Kayne’s Fury: A Savage Saints MC Novel Page 4

by Lombard, J. Lynn

“Hey,” I say over my shoulder.

“Yeah?” Poison’s voice is quivering with fear.

“We can take all the time you need, but they won’t harm you. I will protect you and so will my club.”

Her grip relaxes slightly and she sniffles. After a few moments, she completely releases her bruising grip around my waist and dismounts the bike. Her legs are a little wobbly and I grip her tiny waist in my big scarred hands, steadying her. Heat races through my body from the contact and her eyes lock onto mine. She hasn’t removed her helmet yet, so I dismount and take it off for her, laying it down on the back seat of my bike. I gently cup her face and she closes her eyes on a sigh.

“Why are you being so nice to me?” Poison opens her eyes and stares into mine, searching for answers. “I’ve been nothing but a bitch to you everywhere we’ve been. You hate me and I’m supposed to hate you, but for some reason, I never really could.” Tears are falling down her cheeks and I wipe them away. “I’m tired of fighting it.”

“And I’ve been an asshole to you. We’ve had our difference of opinions.” She snorts at that. “But we need to put that aside and figure out who’s trying to hurt you. I need to know something though.”

“What?” Apprehension is written all over her face.

“Why did you come to me?”

She opens her mouth to answer, but Blayde cuts her off. “Prez, we need you inside, now.” The demand in his voice is unmistakable.

“OK, I’ll be there in a minute,” I shout back.

“It can’t wait. Unless you want Cougar out here causing all kinds of hell on you.”

I exhale a deep sigh and pinch the bridge of my nose. Cougar has been causing trouble for as long as I can remember and she lives up to her name. Unfortunately, she has a hard time keeping her pants on and goes after any young man who shows her even the slightest attention. She’s been a pain in my ass for so long, I don’t know what to do with her anymore.

“Alright, we’re coming,” I answer back. I grip Poison’s hand in my own, trying to ignore the heat sizzling from the contact and lead her up to the steps onto the wrap-around porch. My footsteps are heavy with each stride, my muscles are tight and I’m anxious to open the door.

Small fingers ghost up my spine making me shiver and lust floods through my veins when I realize Poison is tracing the pattern of my cut. She’d done it earlier and for some reason, it relaxes me. I release a deep breath and open the front door. Music drifts towards us, the heavy beat of Pantera’s song, Walk, fills my ears and steadies my racing heart.

We stroll through the mudroom and into the living room. A black leather couch is against one wall with my logo proudly displayed above it and a black coffee table in front of it, occupied by Rooster, Knuckles and Rebel. Two leather recliners are on each side of the couch occupied by two other members, Tatt and Butch. Each of them has a patch whore dancing in front of them, moving their bodies to the beat of the music. One spots me enter the room and her brown eyes are dancing over my body as she moves her hips and licks her blood red lips. Bile climbs its way up my throat and I do my best to tamp it down.

When I started this club the patch whores gravitated towards us, looking for a quick fuck and a place to sleep. In the beginning, it was fun to have faceless sex with some of them, but as time went on, there was something missing and I stopped. I could have any one of these women with the snap of my finger, but since meeting the woman who’s now clutching onto my cut with a death grip, hiding behind me, I don’t have the desire too anymore.

I move past the living room and into the kitchen. Rooster, Knuckles, Rebel, Tatt and Butch follow, leaving the patch whores angry and grumbling. Marble countertops and stainless steel appliances fill the empty spaces. More members are out here, but the beat of the music isn’t as loud and they’re talking among themselves. They spot me entering the room and conversations die down while they wait for my word.

“Where is she?” I don’t need to say who because they all know.

“Upstairs in her room, finally. Prez, something has to be done. She pounced on the Prospect as soon as he walked in the front door. Not to mention she was trying to pick a fight with the girls.” Talon the Chaplin, explains.

  “Which one?” I ask.

“Holly,” Stryker growls, crossing his arms over his muscled chest.

“Fuck.” I run a hand down my face. “Where’s Holly now?”

“Out back with Maddox and the Prospect,” Stryker responds. He’s watching out the window into the dark night, trying to see her. Holly isn’t a patch whore. She has a beautiful soul that will give you the shirt off your back and a kind word to go with it. She ended up here a couple of years ago trying to escape an abusive asshole and we took her in and protected her. I view her as a little sister I’ve never had, and Cougar hates her. She hates the attention we give Holly. I know Stryker likes her and has been trying to win her over for a couple of months now, but she keeps blowing him off. After the past she’s had, I don’t blame her. She has trust issues and Stryker is a brooding asshole who doesn’t like to talk.

“I’ll deal with Cougar later, right now I need all members in the Chapel. We have business to discuss. Stryker, go and get Maddox, but leave the Prospect with Holly.” Stryker leaves without saying a word.

“What’s going on Prez? All we got was a cryptic message from Blayde to meet here A.S.A.P.” Talon asks. No one has seen Poison hiding behind me yet, except the guys who followed us.

“There was a hit on The Deadly Sins clubhouse tonight,” I answer. Shouts and confusion fill the kitchen and I hold my hands up, trying to quiet them down. “Guys shut up.” I holler. They all fall silent and watch me. “There was one survivor that we know of. Another is missing and we’re trying to locate her.” Poison’s breath hitches behind me and I step to the side. “Boys, I believe you all know Poison. She’s the only survivor in the house.”

The kitchen is quiet and no one says a word as their eyes swing to Poison, mouths hanging open in shock. She offers them a sad smile and nods her head. Her hazel eyes move to me and she’s on the verge of another breakdown.

“I’m going to take her to my room.” I wrap my arm around Poison’s shoulders and look at Tatt. “Find Duke and have him guard my door while we’re in The Chapel. No one and I mean no one is to enter my room unless it’s me or Blayde. Make sure you relay that to him.”

  “On it Prez,” Tatt answers.

I lead Poison past the other members, getting her out of there quickly. They don’t need to see her have another breakdown and know her weakness. Not that they’ll use it against her, but I’d rather protect her from it. We quietly walk up the stairs, Poison tucked against my side. She splays her fingers against my chest and it makes my heart skip a beat. Her body is trembling again and we hurry down the hallway. There are several doors on each side shut tight, marking a club members’ room. Once we reach the end of the hallway, I pull out a key from my jeans pocket and insert it into the lock. The door swings open and we walk inside. I flip on a light, creating a soft glow in the room. A king-size bed covered with a black comforter and pillows takes up one wall, with a nightstand on each side. A deep oak armoire takes up another wall and two doors are on each side.

I release Poison and walk to the first door. “There’s a full bathroom in here if you need it.” I open the door and flip on the light, inconspicuously searching for an intruder. I open the closet door and do the same. “The closet in here, as you can see.”

I turn around after searching the closet and watch Poison. She’s standing in the middle of the room, her arms are wrapped tight around her small body and she looks so lost and scared. I stride over to her and pull her against me, kissing her forehead, reveling in her warmth. Her arms relax and find their way around my waist, her head nestled against my chest, making my heart beat hard and desire to flood my body.

“You still didn’t answer my question from earlier.” I cup her face in my palms and stare into her eyes. “
Why did you come to me?”

“I…” she trails off and tries to hide her face, but I’m not letting her. “You’re the first person I thought of that could help. I know we're supposed to hate each other, but I never could hate you no matter how hard I tried or how much my father wanted me too.” A tear escapes and trails down her cheek and over the back of my hand. “I played my part to the best of my ability, Kayne.”

My name on her lips breaks my resolve. I gather her into my arms and press my lips against hers. She hesitates for a moment before opening her mouth, allowing me access. I slip my tongue inside her hot, wet mouth and my dick stirs. Pulling her closer to me, I kiss her with everything I have. Our tongues battle back and forth, seeking and searching. Poison runs her hands through my hair and tugs, causing a groan to escape my throat. She breaks the kiss, resting her forehead against mine, breathing hard.

“What are we doing?” She questions.

“What feels right. I’ve wanted you for so long, I don’t know when the lines became blurred.” I answer.

“Me either, but I can’t.” She pulls away from me and sits on the edge of the bed, ducking her head. “Kayne, I need to tell you something.”

A knock on the door startles her and I release a deep sigh. “Hold that thought.” I stroll over to the door and open it, coming face to face with Blayde.

“We’re ready.” His voice betrays the concern he has for Poison as he looks past me at her. “Is she going to be OK?”

“I think so. Any word on Siren?”

  “Not yet.”

“OK, I’ll be down in a minute.” I shut the door on Blayde before he can say anything else.

Turning toward Poison, she’s watching me with sadness in her eyes. I walk over and sit next to her on the bed, settling my arm around her shoulders. She leans into me and splays her fingers over my cut. “I need to get the meeting going. I’ll be back soon. Don’t leave this room and don’t open that door for anyone but me or Blayde.”

“OK.” She looks up at me and cups the side of my face, lust, and desire for this woman thrums through my body. Maybe if I fuck her, I’ll get her out of my system. I don’t see how that’s possible though it’ll be fun trying. “Be careful.”

Those two words coming from her lips causes my heart to beat hard against my chest. No one has ever looked after me or cared if I was hurt, except for my club. Even my own family never gave a shit about what happened to me, but Poison does. I don’t know why and right now, I don’t care. I cover her hand caressing my face with my own and her breath hitches. She can feel what I feel and I’ll be damned if I will lose this.

“I’ll be back.” I place my lips softly against hers and kiss her. She returns the embrace, but I pull away before it goes any further. I know if I get another taste of her sweetness, I’ll never make it down to the meeting.

Standing up from the bed, Poison watches me with guarded but caring eyes. I leave the room quickly and almost run into Blayde waiting for me. Concern is etched all over his face.

  “All good?” he asks.

“So far. But I don’t know what I’m going to do with her.” I nod my head and we walk down the hallway away from listening ears. “She’s under my skin and I don’t know what to do.”

“Fuck her and get it out of your system.”

“I’ve thought about that, but I don’t know if I can.”

“Why not? It’d be just like old times, nameless, faceless sex. You’ve done it before, you can do it again.”

“Because she isn’t like the others. She isn’t a patch whore. There’s something between us I’ve never experienced before. Fuck, I sound like a teenage girl. This is why I hate relationships.” I grumble and Blayde laughs. “Fuck you, man. Just wait, it’ll happen to you.”

Blayde stops laughing and sucks in a deep breath that catches my attention. “Who, you dirty motherfucker? You’ve been holding out on me.”

“No one. I don’t know what the fuck you’re talking about.” Blayde won’t look me in the eyes. That’s OK, I’ll figure it out soon. We reach the bottom of the stairs, turn left through the living room and kitchen and walk into The Chapel. Every eye lands on us when we walk in and Blayde shuts the door. I take a seat at the head of the massive oak table that has our logo etched into it.

Stryker clears his throat and stands up. “Prez, we found something.”

“What is it?” I swallow hard. By the expression in his eyes, it isn’t anything good.

“We think we know who put the hit out,” Stryker says, maintaining eye contact.

  “Who?”

  “The Black Destroyers.”

My heart stops beating for a moment and my ears ring. The Black Destroyers have been after my club since we first started. There’s a lot of territorial history and bad blood between us.

“If this is true, Poison is in more danger than we thought and this wasn’t an accident. Deadly Sins destruction is a warning to us. Fuck!” I slam my fists on the table, making it rattle and the guys to jump. “This changes everything.”

  FIVE

  Poison

My lips are still tingling from Kayne’s kiss. A genuine smile graces my face. Kayne kissed me. He’s only brought those full lips near mine once and I’ve craved his taste since. Kayne’s leather and sandalwood scent is everywhere in this room and heat pools between my legs. My mind drifts back to the first time we met two years ago. I knew then he was unlike all the other bikers I’ve known. My father had it in his head that Kayne was the enemy and I played my part around everyone the best I could, but I knew he wasn’t my enemy.

  * * *

My father, Drex, is holding a meeting at the Deadly Sins Strip Club and asked me to be here. I have no idea why. I hate this place and he knows that. He rarely involves me in these meetings, he’s an asshole like that thinking these meetings are for men only. The room we’re in is off the back of the club, a huge table is in the center, a brown couch and a love seat is against the wall and a metal desk full of papers is against another wall. The beat of the music in the main room vibrates the walls occasionally.

I’m standing in the corner, refusing to sit on either piece of furniture, waiting for the rest of the guys to come in. The room reeks of cheap perfume, smoke, and men. Disgust fills my stomach, knowing the dancers are well acquainted with this room and these guys I call family. I know I shouldn’t be, but sometimes the strippers are worse than the patch whores.

Each club member makes their way in one or two at a time taking their respective seats. They’re laughing or talking about what stripper they’re going to fuck afterword. MadDog, my father’s V.P., spots me in the corner and offers me a sympathetic smile, his hazel eyes are worried with concern. I’ve always wondered why he puts up with my father’s shit. Drex is an asshole and MadDog is genuinely nice. He protects me and watches out for me the way a father should.

Once everyone is seated and the chatter has subsided, heavy footsteps draw my attention to the door and my heart stops beating for a moment when he walks in. This man with his six-foot-six frame, muscles and tattoo’s flexing with every movement under his cut and white t-shirt, messy blonde hair and a few days old stubble on his chiseled face, turns my mouth dry. I can’t help but squirm under his intense blue-eyed gaze. He’s watching me like he can see into my soul and it scares me.

“Kayne, glad you could make it.” My father says slapping the man on the back. His eyes turn hard and he breaks eye contact with me first. His deadly gaze is now on my father.

“I didn’t have much of a choice.” Kayne deep voice replies sending seductive chills down my spine.

“Well, now that you’re here, we can get down to business. Please, take a seat.” My father is trying to be nice, but I recognize that look. The manic, egotistical glare in his brown eyes. It’s taking everything he has to play nice and by the scowl Kayne is throwing him, he knows it.

“I’d rather stand. Please, get on with it.” He crosses his arms over his chest, his icy gaze meets mine
and softens a little. My father is watching us and walks over to me, resting his arm around my shoulders. I try to shrug him off but he won’t let go, tightening his grip a little harder.

“Kayne, this is my daughter Poison. She’ll be working closely with you on this deal. If you agree.” I can hear the coldness in his tone, but I can’t tear my eyes off Kayne. His face blanches and the man standing next to him, whispers something in his ear.

Kayne breaks eye contact and I release a stuttering breath I didn’t even realize I was holding. My father releases his grip around my shoulders and I school my features. He can’t know I find Kayne even the slightest bit of attractive or he’ll use it against me. He always has. When a guy shows interest in me, my masochistic father makes them either disappear or uses them to his advantage. It’s a vicious cycle I learned when I was younger and the guy I fell in love with at the time changed. Before I knew it, he was running shady deals for Drex and ended up in the bottom of Lake Michigan. I still think Drex had something to do with it, but he swears he didn’t.

“Let’s get down to business then, shall we?” Drex announces. All the Deadly Sins MC club members are seated at the huge oak table with our logo carved out in the middle. Bloody broken angel wings behind three black crossbones and Deadly Sins written below in Old English. My father takes a seat at the head of the table and makes eye contact with everyone. “It’s come to my attention that your club is having some issues with The Black Destroyers and you need help. I’m willing to offer you help.” He leans back in his chair and grips the back of his head. His easy-going stance doesn’t fool me. He’s up to something.

“Whatever I have with The Black Destroyers has nothing to do with you.” Kayne’s icy voice sends a shiver down my spine.
