by Jan Redford

Jenna climbing near Canmore when she was five years old. My two kids had completely different reactions to growing up surrounded by climbers. Jenna adopted the lifestyle wholeheartedly and became a very strong climber, but Sam, who thought we were “hippies,” got into golf, then mixed martial arts. Like me as a teen, he had to be whatever his parents weren’t.

Doing a lead in El Potrero Chico, Mexico, in 2013 after not climbing much for several years. I went on this trip intending to rediscover the “rock warrior” within, and though I did manage to push myself well out of my comfort zone, I decided I’m more comfortable these days on my mountain bike.
