After Sunset Page 23

  Mate.

She had to admit, she loved being Zahir’s woman. The man was passionate and caring. He loved her like no other and made sure she knew it. It was the best she could ever hope for. As for her dual self, she was learning more each day. Sometimes she became overwhelmed and panicked. But that was typically when Zahir would step in and talk her off the ledge.

What surprised Winny was that more people wanted to come to her shop, which was now flooded with duals. Some new customers and some old. The latter bunch including Rashad and his lovely sister Violet who grinned up at her one summer morning.

“Your aura is bright!” she said before giggling.

Her brother rolled his eyes before offering her a sheepish smile. “Good morning, Ms. Winny.”

She beamed back at the two werewolves.

  “Good morning.”

This was a whole new world for Winny, but one she was excited to learn about. She still

thought about her parents keeping it from her, but as Nova, and even Zahir said, they did what they thought was best. And the end result led her to this point, so she couldn’t be too upset.

Something that had changed was Akachi and Amara. She still hadn’t gotten the full story from either of them, but she was hoping Amara would tell her one day.

Her usually bright, optimistic friend would get this sorrowful expression on her face that would make Winny change the subject. And Akachi had pretty much disappeared after her kidnapping. Once he had seen that she was alive and safe with his own two eyes, he announced that he would be leaving for a few months. Zahir mentioned it had something to do with the seer, which was exactly what Winny had suspected.

“So, was that was the last customer?” Amara said as she came from the back of her shop. Winny smiled before grabbing her bag and powering off the computer. “It was.” She saw the black sports car pull up in her peripheral and she grinned at the man who stepped out of it.

She turned back to Amara who rolled her eyes. “Got a hot date?”

She slid her arm through Amara’s as they walked out the front door.

Winny pulled her arm away before locking it. “As a matter of fact, I do. Zahir is taking me away this weekend. Said he had something nice planned. I was going to ask if you could open and close the store for me this weekend.”

As Winny held out the keys to the bookstore, Amara’s mind flashed ahead to a couple days in the future. Zahir was going to propose during their weekend getaway.

She blinked, returning to the present and smiled at Winny brightly. “Sure. Besides, Rashad knows what he’s doing, and so does Vincent.”

“Make sure to let Rashad know he’s in charge. Vincent is just an overgrown child.” Amara laughed at that because it was true. The seer looked past Winny to Zahir who was leaned against the car.

The slight tip of the head he gave was as much of a greeting as the man had given her. It hurt, but she understood. Akachi was his brother after all.

“Well, don’t let me keep you. Have fun, and be safe!” she shouted.

Winny squealed before hugging her and skipping over to Zahir. He kissed her softly as a greeting and Amara watched as her friend melted into his embrace. As soon as they pulled off she waved at them before starting the short lonely journey home, not aware that something was following her.
