Running Scared Page 24

“I meant what I said yesterday. The fact that you called me when you were in trouble, that you saw me as your only chance, means more to me than I can ever tell you. It meant you trusted me. And maybe, I hoped, that you still loved me.”

“Oh, Zak, I do love you. More than I ever did before.”

He lifted her left hand and slid the ring onto her ring finger. Then he captured her gaze with his. “Will you marry me, kitten? Will you have my children, grow old with me, and live a wonderful life with me?”

  “Yes, yes, yes.”

She stood on tiptoe and threw her arms around his neck, pulling his lips down to hers.

With their mouths still fused together, he lifted her in his arms and carried her into the bedroom. As he’d done the other night, he stripped back the covers, stood her on her feet, and undressed her as if she were a precious prize.

As each part of her body was revealed to him, he worshiped it with his mouth. His tongue traced circles at the hollow of her throat, and his lips closed over each pointed nipple. She clung to him as he caressed her hips, the curve of her buttocks, then probed at her already drenched sex.

  “I can’t wait,” she whispered.

“I think that’s supposed to be my line.”

“I don’t care. I want you. Right now.”

He tossed his clothes aside, then carried her down to the bed with him, nestling between her thighs.

“I love you,” he repeated, tracing her mouth with the tip of his tongue. “I will always love you.”

And as he slid home into her welcoming body, he showed her exactly how much.
