“I love you, Danny,” he whispered into my ear.
“You just yelled it into a microphone… I can’t believe you did that,” I cringed. “I should be mad… But I’m not. I love you too, Hollywood. I’m sorry, I’m an idiot.”
“Can I have this dance?” he asked as Hildy started playing Whitney’s, I Will Always Love You, as if it were on cue.
“I think I’ve been waiting all night for you to ask me that,” I whispered breathily. My face was free of the mask I had worn all night, happiness was written across my face for all to see.
He took me in his arms, and I wrapped mine around his neck, and we swayed to the music. Other people joined us on the dance floor, but for me, three was only Blake Hudson and those damn brown eyes, and I knew at that moment, that he was right. I deserved a happy ending. I had built up my walls to protect myself, and they were too high. But Blake had found a way through them, and I could feel them slowly coming down since the day I met him. No more, ‘what ifs’ and ‘could be’s, there was only us, and now and hope… I hoped for my own happy ending.
We danced for the rest of the night, never more than a few feet apart. Sandra and Mrs. Markle both told us how happy they were for us, and it looks like Blake is going to be staying there, at least in theory for a while. But, I’m sure he’ll be spending most of his nights with me, at least that’s my plan.
Evan and Everett walked up to us and gave us both hugs. Crystal stood behind them, a look of annoyance on her face.
“I’m glad the two of you figured it out, finally,” Everett looked as if he had won the lottery. “I thought that we might have to sit you both down before we left on our honeymoon. I love it when a plan comes together.”
“What are you two talking about?” I asked slowly.
“I had nothing to do with this, and I’m pissed about it,” Crystal chimed in. “I can’t believe you didn’t tell me, Everett.”
“Okay, spill it baby brother. What are you talking about?” Blake said seriously.
“We thought you two were perfect for each other and that’s why we did this,” Evan said.
“Get married? That’s fucking insane,” I laughed at how ridiculous it sounded.
“No, not that,” Everett quipped. “You two and planning the wedding. We thought it would be perfect for the two of you to get to know each other and we were positive you both were each other’s perfect match.”
“You mean…” I started putting two and two together.
“Yeah… There weren’t any reports that we had to do at work. We just wanted you two to meet and spend enough time together for this to… maybe… happen.” Evan smirked, glancing over at Blake to see if he was annoyed.
“I was sure of it,” Everett said obnoxiously and a little slurred. “As soon as I met Blake, I knew that Danny would be perfect for him.”
“And I’ve always thought Blake would be perfect for Danny, so we…” Evan shrugged.
“You didn’t,” Blake hung his head.
“They did,” Crystal chimed in.
“And if we didn’t fall in love? What then?” I asked, curious as to the answer.
“Well, we had free labor for the wedding?” Everett laughed.
“You two are lucky,” Blake hissed. “Now go away. I want to dance and be alone with my man.”
And we did. We danced all Halloween night. It was definitely a Halloween I would always remember as the day I received the greatest trick or treat of all.
Hollywood- Blake Hudson. Sometimes we do get that happy ending we have always longed for.
