. The CTU safe house is assaulted and Teri and Kim flee. Palmer’s son, Keith, tape-records Palmer’s political adviser, Carl Webb, confessing to a blackmailing scheme linked to Dr. Ferragamo’s death.
4 P.M.—5 P.M.: Teri and Kim are separated. Teri becomes disoriented. Elizabeth fails to help CTU” dupe Alexis, but a call on Drazen’s cell phone gives Jack a new lead.
5 P.M.-6 P.M.: Jack’s lead is a meeting with a power company worker. An address in Saugus, California, is revealed. An assassin attacks Teri. Kim is trapped in a drug dealer’s house.
6 P.M.-7 P.M.: Jack and George Mason arrive at the Saugus address to find a deserted field and a power generator. Palmer makes a nationally televised speech revealing his son Keith’s involvement in the coverup of an accidental death seven years before and the blackmailing scheme by Palmer’s political adviser and key financial backers.
7 P.M.-8 P.M.: In the Saugus field, Jack stumbles upon a secret underground DOD prison. Victor Drazen is transported to the prison by helicopter. Jack interrogates Victor.
8 P.M.-9 P.M.: Victor Drazen’s eldest son, Andre, and a strike team attack the prison. Jack is captured and informs Victor that his younger son, Alexis, is in CTU custody. Victor contacts George Mason and attempts to negotiate a swap: Jack for Alexis. Palmer wins the Super Tuesday primary election.
9 P.M.—10 P.M.: Mason can’t make the deal with Victor because of red tape. Nina Myers contacts Palmer, who helps Jack by calling Mason and urging him to make the deal anyway. Alexis is swapped for Jack.
10 P.M.—11 P.M.: Victor has recaptured Kim and uses the threats against her to make Jack do his bidding. Palmer’s life is put in direct jeopardy a second time.
11 P.M.-12 MIDNIGHT: Jack uncovers the identity of another mole in CTU and suffers a tragic personal loss.
