“Yeah. Lots of junk. Wasn’t it along here somewhere?”

Link paused between two buildings. His PF stood between them in the alley.

“Yeah. The shop was here. If I hadn’t stopped and gone in, I’d never have met Sara again.” He squeezed her hand.

“Here?” Brad said. “The shop wasn’t here. It’s nothing but an alley. Must have been farther along.”

Sara stood on tiptoe and kissed Link’s cheek. “He doesn’t believe you.”

“Love has scrambled your brains,” Brad said. “I hope it’s not contagious.” He headed off down the street, “I’ll see you tomorrow,” he called over his shoulder.

“He’s wrong,” Sara said. Link nodded. He knew this was the spot where The Fantasy Shoppe had stood. The shop where he’d bought the card that led him back to Sara.

After they settled Link Jr. in the PF’s rear compartment they snuggled close, just as they’d done the night he and Sara had signed their contract to live together and raise a family. He’d told her all about the shop, how he’d gotten the card. How the shop was gone. In return, she’d told him the shop had been here the day she’d gone into The Palace after him. She’d only gotten a glimpse of it, but there was definitely a one-story structure tucked into the now-empty space.

They’d made love right here in his PF and come back twice more to find it still just an alley, as it was tonight. Each time they’d sealed the empty space with a little love, sealed the idea they’d been brought to one another through some force or power they couldn’t explain, at the same time they’d sealed a pact with their love.

Link turned to Sara. He parted her thighs. “I see Venus is rising.”
