‘You do?’ Her own heart stopped. Seductive, playful Dan stole her breath. Especially when paired with his physical touch, which she’d missed every bit as much.
He nodded. Slow. Confident. Carnal. ‘I took them while you slept, when you were lost in thought or talking to someone else. Any chance I had.’ His lips latched onto her earlobe, tugging, the tingles reverberating down to her core. ‘You didn’t notice, Captain?’
She shook her spinning head, eyelids heavy. ‘I thought you preferred landscapes?’ Slurred speech. Scattering thoughts.
He shrugged, his warm hands slipping inside her robe. ‘You’re the best view there is.’ He pushed one thigh between hers, his mouth finding hers once more.
And he kissed her again.
Epilogue
The shower door opened with a rattle, startling Eden from her Dan-filled fantasies. She spun away from the warm spray, her hand clutching her wildly thumping chest. Not that she feared a murderer. Or even that she was particularly surprised to see a naked Dan, hard and eager, stepping into the shower to join her. It had, after all, become one of their routines—shower sex. Along with floor sex, kitchen-bench sex, car sex. Any sex they could get away with.
Dan joined her under the spray, his hands reaching for her waist to tug her into the grind and roll of his hips. ‘I checked. They’re asleep.’ His mouth found that delicate spot behind her ear and her internal muscles clenched as her toes tingled.
‘Really?’ She wanted him. Always. But her auntie duties demanded she not scar Tom and Jane’s daughters through raunchy shower antics. And no matter how quiet she tried to be, she couldn’t help the cries Dan pulled from her at the height of passion. He called her his Wailer.
Dan’s hand slipped between her legs, her own moisture adding to the rivulets of water trailing her thighs to ease his access. Her head hit the tiles as the first groan passed her lips.
‘Yes. And I’ve locked the door. But you’ll have to keep it down, Captain. You’re not on the parade ground now.’
She sighed. She loved it when he used her rank, especially while doing decidedly erotic things to her. His fingers slid from her and he pushed her backwards until her buttocks hit the cool porcelain. She gasped. Her gaze following him down as he knelt before her and lifted one thigh over his shoulder.
Her fingers coiled into his wet hair, her eyelids heavy. But she kept them open. Dan took his time. His flagrant stare drinking in her breasts, before dipping over the flat of her belly to the glistening flesh between her thighs.
He loved to look at her, his renowned patience and legendary control seemingly endless until his eyes had glutted their fill. Only then would he touch her. When he was ready. No matter how much she begged.
Eden thrust her hips forward and Dan smiled up at her. Sexy reprimand darkened his eyes as he tutted. Eden clawed at his shoulder. She was always eager. Couldn’t help herself. But with the added incentive that they could, at any moment be interrupted, either by one of the twins, or by a phone call from Tom to say her new niece had arrived safely, Eden’s impatience intensified.
‘Dan …’
‘Shh. You have to be quiet.’ His thumbs parted her folds and he leaned in, blowing warm breath across her desperate sex.
‘You know I can’t.’
‘Well this is good practice for you then.’ He inched closer until his nose grazed her pubic hair, his lips hovering just out of reach. ‘For when we have our own babies.’
Before she could answer, he lowered his mouth to her, his dazzling gaze capturing her reactions to both his words and the pleasure his mouth bestowed.
He smiled, his mouth still working her. But she was too preoccupied for any rebuke. And it wasn’t a new topic of conversation. In the six months they’d lived together, they’d talked about the family they’d have many times. Only today, a day when they’d played surrogate families with the twins while Tom took Jane to the maternity hospital, the words carried more strength. More immediacy.
Dan tore his mouth from her, his thumb replacing his incredibly talented tongue. ‘C’mon, Wailer. Let’s hear you.’ He stood, hooking Eden’s legs around his waist as he kissed her. She slipped her eagerly trembling hand between them, slotting him inside her and gasping as she stretched to accommodate his length.
Dan’s hot mouth found her nipple as he started to rock into her. The strong pulls of suction beat relentlessly at her clit, the tempo matching the increasingly vigorous slams of his hips.
Eden released her grip on his shoulders, safe in the knowledge he’d hold her up, and braced her hands on the tiled cubicle walls. He watched her. His wildly darting gaze capturing every view, every angle. As the crescendo built inside her and Dan’s thrusts picked up tempo, he focused on her face.
Her own stare fused with his, holding, clamouring, swimming.
‘Eden. I love you.’ His words, gruff and broken, emerged just before his ragged growl. His body tensed and slammed into hers, his rhythm shot to pieces as he succumbed to the rapture of his orgasm.
She managed to return the endearment just before her eyes slammed closed and her own climax left her living up to her aptly accurate nickname.
Later, replete and languid, they snuggled under the duvet wearing a pair of Dan’s soft cotton pyjamas—Eden the top and Dan the bottoms. This was Eden’s favourite time of day. The moments before sleep claimed them had become a lull in the storm of their busy lives. Not that they were half as busy as they’d once been.
‘Do you regret not going back to the UN?’ Dan’s fingers traced lazy circles on her buttock, which peeked from the hem of his shirt.
She’d surprised herself with how much she enjoyed her new position as Army Recruitment Officer—seeing new recruits at the beginning of their careers, all youthful and enthusiastic, a real privilege.
Eden shifted, lifting her head from his bare chest to press her mouth to his before settling back in her comfortable sleep position. ‘No. Do you regret only working one job instead of three?’
Dan had dropped half his A&E shifts and had drastically reduced his volunteer commitments, insisting he could return to them when their children had left home and he was semi-retired. It made her smile. A—they didn’t have any children … yet, and B—he’d never be able to wait that long, the do-good gene still strong. But she wouldn’t have him any other way. Wouldn’t love him as much if he were any other way but himself.
A text alert sounded, Dan automatically reaching for his phone on the nightstand, doctor habits hard to shake. But it was Eden’s phone.
‘It’s Tom. She’s arrived. I’m an auntie again.’ She fired off a quick text congratulating her brother and sister-in-law and agreeing to bring the twins to the hospital in the morning. Dan grinned at her, tugging her back into the warmth of his arms. ‘I wonder what they’ll name her?’ Eden slotted her thigh between Dan’s legs and returned her cheek to his chest.
His words rumbled beneath her face, deep, relaxed, a little sleepy. ‘I don’t know. But if we have a girl, I have a name all ready?’
Her neck protested as she shot her head up to stare at his smug face. ‘You do?’ She prodded his ribs, forcing his eyes open.
‘Sure.’ He shrugged, as if he’d thought about it a hundred times. He probably had.
‘What is it?’ She hated to douse his playful expression, but if she disliked his name choice for their unborn, unconceived child, he’d have to suck it up.
‘Ruby.’
She loved it, instantly, although she had no time to tell him as he rolled them, positioning himself above her with surprising wakefulness, leading her to wonder if he’d been faking his somnolence of moments ago. He kissed her, his mouth gliding back and forth, coaxing her to open and welcome the languid swipes of his tongue. He thickened against her thigh, his warm hands roving her body beneath his sleep shirt.
‘Wanna practice?’
Eden cupped his face, her palms tingling against his stubble and her eyes lost in his stare.
No w
ords were necessary.
She nodded.
