“I just can’t believe that I overlooked the sister. She was at my trial every day, and at the end she almost came undone when I got such a mild sentence – too mild, in her eyes. Can you ever forgive me, Abby?”
“Only if you forgive me,” she whispered. She raised her head and brushed his lips lightly.
“A long time ago,” he mumbled, while he nibbled tenderly on her ear lobe. “How do things continue with us now?”
“You don’t know? Then let me explain it to you: and they lived happily ever after until the end of their days. Does that tell you anything?”
“Yes, that you have a weakness for fairy tales, and that you are a hopeless romantic.” But his voice sounded gentle as he teased her.
Abby jutted her chin. “But that’s how it is, Jack. Let’s just see where life leads us. For now, we have made enough plans.” She smiled, satisfied that she had the last word. At least for now.
